Nice solo! I totally dig that solo! Good looking guitar and I like the kitty cat. I was getting a kick out of watching him/her watch you while you played, eyes getting big and ears going back when you hit certain high notes...lol! I lost my orange tabby in February 2024. We adopted him from PETCO at 3 years old. He had been abandoned and abused. He was with us for nearly 17 years making him 20 when he died. He was my best friend and used to hang around while I was practicing. He liked to sniff and rub against all my guitars making them his...lol!
If Grant Green was alive today he’d probably be amazed to know the amount of influence he has been giving the guitar community and up incoming players such as yourself. I’ve been a big fan of Grant Green and I have his entire discography. But another player who is not well known was Boogaloo Joe Jones. If you can find his music, I think you’d be into him too. Great job! Thanks
Hey man ! Such an underrated musician and sadly even more underrated during his lifetime. I wish he was still there to see his influence too. Never heard about Boogaloo, I'm going to check him out right now! Thank you for your great comment !
Do you now have a pit in your stomach realizing you have copied Grand Green perfectly but the solo you played wasn't you? It was Grant Green. Now it's your turn to play something equally amazing. You really nailed it! Congratulations! You've got some great licks under your fingers. Now the work begins. I'm not trying to be a dick. I'm relating to you because I've done the same thing many times and felt like I'm just a copy cat.
Haha thanks man ! I think it's a great exercise to transcribe solos and try to replicate someone's style to internalize some licks, phrasing and stuff, but in the end you gotta mix it with your own style for sure! In the end, this video is a year old and today there's a lick or two that I'm still using and that I've modified a little but they'll be played between other phrases so they just become part of yourself. Pretty sure Grant Green did the same thing !
@@etiennechagnon I love Miss Ann's Tempo. I've transcribed most of it but hearing you I want to finish.. You sound great. I started writing down licks that I like in book and then running them in all 12 keys to internalize them. Keep up the great work
I've really been enjoying your videos over the last week. I find that jazz way of holding the pick so fascinating. It looks awkward but I guess it's great for string damping? Your playing is so clean and fluid - I love it!
Hey thanks a lot my friend !! Your comment is well appreciated 🙌🏻 ! What do you mean by the way of holding the pick? You mean the articulation of the picking hand and the pull-offs from the left hand or you really mean the way I'm holding the pick?
@@etiennechagnon Ha ha, sorry that my comment was a bit unclear. Yes, I meant the way that you (and lots of other jazz guitarists that I have seen) hold the pick, almost like it's tucked under your hand. I use a thumb pick anyway, so both the jazz and rock grips are a bit foreign to me, but I might try it this way some time just out of interest.
2 years ago when I decided to learn jazz guitar, I was walking down Grant street in San Francisco when I got to the corner of Grant and Green(a photo of the street sign is on the cover of Grant’s Street of Dreams album) so that was my clue for a direction and I bought that very album - very melodic, and then I started learning his guitar lines - still working on Jean De Fleur - great stuff
Excellent job complete with muted scat singing and Uber chilled cat . I’ve loved this solo for years ! Closest I got to it was his solo on ‘whap’ blues by brother jack mcduff . I love grant to death 😅 sending good vibes from Ireland
Hahaha love your comment ! Thanks a lot my friend 😊 If you ever want the transcription, I've put it in the description of the video! Greetings from Canada
@@etiennechagnon hey thanks a million for your warm reply bro . And for your offer of the transcription. I’ll give it a crack some day . I’m trying to get his solo from ‘I concentrate on you ‘ over the line , it’s some tricky sweeps in there above my pay grade 😅. I worked on quite a few of his soul / funk tunes which I must revisit . I treated myself to idle moments on vinyl recently and have been listening to that round midnight with a few beers 👌. Larry young s ‘into something’ on the way too . Fuck I bought Hank Mobley ‘workout ‘ also too recently. I must stop spending and get gigging . Ha ha ha .
You are a great player!! I'm starting to play again after a 40 year hiatus and I'm in the middle of learning the solo from Cool Blues (interestingly, back when I was studying none of my teachers ever had me listen to Grant Green). When I get more of my chops back I'm going to tackle your transcription of this tune.

Boogalo is great!
hey buddy if you don't mind , can you provide the long list of guitarists like Boogaloo Joe Jones. I am impressed by his songs and playing.
Bro, where's the record contract!!!
I thought that this was great! Your cat however was less impressed.
