I'm curious if Valentinians and/or other Gnostics had theurgy like the Hermetics like Iamblicus spoke about. Also, I wonder if Valentinius got the idea of demons from Persia with the Jinn (Djinn?) being made from air or fire.
Sometimes I wonder who it was that explained gnosticism to Joseph Smith, Jr. He incorporated an uncanny amount of Valentinian concepts into his church.
A reply in depth would require more space than is easily achieved in a yt comment, so I'll make touchpoints. 1)OT creator-figure growing and developing away from rage and jealousy toward love and light 2)Feminine wisdom figure last in creation, who sets the stage for all others to return to the fullness 3)Legalistic hurdles one jumps on the way to exhaltation 4)"The glory of God is intelligence, or in other words, light and truth." 5)Celestial Anthropos, descending to incarnate, initiating rational logos while communing with immaterial nous. There are more, but those are the low-hanging fruit on the tree of my mind this morning. :)
Of course there's his introduction of "telestial," to describe the perfected earth, an obvious nod to the telesterion, pointing back toward pre-Valentinian philosophies. There's significantly more than a pinch of the Hermetic in the doctrine, something most members don't seem to recognize. 🤷
never get tired of hearing Dr Sledge go on about Gnosticism. Always come away feeling like I gained new insights.
Really incredible talk! Many thanks to Dr. Sledge, especially for making his contribution to the AJC dad jokes pantheon.
omg what a crossover!! love dr sledge’s videos on his channel and was pleasantly surprised to see this in my subscriptions ❤
Really amazing presentation. Great insight and that conveyed with so much clarity. Thank you!

His association with these people completely delegitimizes Sledge as a scholar
