    Hi, from Warren, MI USA Thank you for sharing your grandfather's recipe I love it. My grandparents were from Germany and I am always looking for authentic German recipes since my grandmother's recipes were lost when I was little. I have such fond memories of the foods she used to make for me on the weekends I always spent with her. My fondest memories were of the poppyseed strudel she would always have for me when I walked through the door after school on Friday along with a big pot of Chicken paprikash. She was very special to me and now that I am getting up in the years there isn't a day that she doesn't cross my mind or the foods she would make for me that I could go on and on about among other things. So a big thank you for the recipes. Wishing you well from Michigan, Donna

      Let me tell you something.
      My mother was a fantastic cook. We 3 children ,born 1945, 1948, 1950, all 3 still alive, loved her cooking.
      And she had lots of fantasie when it came to cooking something new from leftovers. I am so happy that she taught me to use up leftovers.
      We had lots of plain tasty dishes, which I cook from time to time. Not only they are delicious, they bring back part of ny childhood. Thank you mum, MUTTI !
      YOUR BREAD IS SUPER !!!
      ❤❤❤🇩🇪❤❤❤!

    Love a good easy bread recipe. TIP: I dissolve the sugar in the water, that way its easier for the yeast to gobble up instead of it being dry taking a little longer to dissolve in the flour. Pontiac, Michigan I enjoy your videos. Another TIP. We have many Dollar Stores, I buy and use instead of plastic wrap, A shower cap without the holes to cover my dough to rise. You can reuse them and clean them to boot many times. Now days they also have the Silicon covers you can use.

      Hi Detroit Michigan here ;)
      Did you proof the dry yeast first in water or did you follow the receipt as shown ? I remember last time my German dad baked the yeast did not grow. My American wife told him to proof the yeast first. In Germany we mainly used active yeast that comes in a block not dry and in grains.

    Cooking from the US. I use a Dutch oven at 450 the bottom is always overdone. I incorporated your sugar, and your technique of olive oil as shown with my other recipe along with kneading the bread longer. That really made a difference. Thank you. Finally tried things your way. I just needed to bake it longer uncovered. Thank you so much!

Baked it at a little higher heat for a little less time and then uncovered and baked another 10- 15 minutes. Turned out beautiful, I can't wait to try it. Update: my children and husband love it, this is now our go to bread recipe, thank you.

      I was wondering if it would work in my dutch oven. Would you mind sharing the exact temperature and times? Also, did you use all purpose flour? I’m not sure if that’s what they mean by “wheat flour”. 😂 Thank you!

    • @HiddenBlessingsHomestead
      @HiddenBlessingsHomestead 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@donnaandre7633 I take 1/2 the flour for the recipe and use ground whole wheat and spelt, the rest I use all purpose white flour.I use instant yeast instead of traditional,
      3 1/2 - 4 c. flour depending on the day
      2 1/2 tsp. instant yeast
      1 tablespoon of sugar.
      2 teaspoons of salt.
      400 ml warm water.
      I preheat my dutch oven anywhere from 450-500 before putting the bread in. Depending how hot it is, it takes about 20 for the initial bake before removing the lid, then bake til golden and thumps hollow on the bottom or internal temp of 205.

    Hi, thanks for taking the time and effort, recipes that have been handed down from our Mothers or Grandmothers are best. When I bake my bread I use just cold filtered water, the salt is mixed in with the water and added last to the flour and yeast. The yeast will feed off the flour and start to do it’s magic, I never add sugar. I knead the dough like you do, then rest the dough, then do the same as you did. Once it has had the last proving I put the dough into a ceramic oven proof round shaped pot, lid on. Place the pot into the oven and turn on to 250°C. Bake for 40 minutes. the bread has puffed up and developed a nice crust, but is still pale in colour. Bake for another 10-15 minutes or until the bread has a burnt caramel colour. Remove the pot from the oven, tip the bread onto a wire rack , allow to cool. 😃

      I'm amazed too. Once I made a yeast dough but it never rose, so I called my grandmother. She said, if you aren't sure your yeast is fresh, add a teaspoon of sugar or honey in your yeast and water for feeding the yeast. If it goes flat buy fresh yeast and start over to save on wasted flour. I got in the habit whenever I was in doubt.

    I just made this. It's the same as most other bread recipes, just a bit more sugar. The amount of water in the instructions is 400mls and other bakers noticed that she used maybe 300 to 330 mls. I ended up using 380mls, due to my arid climate. I also used an 18 cm cruset and covered with another ceramic. I really liked the rise. I used a 35 minute cook time and a 20 minute uncovered cook time. It almost burned (everyone's oven is a little different). I would make again and see if dividing the dough in half to bake the next day would work.

    I have never baked any type of bread. After watching you videos I decided to give it a try! I fell in love with baking now! I have made 4 of your recipes with success. I watch other videos from other you tubers but when it comes to baking the bread I go back to your recipes. Easy, taste wonderful! Thank you so much. I live in Montana USA and we have a long cold winter. This is going to be my favorite thing to do during our winter, however we are in the middle of summer and the heat hasn’t stopped me from learning. Are you in Germany? Which part?❤️

      I just saw your post, made me kinda sad that you got no response to asking where in Germany. Guess I won't get answered either. ( asked the same question.)
      Anyway you wrote a nice comment.
      Best wishes. Hope you're having good bread baking results. I'm baking bread, a sourdough type just now.

      I bake mine in cast iron. If I am not going to cover it I just use a 9" skillet to make a small boule`. I will divide and let one bake for 15mins and then pop it out and put the 2nd one in. I leave the 2nd one in for the whole cook time. It doesn't seem to make a difference either way.

      So if I use my large Dutch oven, the flat lid will be okay to cover it with? I don’t have a bowl like this and I’m not sure I could find one that isn’t just cheap stainless steel.. don’t think that would work

    • @danielboughton3624
      @danielboughton3624 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sammiejammie521 The difficult part of putting it inside the dutch oven is getting the loaf in there intact. Generally people will put it on a flat surface and then cover it with the deep thing e.g. the dutch oven. This might be a bit awkward but should work.

    Oscoda, Michigan USA your recipes are always delicious looking. I make all of my bread with Sourdough starter, but very similar recipes to yours. I have recently added a silicon insert with lifting handles to my cast iron dutch oven. It eliminates the need for parchment paper. Thank you for sharing your [and your Grandfather's] recipes.

      Could you use those lifting handles to lift the bread OUT OF THE DUTCH OVEN without having to pull the entire thing out of a very hot oven? Askng because I am in a wheelchair and it's really dangerous and difficult to pull out a hot pot as heavy as the DO without dropping it or worse, getting burned. Wondering. Amazon purchase?
