+Raven Potato--Me Too! I just graduated with my BA in Anthro and I'm saving up some money while doing lab internships with hopes of getting into a Masters/Ph.D. program in For. Anth.
I’ve wanted to be a forensic anthropologist since I was ten, when I started taking classes at Brandon University, with an after school program I joined. We got to test with real bones, those who have been volunteers for the pure meaning of science, to determine TOD, COD, sex, age, and race. I’m now 14, and still reading up my entire book shelf of science. I just subscribed and I love your channel, I really hope you succeed in this TH-cam career.
I am from Romania and i never thought of becoming an anthropologist until I've watched almost all crime series from CSI investigation,Bones, Criminal minds and Law and order now I'm interested in this field
I loveee anything to do with the human body and Forensic Anthropology is right up my lane but my sister says a lot of people wait in line to become one and I just don’t want to think I wasted so much time on going to school to not get a job 🙁, so if I don’t get that job then I’ll most likely go into psychology ☺️
I actually wanted to be a forensic anthropologist since I was five! about a decade later nothing has changed so it’s pretty safe to say I will major in forensic science
Can I get a job as an anthropologist in America (with a degree in anthropology and phd in forensic anthropology)? Is that field welcoming foreigners? Not much to do where I'm from.
There are not any PhD programs specifically in forensic anthropology, but rather simply within biological anthropology. There are a couple of master programs that grant degrees in forensic anthropology (MSc in Forensic Anthropology), like Boston University, Texas State, and Mercyhurst, however the general thought is that PhD programs are less likely to accept students from these institutions because they will be lacking in the other subdisciplines of bioanth (paleoanthropology, human evolution, primate knowledge, biomechanics, etc). In general, it is best to receive a masters in anthropology while focusing on a forensic or forensically applicable thesis and the same goes for the PhD. dissertation. My mentor has a PhD in biological anthropology with a focus on bone biomechanics but works as a forensic anthropologist. Most of the time, forensic anthro is not a fulltime job, but rather the anthropologist will teach full time at a university or medical school and doing research while doing part time field work in forensics as requested. It is a lot of networking and getting your name out there rather than just being employed as a forensic anthropologist. It is kind of a family tree of sorts, i.e. if your mentor is not a forensic anthropologist, it is going to be way harder for you to break into the field.
This is my favorite video so far. I think being unflappable in a witness box is just a matter of experience, and everyone has a part of their job that is unpleasant. For instance, I find the "work" part of my job unpleasant. Lunch and weekends are OK. I like the pillow.
+Field Notes Actually, I noticed it because the email notification popped up on my screen at an opportune time for me to watch the video. It doesn't sound like you're out of practice at all.
When I entered High school, I knew I wanted to be a forensic scientist, but I wasn't sure of which field I wanted to go into. Now I definitely believe it's Anthropology and sadly enough, this decision was influenced by "Bones". I don't think I'll fancy the court part. :(
I totally understand that feeling! Bones has definitely helped open up the field of anthropology, the author of the books is actually a pretty notable forensic anthropologist :)
I want to major in anthropology, never really liked Bones the show, but I love history and things of that sort. My mother is suggesting Forensic Anthropology but.... jesus christ.
i want to know is do you have to go to like medical medical school for this and then some other type for anthropology because that seems unlikely or impossible for me 😶
I'm A Communications Major at least two Science classes are needed is Forensic Anthropology something you'd recommend COM Majors take? I'm having a hard time figuring out what to take Science wise Forensic Anthropology does sound interesting
I have been interested in Forensic Anthropology since a young age. I didn’t know that was what it was called back then when I was smol 6 year old looking at mummies, but here I am at 13 obsessing over forensic anthropology after watching Bones. I look at cadavers instead of playing GTA and COD. 👍
I'm 15 years old and I have been looking into careers recently so I can take classes in my remaining years of high school that can help me in getting into forensic anthropology. I've been interested in this for awhile now and I was wondering if you could help suggesting classes that would benefit me now in high school!
+Chelsea McMullen hmm depends what is offered! I know a few HS's that offer anthropology as a class, so I'd definitely recommend that, other than that a good base of biology and algebra would be my recommendations.
Look into dual enrollment opportunities with your local community college. I took my first Bio Anthro class as a sophomore in high school and worked in a lab even before I went off to my university.
I'm currently persuing my goal to be an anthropologist in Germany. Studied osteology, sociology, history and so on and starting my masters next month. But I have one serious problem. i can't memorize the whole anatomy of the human being. Every fossa or ramus in the skull every position of every nerve or arteria in every foramen. I always struggle at some point. Is this normal or am I just a sad loser?
+D.M.S. B.A. in Anthro kid here...I'd recommend finding a prof. to mentor you and let you work in their lab. I was able to work in the cataloging of human remains for a local museum and this helped me recognize many of the features that I needed to ID and also gave me a perspective that the vast range of variation. Also (in case you don't already have it) Human Osteology by Tim White et. al. 2005 is a great resource with excellent images that you can continue to use as a reference. Best of Luck!
I have a question. I'm thinking of taking archaeology in university and perhaps continue to osteoarchaeology for my masters. Will I be able to pursue a PhD in forensic anthropology and possibly a career in said field? Thank you :)
If I had done that at my school, then definitely. It will all depend on the school's requirements for certain degrees. Archaeology and forensic anthropology are close enough that you should be able to cross over like that. Forensic anthropology is very competitive, but having a osteo background might help! Be sure to talk to people at your university to figure out exactly what you should do!
Definitely, explore your colleges' options. My Anthro dept ended up being very skewed towards cultural anthro so I focused on bioarch courses and supplemented that with courses from the Biology department like human osteology.
Incredibly good. It goes up to $100,000 depending on what you do. Average is around $34,000 depending on the skill level. That's in America. It's relatively the same in other countries. I believe in UK its £50,000 as the highest? Something like that.
I've been waiting to be a Forensic Anthropologist since I was like 9/10..... I went from a vet to that.... I've been researching about this stuff because I love Bones, but I knew some things were off XD... no one that I know knows what a Forensic Anthropologist is......
I’m currently 13 and Bones has always been my favorite tv show. My dream is to become a forensic anthropologists, thanks for the video ❤️
Sameee
Me too! Bones is clearly a wonderful gateway “drug” for us.
It isn't always pleasant... just keep that in mind
I've wanted to be a forensic anthropologist since I was seven.
I'm that kid, yes.
+Raven Potato (Random ShitPoster) Love it! Psh you mean you were the COOL kid 😉
+Raven Potato--Me Too! I just graduated with my BA in Anthro and I'm saving up some money while doing lab internships with hopes of getting into a Masters/Ph.D. program in For. Anth.
I'm not the only one lol
yep me too lmao

I realize you left this comment two years ago but do you remember what this program was? Sounds amazing and I’d love to be involved.
"...If you don't like school, I have some bad news for you..." That's funny.
i wanted to be a forensic anthropologist sense I was a child and at 29 I'm finally starting on my degree.
I love the idea of forensic pathology, but I don't like the idea of court AND another 13 years of school
you are the only one. ONLY thing holding me back, is the school.
about to start my masters in forensic anthropology!
The information was very impressive. Keep educating the masses. Take care and be in good health.
My teacher made it very clear to us on the first day that it takes decades of school to end up where he was.

who else tried to read the name of the books in rack :P
I do the same thing in videos lol
always wanted to be this and i honestly cant wait one day closer to completing my dream
I can’t wait until I’m a forensic anthropologist. A little early studying never hurt anyone 😂
got into mercyhurst and their applied forensics major! im so excited, forensic anthropology has been my dream career since i was like 8
Yay a field notes video. I want to see one with bones.
Thank you for the information about forensic anthropology ❤️❤️
I actually wanted to be a forensic anthropologist since I was five! about a decade later nothing has changed so it’s pretty safe to say I will major in forensic science

Hi, Is it possible to determine if a woman was pregnant 25 yrs after her murder?
I'm 15 years old and I have been looking into careers recently so I can take classes in my remaining years of high school that can help me in getting into forensic anthropology. SnoopysOtherBird chill. you are normal. but you have to practice. A lot. like a lot. did I say a lot? A lot.

Hey ya, I'm currently 22, majored in Human Biology, I wanna switch to Forensic Anthropology as my master degree. Is it too late to start?

Can one help with my shooting? (I was shot twice in my head)
Fascinating! I'm not really into forensic science, but I found this surprisingly interesting! Keep up the good work!
+S Sosa Fiscella Thank you!
I've wanted to be a forensic anthropologist since I was a little kid. I know that's probably weird, but it's true 😂
I've been waiting to be a Forensic Anthropologist since I was like 9/10..... I went from a vet to that.... I've been researching about this stuff because I love Bones, but I knew some things were off XD... no one that I know knows what a Forensic Anthropologist is......
