  • This was taken at the annual fetatrɔtrɔ festival held at the Aƒetɔku Shrine in Dagbamete, Ghana. Tɔgbui Aƒetɔku is a major vodu (God/spirit) in this region and has thousands of followers. The popularity of this shrine is because of its focus on love of your neighbours, truth, and justice, and protection against malicious spiritual activities and success in life that the deity can afford a member.
This clip is taken while nearing the climax of the procession of the shrine members, led by the priests (hunuawo), who are entering the shrine (gbodzi) for the first time since its annual cleansing and renewal. This festival happens every year around Easter and all people are welcome to witness.....nothing to hide. This is the first day and is followed by a week of sacrifices, renewals of faith and friendship and wake-keepings on each evening (drumming/dancing thorough the night). It is concentrated and strong display of one type of indigenous culture that can be found across Africa, which is sadly becoming harder and harder to find die to various post-colonial hangovers and the intense efforts of evangelical Christianity.
From L-R : Tsiame C.K Davor (late), Hunua Yao Dunyo, Ŋgɔbea Kofi Davor, Humegbeda Kwasi Dunyo.

    It usually happens around Easter.
In the Fall there is a smaller version.
    It is quite an event.
