These little units are great for cooking a single quick meal. But I agree with you, they really dropped the ball with not having removable plates and a damn power switch.
MrCougar214 It amazes me that they made it like that in the 2000s??? What cooking apparatus doesn't have an on/off button and a temperature gage for heating something??? It's brand marketing is that it cooks in 5 mins but it doesn't even have an in-built timer. The guy had to use his microwave timer. It seems like cheap, branded Chinese electronics from Aliexpress being sold to the Western market for $40 when it should be $7.99! I own a similar device called the Ready-Set-Go Express. It’s amazing for cooking frozen food like pizza rolls and egg rolls. Same or better results than the oven without over heating the house on a hot summer day. I LOVE it and best of all, I got it for free as a thank you for volunteering a ton of hours to a church rummage sale. The organizer saw me eyeing it, lol.
I have this and use it everyday. Almost 3 yrs now. As I am only cooking for myself, I’ll zap a few vegetables in the microwave, drop in some meat like Sausages, chops, rissoles, chicken, steak. And in no time at all I have dinner. Love an omelette for breakfast so I have various combinations I can do. Need a snack, folded slice of bread with cheese and ham, a toasted sandwich. It’s a great item. However, when you clean it or have an overflow from the channel, liquid sits in the base until you go to stand it up to store and you end up with a mess. The paint is flaking and the clip has broken, but when you cook for 1, it’s so much easier to clean up that several different pots and pans and the various other pieces needed to cook on the stove top.

Also beef being cooked rare to well done is a matter of taste. You only need to cook the outside for it to be safe to eat so some people might be fine with the cook time being even less before letting it rest.
It's not - steak is fine cooked rare, burgers are not. Edit - burgers that are still a bit pink inside are OK to eat, but ONLY if their internal temp has reached 160 degrees Farhenheit. That still doesn't count as 'rare' though.
I'm a truck driver, got one for cooking on the truck. I love mine, easy clean up and cooks most things really well. The issue with the exploding is this, when you cook scrambled eggs they expand when they expand steam can no longer escape, just leave it unlatched, no exploding machine
The first couple reviews I saw I did wonder about the length, not for me but just because across most TH-cam demographics videos longer than maybe 11-12 minutes tend to have attention fall off. I don’t see that happening with your videos. Some channels have no problem breaking those rules. I found one this weekend at a charity shop for $5 thinking it would be fun for the kids. There isn't a recipe booklet but the kids are eager to give it a go - especially the lava cake idea. As for burgers, make them thinner to provide more even temp and thorough cooking. Always use a thermometer when cooking meat - and please wash your hands after handling raw meat *shudder* Thanks for a fun review!
thank you for this great review...one thing I think would be helpful is if you deeply thumbprint your hamburgers before you put them in the pan. I work at a place that has won "Best Hamburger in Dayton" for several years and that is how we grill ours...hand patted but with at DEEP Thumbprint in the center so that your hamburger will cook evenly....
I have one and use it often ... love it. I love ham and cheese omlets in it. Cake #2 you placed the batter in the top and flipped it immediately ... leaving only a small amount of batter to cook by itself while the rest of it was cooking in the bottom. Cake #3 had no extra moisture from a candy bar and cooked faster. Hamburger patties should be as flat as possible when you put them in and flip half way through.
I know this is a old video. It’s now March 2022. But I’m so glad I found this video. I have been thinking about buying this item but not sure. I am 65 and live alone. Because of all the meds I’m on I use a microwave and convection toaster oven. But you can only do so much in these. I think you have showed me that this item will be a good investment for me anyway. Once I get one (which may take a couple of months) I will try it out and let you know how it works for me. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, I bought one and wasn't really sure if it was some thing I wanted to keep and the answer is no. I take reviews serious and appreciate other peoples opinions.

We got ours as a gift. It takes all the guesswork out of cooking eggs. If you're making a loaded omelet with lots of meat, etc., 2.5 min per side is about right. But if all you add is cream and maybe a little cheese, 2 minutes is plenty. I've been using it to make eggs for my kids' breakfast every morning. Much healthier than sugary cereal.
I use mine for eggs ! I just crack the eggs drop them in ! So good and you can crack 4 eggs and it fits ! No butter no oil . It's worth it if you like eggs .
I want a thorough review, and if it takes 15, 20, 25 minutes, so be it. I don't like these other channels who do half-assed 5 minute reviews that don't answer my questions. Keep doing what you're doing, James.
Thank you. My 'cooker' has been left standing among other items I no longer used, until yesterday when I got the urge again. I was pleased to see your 'flipping' technique as the 'Official' video does not suggest this, they also do not recommend 'locking' the lid. Just a quick word regarding the flip, I suggest starting the cooking upside-down so it will be the correct way when flipped
I enjoy your reviews as you are fair and come from an unbiased viewpoint, and will state if an item is not any good. I also have this item and I cook all sorts in it from sausages, fried eggs, burgers fish etc. and I even warm up pies in it. I find it very versatile, but I agree it is annoying not having a temperature control or off/on switch, but here in the UK we have on/off controls on our wall sockets so we do not have to unplug everytine. I would also like to see a timer on it as well.
Just picked one up for $2 at the local thrift store. Looked like it had been used once. Came on here to see a real world use and review, thanks for the video.
I was watching this tutorial and it said, do not lock the latch when making an omelet, to let the steam escape. Maybe that's why yours didn't come out fluffy.
Thank you for your reviews. I thoroughly enjoy them. I like most will probably wait until the manufacturers design one that has removable grids that can be cleaned in the dishwasher, an on/off switch. Again thank you.
Maximum effort, lol. For, you next test for this, can you try: -panini sandwhich or ham and cheese -pizza rolls or homemade pizza pocket -meatballs -veggies -Egg McMuffin sandwich homemade I have no intentions of buying it but I enjoy you reviewing it with different food. You made me hungry when I saw that chocolate 🍰 and chicken 🐔.
Thanks so much. I have had great success with this. widower's can't cook as well as wives can. love omelets Biscuits & gravy. it's perfect for the culinary challenged.
Sticky cake happened when you turned it over before it had a chance to cook on the 1st side. All the batter fell to the bottom and left a little bit on the grill to burn. Same thing happens with the waffle irons that you flip.
I have one and I love it, if you make your hamburgers a little thinner it works great, and it's excellent for cornbread, and fish fillets, I use mine daily, but it is a pain to clean.... And whatever I'm cooking it usually needs to be flipped... I made thin breakfast porkchops in it, they were excellent... Steak, etc. It's perfect for one person...
I’ve just bought one for my mum We read the instructions ,it said do not close latch down Or flip it over We’re a bit disappointed not many recipes. Only about 4
I remember the lady on the cover of that booklet you showed. She demoed another item similar to this many years ago. The product had two wells. I forget the name though. But she did the cake and the candy bar thing there, too.
Very impressive and methodical. I"m looking for a small cooking device but this one lacks any obvious features like on/off switch, auto shut off, temperature setting?
Ok as a bachelor apartment or small camper appliance. Would like to see a model twice as wide with removable plates for cleaning, possibly for different uses.
I have a wonderful ceramic Belgium waffle maker that flips, however it doesn't have removable plates. I wash and then rinse the plates with sprayed on water while keeping the center dry only. Then I let all the water drain out. I think only wiping them clean is gross. I figured if the waffle maker broke after I washed it, it wasn't worth keeping. Thankfully, it still works fine.
This was 15 minutes of packed info! You have a very organized style in your review of this item and that is very helpful. I picked up one of these things at Goodwill today but it has no instructions so I'm using your review to give me some idea of what I can use this for and how to go about using it. I am ASSUMING that all these trials were preceded by having the device ON and fully brought up to temperature? You mention about the cake starting out with it COLD so that might be the exception? (i.e. biscuits, etc. have it fully warmed up, green light ON?) As I experiment with this myself, I'm sure some of these answers will be forthcoming all on their own! No one can complain about the length of a video if it has useful things in it. This video you did on this appliance certainly meets that criteria. Thanks!
Thanks for this. Sometimes after work I don't want a complicated meal. I just want a few bites of something hot. I picked up several of Kathy Mitchels products that have turned out pretty good. My favorite is still the Pasta Boat.
You are giving a review but then not using the machine as per the instructions. It clearly states that the lid should NOT be fastened down when it is cooking. Not sure what impact this may have but you are potentially showing people how to use it incorrectly .
Most universities won't allow these types of cooking machines into the halls. They consider it a fire hazard. Residents can only rely on the microwave.
I bought this unit in South Africa a view days ago and I think it works perfectly, I went back to buy another two one for my Caravan and the other for my Father in law. Please remember this is a flip over unit so everything that you want to cook time must always be be halved for the best result to cook nice and evenly. Omelette 2min a side doesn't matter what is added the lesser time cooked per side the softer the omelette. This unit is made to be flipped over and that's the key. If the burgers was flipped over say after 2.5min per side the result wood have been much better and the same with the chicken. With the George Foreman unit both sides press down on the meat etc that's why the 5 min chef needs to be flipped over for the same result, in my view an excellent product works great. O yes the unit stays on but its got a built in regulator switch that regulates the temperature that's why when in use the green light switches on and of.
From Amazon review: After suffering a couple “egg explosions”, I finally figured out how to use this pan. Before turning the egg over, I open the lid to vent the steam build-up, turn the unit over carefully and leave the pan unlatched as the egg expands during cooking. By locking the pan, the pressure builds up and blows the lid and spits egg everywhere. I have not had a single problem since I’ve been using the pan this way. It is difficult to clean, but I pour water in the well, replug it and close the lid. The water will boil very quickly and after it cools a bit, I empty the pan and wipe it clean. The hot water will loosen any residue from cooking. I hope this helps. Maybe next model will have tiny vent holes to allow steam to escape.
I use it a lot for breakfast. The omelets are good. Chicken made a mess but watching you I'll give that another try. Over all I think it a good product.
I think it's an excellent product, try jiffy corn bread mix, it makes 2 loafs, and jiffy cakes come out good also, the small boxes are perfect. I make omlets with egg, peppers, onions, and hash brown tater tots, comes out perfect, the other ppl may have gotten a bad one. my opinion is it's great
The effort was great on this one man! However the George foreman can’t be replicated no matter how people try but there’s a reason it didn’t make cakes or biscuits etc cause the crazy amount of years that was on the market they would have come out with that version.
Because he added more ingredients and you're not actually supposed to lock the latch for expanding food. It didn't have the room to grow and busted out haha
Thank You, as you can see from the comment from Lorraine Blank, it blew up on me twice also. They should really not be selling these things. They are extremely UNSAFE.
not on Lorraine Blank comment but on the one where you shouldn't close the lid on expanding food, and don't fill it way full. what was Lorraine Blank cooking that blew up. Pop Corn.
Your reviews are so great. I can tell you really put in time and effort and truly care about your content. Thank you. Your success will continue I promise that.
I just bought this.....and I made steak my first time....and it was about 5 min, but I like mine quite pink. The steak was very juicy, but it didnt cook as evenly as the Foreman usually does. However....this is smaller and I will put my Foreman to storage and keep this handy since I work overnights and I can cook many more things in this. Thanks for your demo...now I know how long to cook chicken!
This reminds me of another that was out a few years ago by the same person it was called gt express 101 it had plates the you would remove for different things and another one they made before it I don't remember the name of that 1
Use this for everything for a couple years. Food Cooks better if you don't lock the lid as my instructions told me not to do..Omelets raise so high the lid opens about 2 inches when cooked! Amazing little travel cooker!
I believe the white of the meat was from basically poaching/steaming it, the sides didn't have access to the cooking surface or oil splashing to brown. Maybe flipping halfway like the others, it would have less poaching and more even browning.
I've used it a few times for omelletes but only with one egg because I like to add veggies and cheese. Not impressed with the other uses but I really appreciate your effort.
XMetalMatter Rammstein it does I just watched the cooking with Jack show and it exploded on him twice he even called the company and they said that they are not aware of it exploding
It only "explodes" if it builds enough pressure to lift the lid for the steam to escape. Just don't lock it when cooking food that produces excess moisture.
I think the point of this little cooker is for single people that do not want to cook a ton of food! I bought one for my 83 yr old grandmother....she can freeze or refrigerate the remaining food until she’s ready to cook it. My husband is making us individual blueberry pies with it right now...love this little cooker!!
Just purchased a cooper's quick cooker no cooking instructions with only safety details, I haven't got a clue as how to cook anything on it,do you have recipe book I can buy? Or please advise me thanks.
I was gifted one of these for Christmas and today is the first day I'm hoping to try it out. Thanks for the biscuits how to! By the way, it would be helpful to know how thawed your food items were prior to cooking. Thanks again.
I drive long haul and cooking on the truck can be a chalange some times. Picked one of these up at Wal-Mart just to see how it worked- for the size I had to try it. I didnt read the instructions past learning that theres no on off switch (I agree that its a little bit of a flawed call on the manufacturer's part) but I tried it out while I portioned out my meats, first up was some drum sticks, little salt and pepper, olive oil and chilli powder (mind you I had not seen the advertisements for this thing or read reviews-none of that; full on blind test) only 2 fit in it, had them in for about 15 min flipping about every 4. No seal had the oil spilling out, but other than that they came out perfect. Next up tried one of the preformed burger pattys, had to break it in half, took about 10 min and flipped after 5; came out perfect. For the size and convenience I'd say its Deffinately worth it for truckers, though I wish it was a little bigger. Cleaned up very easy with a damp cloth

that chicken looked drier than the Sahara desert.... 15 minutes and the temp over 200 degrees lmao... james you murdered it bro
Great review, your chicken is over cooked at 199 degrees. 165 is ideal for poulty. The sides won't brown as not in contact with the heat.
Yes, it takes some trial and error to get the timing right for each dish.
Good review in depth but not drawn out my mom has this and she loves it because it’s just her and for one person it’s great she says
Thank you, I bought one and wasn't really sure if it was some thing I wanted to keep and the answer is no. I take reviews serious and appreciate other peoples opinions.
Deanna Lindsey im rhe same way. Because of reviews I stop buying stuff without seeing a review
Hello James!! Great video as usual. Not a bad product. I love your wrist watch!!😎very cool looking. Thanks again
Hah thanks Latasha. It's a Marc Ecko brand that I've had for a while, but recently got it fixed.
This is the first time I have watched your videos. I will be watching more . Great help.
Fantastic little Unit and cost me $69 - it cooked most of my Food in Half of the Time - Eggs - Hamburger - Tuna Steaks - Beef Sausages - Thin small Steaks etc - please do not forget to use a Food-Meat Thermometer that reads in Fahrenheit and Celsius -and has a Rage from -58F to 572F or -50C to 300C my Unit cost me $12-95 - Enjoy a Fry Up - and it takes only 30 Sec. to wipe Clean ! Bacon Rashers will only Take 3 Minutes !
Great review. I think I might give one a try. How deep is the well, looks like about 1/2" ?
Thanks! And yes, each well is about half an inch.
You could put cinnamon rolls in there. Bet that would turn out nice!
C.H. Delivery thanks a lot, now I have a craving for cinnamon rolls, it's 1 AM and nothing's open.😀
Jean Nespechal SAME
Same 😒
they do turn out good. and so does a lot of other thing's
I would also like to see a timer on it as well.
can you make a meatloaf in the shape of cooker that would be less thicker and cook all the way through ???
IndyDuane i
Lol you’re dumb
Just picked one up for $2 at the local thrift store. Looked like it had been used once. Came on here to see a real world use and review, thanks for the video.
Hi... kindly asking if you could share the cook book lost mine.thanks
I was watching this tutorial and it said, do not lock the latch when making an omelet, to let the steam escape. Maybe that's why yours didn't come out fluffy.
My parents have this same unit and they locked the lid doing an omelette and the egg exploded so that makes sense to not lock the lid
Thank you for your reviews. I thoroughly enjoy them. I like most will probably wait until the manufacturers design one that has removable grids that can be cleaned in the dishwasher, an on/off switch. Again thank you.
Maximum effort, lol. For, you next test for this, can you try:
-panini sandwhich or ham and cheese
-pizza rolls or homemade pizza pocket
-meatballs
-veggies
-Egg McMuffin sandwich homemade
I have no intentions of buying it but I enjoy you reviewing it with different food. You made me hungry when I saw that chocolate 🍰 and chicken 🐔.
When I either do a Part 2, or my usual follow-up, I'll take some of your suggestions!
@@Freakinreviews
Did you do an update for this that I missed???
OMG! Make a Reuben in this!! Typical ingredients! 1 1/2 min on each side!!
5 years later I just got mine from goodwill for $1.99 can’t wait to try it 😅
Thanks so much. I have had great success with this. widower's can't cook as well as wives can. love omelets Biscuits & gravy. it's perfect for the culinary challenged.
I would get one of these. I live alone so it is perfect for me. Thanks for the great review.
New sub here and am thrilled to have found you! Love your reviews! Looking forward to watching more!
Sticky cake happened when you turned it over before it had a chance to cook on the 1st side. All the batter fell to the bottom and left a little bit on the grill to burn. Same thing happens with the waffle irons that you flip.
Great review! I bought one awhile back and love it. I love that I can take it to work and have a healthy lunch cooked in no time.
Great review!!! Nice seeing you doing some gadget cooking too. Thanks for sharing😃
Thanks Christy!
👍
I have one and I love it, if you make your hamburgers a little thinner it works great, and it's excellent for cornbread, and fish fillets, I use mine daily, but it is a pain to clean.... And whatever I'm cooking it usually needs to be flipped... I made thin breakfast porkchops in it, they were excellent... Steak, etc. It's perfect for one person...
I’ve just bought one for my mum
We read the instructions ,it said do not close latch down
Or flip it over
We’re a bit disappointed not many recipes. Only about 4
Year late but, you can see the instructions and I’m sure he can read, you must’ve bought a different one
I was about to buy one of these, but now it seems like more trouble than it's worth! Thanks for the helpful review!
I remember the lady on the cover of that booklet you showed. She demoed another item similar to this many years ago. The product had two wells. I forget the name though. But she did the cake and the candy bar thing there, too.
It was a sandwich maker. I loved it. Used to make grilled cheese for family dinners in it
Very impressive and methodical. I"m looking for a small cooking device but this one lacks any obvious features like on/off switch, auto shut off, temperature setting?
Ok as a bachelor apartment or small camper appliance. Would like to see a model twice as wide with removable plates for cleaning, possibly for different uses.
It definitely would have been nice if you could remove the plates and submerge them in water to clean.
It's very easy to clean if you know how to cook in it.
Thanks!
Me too. Someone gave me one w no Instructions.
This would be great for a gluten free person, who has to cook food separately.
I got one of these for free cleaning out a garage. I use mine to make Cubans. I'm gonna do the burger tonight! I like mine red in the middle!
Maybe if you made the hamburger longer and thinner it would cook better inside?? Just a guess.
yep they looked bulky to mr thinner cook quicker
Thanks for this. Sometimes after work I don't want a complicated meal. I just want a few bites of something hot. I picked up several of Kathy Mitchels products that have turned out pretty good. My favorite is still the Pasta Boat.
Does this cooker cook a chicken breast? As a single senior person this looks like it might be an easier way to go than on the stove.
Yes it does, but there's a little trial and error to getting it right.
I bought this last week. Thanks to your reviews on how it works. Thank you Walt.
I think I have the large version which collects dust lol I had do many plans
Oh, cool. I was hoping you'd do this thing eventually. I had been contemplating getting one, but I wanted to know whether or not it was a ripoff.
I love mine. You're suppose to flip it..the whole device half way through cooking.
I am sitting here eating chicken I cooked in the 5 Minute Chef. There is a learning curve for sure but I'm finding uses for it.
Thanks for reviewing this. I just saw the commercial for this product today.
You are giving a review but then not using the machine as per the instructions. It clearly states that the lid should NOT be fastened down when it is cooking. Not sure what impact this may have but you are potentially showing people how to use it incorrectly
.
Definitely also appreciate the quality in your review that's what's real. That's what viewers look for!
> 200 degrees chicken
> Still juicy
Pick one
Good review. Picked up one second hand and for light stuff it may be ok but for large quantities or big items, not quite so useful.
I could see this being good for a college kid or something like that.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Most universities won't allow these types of cooking machines into the halls. They consider it a fire hazard. Residents can only rely on the microwave.
I'm considering it for my truck. It seems like it would be just right for a truck driver. Small, compact, and easy to clean.
Maybe next model will have tiny vent holes to allow steam to escape.
at least someone has some brains in their head.
Makes great “loaded “ omelettes!! Use same pan and saute a few onions, tomatoes and peppers, then mix with eggs and grated cheese! No oil! Yum!
@@catheydavis8575 Yes :) so delish :) just tried love it!
These videos are oddly comforting to watch.
You are not supposed to close the latch and lock it while cooking!
I make omlets with egg, peppers, onions, and hash brown tater tots, comes out perfect, the other ppl may have gotten a bad one. my opinion is it's great
I think its 5minutes a side for the hamburgers
I have one of those I use it all the time, I toast my wraps in it and when i cant be bothered with the fry pan I use this :) i love it.
The effort was great on this one man! However the George foreman can’t be replicated no matter how people try but there’s a reason it didn’t make cakes or biscuits etc cause the crazy amount of years that was on the market they would have come out with that version.
Thanks Clint. I'm also a longtime fan of the Foreman grills (bought my first one in 1998), and I don't expect this to replace them in my kitchen.
Isn't it a safety hazard to have no on-off switch? Does it have an automatic off like a steam iron?
Jack Scalfani of "Cooking With Jack" used one of these and it blew up twice.
Because he added more ingredients and you're not actually supposed to lock the latch for expanding food. It didn't have the room to grow and busted out haha
Jo.Bella S it might be the newer models. This one is older.
Thank You, as you can see from the comment from Lorraine Blank, it blew up on me twice also. They should really not be selling these things. They are extremely UNSAFE.
exactally right.
not on Lorraine Blank comment but on the one where you shouldn't close the lid on expanding food, and don't fill it way full. what was Lorraine Blank cooking that blew up. Pop Corn.
Your reviews are so great. I can tell you really put in time and effort and truly care about your content. Thank you. Your success will continue I promise that.
U deserve more subs
I just bought this.....and I made steak my first time....and it was about 5 min, but I like mine quite pink. The steak was very juicy, but it didnt cook as evenly as the Foreman usually does. However....this is smaller and I will put my Foreman to storage and keep this handy since I work overnights and I can cook many more things in this. Thanks for your demo...now I know how long to cook chicken!
This reminds me of another that was out a few years ago by the same person it was called gt express 101 it had plates the you would remove for different things
and another one they made before it I don't remember the name of that 1
Kitty Kats saw one of those in a thrift store last week
Use this for everything for a couple years. Food Cooks better if you don't lock the lid as my instructions told me not to do..Omelets raise so high the lid opens about 2 inches when cooked! Amazing little travel cooker!
That chicken was cooked way over temp.
yeah, looks like it was at well at around 12~13 minute mark, but hard to tell
I believe the white of the meat was from basically poaching/steaming it, the sides didn't have access to the cooking surface or oil splashing to brown. Maybe flipping halfway like the others, it would have less poaching and more even browning.
I've used it a few times for omelletes but only with one egg because I like to add veggies and cheese. Not impressed with the other uses but I really appreciate your effort.
I heard that it explodes your food out.
XMetalMatter Rammstein it does I just watched the cooking with Jack show and it exploded on him twice he even called the company and they said that they are not aware of it exploding
myranda wilkins I wasn't going to say his Channel, because of possible harassment.
Why do you have to flip the eggs but not the cake. This just seams like a new version of the GT express.
It only "explodes" if it builds enough pressure to lift the lid for the steam to escape. Just don't lock it when cooking food that produces excess moisture.
I picked one of these up in a charity shop for £3, it's missing instructions, so really glad I found this review. 🤔 think I got a bargain!
If you're going to look like Walter White, you gotta try to cook meth in it.
🤔Is that comment really necessary though??
🤫🤫🤫
I think the point of this little cooker is for single people that do not want to cook a ton of food! I bought one for my 83 yr old grandmother....she can freeze or refrigerate the remaining food until she’s ready to cook it. My husband is making us individual blueberry pies with it right now...love this little cooker!!
All of these gadgets are just kitchen tools like a pot or pan you have to use your judgement ,not the instructions to get the best results.
Thanks for the great review! I might have to get one❤️👍👍

mjhonold watch cooking with Jack it exploded and you could get hurt
