@1:19 Deliberate knock on: ' IRB rule 12.1 (e)"A player must not intentionally knock the ball forward with hand or arm, nor throw forward.'
This is in the rules to prevent throwing the ball over a player and catching it the other side.
Same thing happened to Scotland in the World Cup vs Australia, no one even talked about it. Ref's really need to get on top of this because it's impossible to defend against. Can't tackle a man who has tipped it over you.

Fred A and what an effect it had on the overall result?

It's not knocked on, he caught it. It's only a knock-on if it comes into contact with the floor or an opponent. As long as it's not totally in control (pass to yourself, which would be a forward pass) it's totally legal

That's not the rules. The quote I used is from the laws of rugby, it even goes so far as to point out that your distinction is incorrect: 'knock or throw'
You can't forward pass to yourself. That wouldn't be a pass. A pass is 'throwing the ball to a team mate'. You can deliberate knock forward, or deliberate throw forward to yourself, as is shown above, and whenever you knock the ball over another player's head and retrieve it the other side you are doing so. Whether the motion you used was a tap or a throw it is the same outcome.

Fred A it may be the same outcome, but one is legal, the other is not. It’s not the outcome that’s illegal, it’s the action. The tip and catch is judged legal because it is not in total control

Do you not think that Matt actually got 4 tries was that really a double movement ? He only made one attempt to place the ball.
