It's the best album of their reunion era. People who enjoy 70's epic and darker Priest like me seem to at least understand this album. I happen to love it.

Nostradamus really HAS its flaws, but ranking it as the worst album is a totally laughable move. We should encourage guys to release albums in the proggy vein (not uselessly prolonged ones - looking at you Maiden). If guys added live orchestra, let guitars do their work and speeded things up it would be a total blaster

this album is a master piece. Need to be listened from beginning to end loud on the road

I loved this record and respect priest for always trying to evolve and do different things. I think if someone could get ahold of the stems, there could be an abridged version that would probably really surprise a lot of people who would maybe prefer a shorter and to the point format of this record. Seeing this live with an orchestra would have been absolutely amazing.

FINALLY this album gets recognition it rightfully deserves. I appreciate it much guys stepped outta their comfort zone in 2008 and tried something completely different. They did not want to be labeled as a monotonous boring ageing metal band. To be honest I was lil bit tired of their relative predictability what the album concerts and this one took my breath away (no pun intended) with its structure and preludes (some of them weaker or stronger). The idea of Nostradamus has been elaborated before, but guys brought a different point of view. First of all its fair to give some space to critical opinions. The production is lil bit weak and I think that is an issue nobody won't question. Another "problem" with this album are weak guitars. I literally can't hear them - probably I am deaf but don't think so. Love the instrumental parts in many of these songs but I really am missing live orchestra, but do not want to trash Don Airey, because he did an amazing job in Nostradamus eponymous song and I wish guys collaborated with him more. I love that album cover art to be honest. No stupid monsters, but an cover art that became even Mark Wilkinson's favourite (I guess it was Four Horsemen painting - in fact it really is amazing exactly like the album cover art). All in one I am thirsty for more albums like that but it would be fine if guys took a lesson from this album and improve their another proggy record that is gonna be lil bit shorter and faster than Nostradamus. Can't wait!

@@davidknichal6629 LOL the guitars are one of the best parts of this album..

    • @davidknichal6629
      @davidknichal6629 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@RiGrêmioNetoo I have to stand by my point. Guitars on Nostradamus should be much louder and audible. You can't take only eponymous song or Persecution. These songs are rare exceptions. The rest of the songs leans on synts (which is not bad thing in general) or orchestration. I really do hope their next album is gonna be more proggy than Firepower, which was extremely successful

Nostradomas is in my top 5 Priest albums. It's so deep and delicious. You get to hear a different side of Rob's vocals, which are brilliant. Glenn and K.K. have some great guitar work, but also expressed thier ideas through different instrumentation. I think it's meant to be listened to as a whole, which seems to be a turnoff for some people. I love it, just like I love Pink Floyd's The Wall. It's a great ride. Thanks for making this video. It's nice to see some love for this Masterpiece.

I've always loved this album, but that's probably because I still had dial-up internet when this came out. I didn't have easy access to the people's opinions. I was admittedly only like 13 at the time but it touched me in all the right ways.

Well said mate! People need to spend more time with it. Like with a drink and and the lyrics, honestly I didn’t like it much when it first came out. I appreciated it a few years ago. But yes, I agree had they played the whole album on tour night after night, who knows people would have loved it !

I think this is a fine album! If nothing else, it gets credit for finding two different ways to work the name Nostradamus into the chorus of two different songs! Perhaps this album could have used a little bit of trimming here and there, but I like the overall feel and that Halford gets to embrace the more operatic side of his voice. And War is probably among my top 15 favorite Priest songs!

It had some good tracks. It's not their best, but has some very good tunes all the same. The title tracks main riff has a Painkiller feeling to it.

I had dismissed this album for a long time. About a month or two ago I decided to give it another try. Since then, I've listened to it around 15 times. It's an album that rewards with repeat listens and has been rising rapidly in my rankings. One of my favorite songs on it is "War." It's a stunning achievement.

You know that’s almost what people say about Dream Theaters- the astonishing, I have heard people say the concept or story line has been done before and the album is to long, but I feel if you love a band why should it matter you love there music and if your a fan and they do it well it shouldn’t get boring I love both bands and I just can’t get enough of their creativity and there musicianship

I have no problem with the length of The Astonishing, and musically, it’s brilliant, but man, those were some of the worst lyrics of their career.

In my opinion you can't remove the interludes, it sets the tone for the songs, gets you in the mood. Of course breaking the law fans wouldn't understand it.

This was the first Judas Priest album I've ever listened to. It literally introduced Judas Priest to me. And I loved it. The reason it kinda failed may very well be that people loved their old sound and weren't open to anything new.

The album requires a lot of patience; most of their albums do not. But it's not bad, I agree. Long intro's, like Maiden.

As an old school listener who grew up in the 70s I always say a big no to cutting a double CD of 40 mins each to an abridged single CD of 70 mins. Give me something digestible as a double vinyl.

Cool that you listen to music. Of course this album has it' s weak points but there are lots of great music if you really listen to it. The vocals are fantastic and this is maybe the best guitar work the guys ever did. Take your headphones and listen to the solo section in Revelations. It has all a metal guitar can do. You can clearly hear the different styles of Glenn and KK. Same in Persecution which is a classic Priest heavy metal song. And there are other typical Priest metal songs. There is for sure a great traditional 50 minute JP in it. Exciled reminds me a lot of Blood red skies. Great melodies! Lost love sounds like the Sin after sin ballads. Wish they would play Alone live. Same with Conquest and Future of mankind . I think I saw them play 3 songs of the album: Prophecy, Death and the titletrack. The problem is that there are too many short pieces and a song like Pestilence and Plague has bad samples. But
as you said this album is far from a bad album. I have more a problem with Painkiller and Jagulator. But that's it. Love or like all their other albums.Great band!

Rob has a varied taste in music so why not experiment.
Some people got into Priest from Firepower which is sad .
I won't embarrass the sad web site other than its Canadian
Complete lack of knowledge of Priest, and even hated Halfords solo work, they know nothing.
