My suggestion - only use the latch to keep it closed when moving the appliance around or putting it in storage. Don't lock the latch when cooking. The makers don't advise it and it's not necessary to keep it locked shut while in operation. However, if you plan to FLIP the device, first open it to see how the cooking is coming along and to release any steam build-up. Then close it again and apply the latch. That way you can flip it safely. Once flipped, UNDO the latch again for the remainder of the cooking time. All this soon becomes second nature to you.
I think opening it and letting the steam out prevents it from exploding. My first omelet exploded, second one I let steam out before turning and it didn't explode.
If you read the book and the recipes, it states do not latch. The pressure of the built up steam causes the explosion. The latch is there for when you flip and storage. My 10 yr old even knew to read the book before using it.
This appliance is going to be really great for students - especially those sharing a living space. Each student can choose what he/she wants to cook. The next person can do something different without hogging the device for very long. Students want to be able to make an enjoyable meal quickly, without deep cooking skills - that may come later!

Now, others have reviewed this product and have latched it while cooking without any problems. To me it sounds more like there’s a defect in some models that isn’t present in all.
He needs reporting. If he cooks with it closed it can explode. If you follow his method and you need to contact your insurance. Please refer them to this video to claim against his insurance.

u must have a faulty unit bro no play in mine and mine takes about 2 and a half mins 3 mins max i also payed £21 which is probably $12 to 15$ 6+minutes to make it took i could of made 2 lol
@@carpii yeah, if you do that the inside fats of the red copper ceramic is gonna seperate out into a yellow grease layer obviously, it would take a fetus to not know that ceramic is fat
do not cook omelets - if you do not see steam it may explode. i would never cook omelets because it for some reason only steams, Use for other cooking, stir fry meat veggies, cook frozen oni0n rings, tacos, pizza rolls, frozen veggies, -corn peas carrots , brussel sprouts, meat- get a link cut it up and put it in the copper kithcen, will cook it to perfection bottom line is this -you can put any frozen object in the red copper 5 minute as long as you do no overfill- learn to put some amounts for yourself and you will be happy 4.5 stars because when they build a bigger model for two person it i worth every penny i love this no frill easy to clean red copper. go to bed bath beyond and buy it and try and if you do not like return it back...cheers

STILL THE BEST TO COOK TWO EGGS AND TO CLEAN IT IN 5 MINUTES. NOTHING COMES CLOSE, SMOOTH, STREAMLINE, EFFICIENT,GREAT FOR ONE PERSON.

I have one. Still experimenting with it. Instructions say not to latch it when cooking. They have to tell you every little thing to avoid being sued.

If you don't open it every ten seconds it would do the job in 5 minutes. Only need to flip once. I've had mine for a while.
