Everyone in the gym is Goku or Vegeta in their head man. I'm in my late 30's and I know there are Dragon Ball fans older than me and as young as in elementary school. He inspired all of us to train, to fight for what we love and to always help our friends. He taught us many things. He also brought to life some of the most beloved characters in RPG history, like Chrono, Lucca, Frog and party.Thank you, Toriyama sensei.

Seriously, he's super important figure. Sure he did not have the influence on the medium like Tezuka, but the fact that he changed the anime industry from only a few shows being released internationally to a plethora is frankly insane. Not to mention the fact that his art brought RPGs into the mainstream with his artwork. For me personally his Dragon Ball manga made me realize that comics was a unique medium that can do so much as an adult.

Absolutely heartbreaking... I fell in love with DBZ slowly over the years (I saw bits and pieces at my friend's house and only got to watch it consistently around the Buu saga), but Chrono Trigger was where I first fell in love with Toriyama's art. I still have my original SNES copy and it's my favorite JRPG ever and one of my favorite games period. When I saw Super Sayin God for the first time I immediately thought "lol, Goku just powered up to Crono's level."
I have no words to express how much Chrono Trigger means to me and how deep the loss of Toriyama wounds me. I know more people are going to be upset about Dragon Ball than Chrono Trigger (not that it matters or is a contest) so I just want to remind people how great that game is. Yes, the music, the combat system, and story are amazing, but Toriyama's designs were a huge part of its charm and one of the reasons it holds up so well. And then getting the anime cutscenes in the Playstation version was just... Fuck man. They were so fucking beautiful. I'm so glad they exist. They made me love Dragon Ball more.
I was really, really excited about Daima and Toriyama's more direct involvement with it. I mean, I still am, but it's really bittersweet now. This still doesn't feel real and I'm still not over Kentaro Miura either... Rest easy, Toriyama-san, we're going to miss you.

DBZ being introduced to me in a VHS marathon in my mid-teens...Just like watching reading Berserk in my mid-20's I'd be surly missed without Dragon Ball Z being introduced to

playing on the PS2 via Bukokai 3 and Tekaichi 3! It was also the first manga I picked up that wasn't Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh! it being a large Paper-back of DragonBall V1.

I really loved Dragon Ball, and I still watch some scenes even today. But when I think about it, I don't know if, for example, Dragon Ball, Naruto, and One Piece will stand the test of time. I am totally sure that Berserk will be known for centuries and even thousands of years. Dragon Ball and other stories that are very popular nowadays may not be remembered in the future. There were so many stories that were super popular back then, but nowadays, nobody knows them, while others that were not well-known are now widely recognized. It's like music; there are some songs that everybody listens to for a while, but after some time, nobody listens to them anymore. Meanwhile, high-quality music stands the test of time. Great summary of opinions, Ryan. I am one of the millions he reached at a young age.
Not only did Toriyama make manga/anime blow up in the west, he was probably the biggest ambassador of japanese culture to the world.
Japanese way of thinking, costumes, weird things they do diferently, their values, lifestyle, hopes and fears.
We learned things that adults didn't comprehend way ahead of schedule. Our world expanded suddenly.
If Bruce Lee was the first wave of martial arts fever, Dragon Ball absolutely sparked the second one.
Dragon Ball changed something inside my head, too. I don't think I got dense life lessons from anywhere else at the time.
Nothing else at the time was so tuned to young men, nothing else spoke to me.
It had the perfect tone, goofy but it always took things seriously and earnestly , just like a young man.

4:00 I totez agree! When I first started working out, there was a toned heavy weightlifter that frequented the gym and had SSJ2 Electrostatic Majingeta Tattoo’d on his back right calf
That while listening to hard songs by All That Remains “Fall of Ideals” Full Album while I was weightlifting and thinking I’m not the only one appreciating DBZ in a way that has also Inspired the Hearts & Souls of MULTIPLE Generations of People in different ways 🌟

Yeah, one of my favorite creators because of Dragon Ball, from the anime, manga, and video games godammit it was just my whole life growing up and it hurts but sucks to see him go away like that, I mean if it hadn't been for the dang disease or whatever and maybe if Toriyama had a chance to make some better life choices give or take then maybe things would be very different now... I just wanna say that if he wasn't sick and had those fatal problems if they could have been corrected or differently then yeah he could have lived a little longer or much longer perhaps but I don't know now, I just feel bad for his family mainly and friends or close friends he had along the way.. The rest of the world has been grieving but also showing their greatest memories of Toriyamas through Dragon Ball and honoring him in the most way possible, I just smile at how beautiful the world has been right now at paying respects the man, the myth, and the LEGEND himself Akira Toriyama, I didn't know that he had inspired comic book artists in the west as I today just kind of shifted away from the west media comic wise but I understand that the inspiration Toriyama has done for everyone else like you said cannot be underestimated... It is just like truly some great stuff that I cannot explain but does hit you deep in your core, I would just be smiling, happy, laugh, and be all fired up like Goku and the other Saiyans in Dragon Bal be that was just so much infectious determination for me to keep going and never give up even though like you said yourself as on to others they thought and some and still do think is cheesy, corny, and call others whatever else dumb names they had for DBFANS but like man growing up when you have no positive vibes or motivation to go around you nowhere and you can get it from a show, song, book, or whatever then I would just take whatever I can get honestly.
Unlike for some where watching DB meant you were basic and all that yeah I heard it all it got really annoying, the community itself is far from being saints or as Smart individuals oh that alone I know personally from secondhand experience with them 😅 but yeah DB mainly is just that thing that kept me and brought me hope in life when nothing else did so I would keep at it and just consume very different things related to dragon ball until now... The games man all I'mma say left is that the games I had growing up in the beginning were just Dragon Ball related morely Z and GT if you count Budokai 1 - 3, Budokai Tenkaichi series 1 - 3, Burst Limit, Super Dragon Ball Z, and Raging Blast 1 & 2... It was so magical having those things growing up, me, my brother and parents fighting each other, blowing up planets and 💩 it was just very fond moments and memories... Also I never really knew about Dragon Quest that much back then but I did play a game called Blue Dragon though.
Knowing already about Z I just want to appreciate the rest of Toriyamas work now by finishing OG Dragon Ball, Diama, Dr. Slump, and then some.

Took me a while to understand why those epic fights went for 20 to 30 episodes.
But when it came to the smaller filler episodes, like Goku and Piccolo learning how to Drive a Car.
Or the episode where Gohan goes to school and gets hit by a baseball and just walks to 1st base.
Those were the funny moments that got me into Dragon Ball and understood the series humor.

Not to take away from the moment we are giving to honor Toriyama but always respect how you put real life on the camera bro, no pun intended.
The emotion, nostalgia, the profound shift in sense of self that many people experienced while consuming this art shows just how well Toriyama understood the human condition and how powerful his characters and stories are. Through his art he extended his hand to anyone who felt beat down and said “we go again, theres another level we can reach. ”
He’s an icon, a legend, a pioneer and a symbol of human achievement that cannot be overlooked.
RIP Akira Toriyama and thank you for everything you’ve done and inspired. 👊🏼

Him passing was a big like when I Bruce Lee passed even though he passed before I was born. It was a big deal still. Tupac... Mac Dre .. Aaliyah... Selena... Stan Lee... And now Akira.... I remember seeing DBZ on tv as kid but I didn't get into the story back then. I did read a few volumes of the Dragon Ball manga from the library I think around my 20s but it was really only recently that I actually decided to watch Dragon Ball from the start, then DBZ Kai
then I think Super and then Dragon Ball GT and while I knew it was going to be good I thought that it was going to be overrated
but nah the Dragon Ball franchise is as good as they say it is but I think more so than fights (which are awesome) what really
impressed me was the humor and how despite the obvious deus ex machina that is the Dragon Balls themselves Toriyama
was able to weave the story in such a way that it never felt lazy because even though the Dragon Balls were virtually limitless in
power that didn't mean there weren't still complications. I also really like Gohan but not just the obvious cool moment when he
fought Cell. I mean I think Adult Gohan is a great character. A lot of people will give him shit for not training but when he's spending
time with his wife Videl and his daughter Pan I think it was great. It helped distinguish him.
My favorite arc was the Buu saga. I think it was brilliant what Toriyama did with it. I felt like it had the perfect balance of
    comedy, fighting and heartfelt sentiment.
Yet even though I wasn't really into DBZ as much as a kid and honestly I was more into stuff like Calvin and Hobbes and
Animaniacs as a kid but it was high school and after when I got into Naruto and that opened the door for other anime and manga.
I seen other anime like I watched Samurai X (never got into Kenshin though) and bits of Trigun at a friend's before but I still didn't get anime as being anything other then "this is wacky but it's kind of funny too." And the first anime movie I've ever seen is MD Geist when I was like 8
and I had no idea what the fuck was going on except that it was bad ass and I rewatched it later and I'm like yep...still bad ass.
I thought Naruto was great, then I watched Death Note and I thought that was even better then I watched Monster and I was like
this is even better. But when I got into Bleach and I was like "this is friggin awesome" but others were like "nah Bleach sucks"
that was when I thought "who cares if it is popular or critically acclaimed. If I enjoy it then that's all that matters."
At the same time I've always wanted to draw comics but originally I wanted to draw a newspaper funny like Calvin and Hobbes
but with manga and anime it showed that comics and cartoons do not have to be funny all the time nor do they have to be serious
all the time and I feel like Dragon Ball was a great example of that. It might not have influenced me as a kid but it does influence
me as an adult in writing my own comics in that I really appreciate Toriyama's unconventional storytelling. It's crazy and brilliant.
I think if anyone else is making their own comics and yes the struggle is real I think they should remember Toriyama's words:
"It's nice that aspiring manga authors are influenced by their favorite authors, but I'd like them to have pride and add a little originality that only they can provide.”
    RIP Akira Toriyama.

Thank you sir, Akira Toriyama Sensei for injecting the eternal bliss of into us.
