This resonated so much with me. I'm from a third world country and my upbringing is upper middle class but I'm currently failing in life. I'm 25 years old and I've never worked a job in my life but I'm never struggling because my parents are still financially supporting me. I think I should take a risk and move out to experience the challenges of life and realize how much of an effort it takes to just to be able to have a place to stay and food to eat. "To look at tomorrow and only see yesterday" it's a privilege to live in such comfort, but to stop at that then it'll become a torture. I am reminded how we as people need to get out of our comfort zones to grow because to stay inside is to be stagnant and rot. It's weird to smile but this hit me hard. Yeah I am so with you! I feel like the middle class upbringing puts you in a mindset that things should, and will, come easy. That having to put in large amounts of effort is failure- even though it’s progress!! And necessary. Keep chasing discomfort Simon, you will realise that you are an exceptional human that is capable of so much more than you know. “However strong you think you are, you are stronger”
You hit it right on the nail, im also a swedish citizen and i've always felt that the swedish safety net is (god forbid) too safe... i can basically just flop myself on the ground and start kicking and screaming like a baby and i will very likely be taken care of to safety... Practically this is a utopia.. but just as you said, on a psychological and spiritual level you just feel stuck.
@@keukelaar ah man if you lived in the US especially were im at in seattle and lived her for like 3 months you'd be begging for the safety net everywhere I go theres people dying on our streets from fetenyl and there isnt help more and more people living out of there cars and on top of that half the country doesnt have any healthcare its really bad man
finally someone with similar thoughts, people think iam crazy greedy capitalist pig when i even mention this is not sustainable by any way and iam tired to pay more and more every year for others people dumb decision meanwhile iam let to hit the bottom. I understand the need of safety net but in this iteration especially in Europe its absolute nonsense its there for irresponsible person meanwhile people who legitimately need help get nothing. for example if you lost your leg you will be fight for every euro and jumping thru many hoops to get some help because physical disability is constantly reduced and changed like if you lost your leg under knee is difference between getting almost nothing and something but you still lost your leg meanwhile you can comfortably live as single parent if you can play the game just remain unemployed and regulary pop new child. Iam all for give ALL helps what is needed even brand new house with pool and limo but the system should be strictly on case by case basis and if you are irresponsible moron then tough luck.
I'm now 19 years old. I grew up middle class, always had the necessities, decent grades in school, graduated high school, just completed first year at college. Everything seemed to be given to me, yes Ive worked lots of summer jobs and help where I can but there was never any challenge. Until I walked into the gym for the first time 7 months ago. My whole life changed. Ive now dedicated my life to evolving in every way that I can. I have become a better person, my confidence has tripled my happiness is steady and im only looking for my challenges. I am now also working on dirtbikes, I draw, I write stories and poems, ive played sports all my life and now am starting again because the more you do, the better you feel. You need to find yourself out of your comfort zone to improve yourself, you need to try new things, get out into the world before its too late. Thanks for reading this if you do.
