Many of the spells he went to Wizard for are in the Artificier spell list, but it takes longer to get them. Fly at 9th level Artificer instead of 5th level Wizard, and Fabricate at 13th level Artificier instead of 7th level Wizard. With the Eberron rule I'd make him an Artillerist but Battle Smith might be more appropriate for Iron Man and Artillerist for Warmachine. 1st level still has to be Fighter, you will still want 2 levels for War Magic Wizard. You might want more Wizard levels but I don't think you need as many with the new Artificer rules and you are going to want as many infusions as possible (5) so I wouldn't do more than 5th level wizard so you can go 14th level Artificer to get it. With only 2 levels in Wizard though you can get to 17th level Artificer and have access to all the Artillerist or Battlesmith spells, 5th level Artificer spells, but are still limited to 5 infusions.
get an inteligent armor thing as an companion so whenever you need armor you just call him and since some of those things can actually talk to you name him jarvis or friday then artillerist bam
@@firstnamelastname7298 well one thing I was considering is a DM could rule that a Battlesmith's Steel Defender could be instead worn by the Artificer and stack the stats and grant a bonus action (as it normally counts as it's own turn anyways). That way your Artificer basically gets a power armor.
12:55 Aid is actually much better than that. It doesn't grant temporary hit points, it increases the targets maximum hit points, so it can stack with temp hp and you can heal those hit points back after you take damage. Second, it doesn't require concentration. It just straight up increases your hit point maximum for 8 hours, no risk of it getting lost or preventing you from casting other concentration spells.

Back in the early 80's, I got the idea of creating a "Superhero" kind of world in D&D. For this, I created a giant city that was kind of like the D&D version of New York, or Chicago, and me and my friends created rules to cover D&D superhero creation. The superheros created were all these awesome superhero spins on fantasy characters. We had "The Iron Knight", who was this guy in magic armor and a magic sword that could do cool things. The sword turned into a rusty, old dagger when not in use. The character would say the magic words while holding the dagger, and it would turn into this awesome sword and he would be encased in armor. There was an acrobat archer with all these amazing magic arrows. There were several fantasy superheroes that we created. We had all kinds of wacky medieval supervillain characters in the city as well.
I'd love to see this updated with 2019 Artificer Battle Master. It really fix the guy who makes weapons. And the assuming your DM is not completely by the rules, you can probably reflavor your dog companion as a less high-tech suit.
Why not take the warcaster feat ? Gives you advantage on your concentration saving throw (a.k.a. your fly for example) And allow you to cast a 1 action spell as a reaction for when an attack of opportunity occurs
i would argue building the character as a warforged instead of a human. yes you dont get the heavy armor master feat until much later, but it does mean you can always have free heavy armor and always look like the iron man suit.
I know I'm a bit late to the party but please for the love of all that's holy - tell your GM :) I expect he/she won't have a problem with it (because you all want to do it), but would appreciate to know whether or not you want to play it 1-to-1 or want to fit it into the high fantasy world :) It's so much easier to GM for people who know what they want out of the game and openly talks about it, rather than hiding it because they think the GM has their own plans... Well I mean, sure we do have our own plans sometimes, but what good is that if it conflicts with what our players want to do?! :P

Wis 8 Not only does the Arc Reactor restore Con, but it gives Tony increased mental capacities, like Increased Learning Speed, 3 standard actions per turn, Intelligence based abilities (Not spell-like abilities).
My idea for playing Tony Stark in the Eberron setting was making him of a prominent member of House Cannith known for his playboy tendencies and creating extremely advanced warforged during The Last War. Eventually he was kidnapped and his soul was forcibly transferred to an unfinished prototype he’d been working on in secret. Lacking many critical functions and in a state of constant pain for months on end, he eventually outwitted his captors, finished the prototype that had become his body, and broke out. Now he seeks to improve human-warforged relations, end his Houses warmongering ways- and find out who had him kidnapped, and why they were using his tech. Not really a full build, just a cool backstory with a bit of Silver Age craziness and some Fullmetal Alchemist style body horror. There’s a lot of places I’d like to take this campaign-wise (who’s Eberron’s equivalent of the Mandarin? Is Ultron the Lord of Blades?) but one of the bigger questions is whether or not Eberron Tony can eventually go between his warforged and human body. Maybe the DM’s okay with it, and Tony can use his human body for a limited time before his soul starts disintegrating. That’d be a good way to incorporate the “Iron Man is my bodyguard” cover story from the comics, and would make for some fun roleplay. Or he could just be stuck in his warforged body, and both him and House Cannith would have to deal with that. Honestly I’m fine with either one. It’s just a cool idea I had and after writing it down I really want to try it out.
I’d really love to see Tulok redo this. Now that Artificer has been made official _and_ has gotten some new official subclasses (**wink wink** ARMORER **wink wink** ).

Correction for your statement at 10:20. Artificers are ½ casters, not ¼ casters. So they're on par with Paladins and Rangers. Arcane Tricksters and Eldridge Knights are also not ¼ casters, as they get a caster level every 3 levels, not 4.
I miss the days when every character class couldn't do everything... They've definitely taken the 'Role' out of Role Playing (or at the least, greatly reduced its relevance).
@@SBaby they can't tho. None of those classes come close to the utility of a caster class. Bards, wizards, clerics, warlocks, and sorcerers are way better caster some of them have melle subclasses as well but none of them are as good as a melee main class. Everyone still has a role the game is just not making the roles so black and white.
Well, then 'greatly reduced its relevance' would apply in this case. I haven't played anything past Third Edition, mainly because of the fact that current Editions really coddle players.

for the cons low wisdom there are books to raise it by 2 and armor can be modded with padding so it doesn't make noise. and if he's doing that there are other mods like masterwork and armor proofing great vid Turlok
I think eldritch knight all the way is perfect for him and AL Legal as he gets heavy armor proficiency and still be able to cast evocation and abjuration spells- which is all the suit just do, then get fly spell whenever your eldritch knight level permits you. You could also get the magic initiate feat and grab eldritch blast cantrip so that at higher levels, your attacks can target multiple units rather than 1 with the firebolt cantrip
Older edition, but back when the Warlock first came out in 3.5 I made a Warforged Warlock with the Adamantine Body feat and named him Stony Tark, code name Adamantine Bro. Warlock already had most of the iconic Iron Man abilities built in (unlimited energy blasts from the hands, flight, HUD (via detect invocations) and then adamantine warforged filled in for the armor part.
Michael Haneline, I did the same thing, too. Warlock was the absolute best go to for building any superhero. My ‘forged was named 6, and he took a Vow of Poverty.
Just recently found your playlist for these videos if you can't tell but the craft skill blacksmith armor because remember he was building in his dad's garage when he was just a kid so since his dad would create things he was creating stuff with his dad as a child allow it as part of the flavor of the backstory in my opinion

I love this build!! I really struggled with iron man. Going mostly war wizard is a fantastic idea, im totes stealing if i ever get to play an iron man char xP First i thought eldritch knight but that really doesn't fit all that well, and I prefer to stay away from artificer wherever possible due to balance and the "constantly being changed" thing. (i think you haven't touched mystic yet. that's a whole other can of worms). So I'd do away with artificer entirely, and just go 19 war mage. Warforged Envoy for proficiencies and maximum AC. Just sub find familiar, create homunculus and magnificent mansion for the bots. I mean, you get Sunbeam aka Unibeam! Btw soz for the spam xD im binging. Episode 5 of the Fire Emblem stats: Tony Stark. As a man of science that uses a mech suit that flies, Iron Man's greatest strengths are in reason, heavy armor, and flight, with a budding talent for authority because he's usually a leader in Avengers situations. His magic, speed, and charm are his strongest stats and none of his other stats are bad.
Would this basically be how to do Dr Doom as well? I've been looking for a decent way to translate him to dnd and realistically this seems like a way to do that
@@lastyrsman Doom is pleased with this suggestion. Also fitting as he has a tendency for the darker side of magic. Fiend Pact probably, with it being flavored as a bunch of minor demons he has dupped and manipulated instead of one big one.
Another reason to take Darkvision spell is because of the second part of Goggles of Night. "While wearing these dark lenses, you have darkvision out to a range of 60 feet. If you already have darkvision, wearing the goggles increases its range by 60 feet." So you can cast it on yourself if you need to extent your night vision to 120 feet.
To cast detect magic on a creature you gotta be able to touch them for ten full minutes... imagine Tony saying this xP hey, I'm gonna touch you for 10 minutes... kay then xD
Wizards of the Coast have released a new version of the Unearthed Arcana Artificer. It's a complete overhaul of the previous release. If you're multiclassing into Wizard and want to keep the robotic companion described in this video, you'll want to pick the Battle Smith specialist subclass when fleshing out your own Tony Stark. Otherwise, go for the Artillerist which will get you some of the spells such as thunderwave and scorching ray described in this video (though at a slower place than if you multiclass in wizard), and build an autonomous, static turret gun.

Hey thanks, welcome to the party pal! I honestly hadn't though of paladin, that could work very well. Originally I was thinking maybe a Forge cleric, but Wisdom is definitely his lowest soft stat, so any cleric levels are kind of out.

Scott Huff main reason to choose fighter is probably defense fighting style at level 1, then you can just do a single level dip and not lose too much spell progression. Considering my Stark would go 19 wizard for 9th level meteor swarm where he literally summons drones from space. And Stark isn’t all that into gods, so there’s that too!
Tony used the mind stone to finish Ultron (the part that messed him up) because he was mind warped by Wanda. His idea for Ultron was a precaution because he knew aliens would invade again and he was right and no one listened, so saying his wisdom is a dump stat because of that is kinda eh. You could have used "I have a plan: attack" as an argument for that.
So I recently started using this in a campaign. Or at least, a modified version. Basically the same build (at least, as far as I've gotten) except instead of human, I took warforged. The original idea was to build him based on Iron Giant, though obviously he's not multiple stories tall. So I took soldier as an origin (or whatever) and gave him a proficiency in animal handling, and now he's basically bastion (kinda) from overwatch.
It's the joke that people want you to redo this build with the new Artificer stuff, especially since Armourer came out. However, this feels really creative and distinct from what you later did with War Machine. I won't lie that I'd be interested to see what you would do if you rebuilt Iron Man using TCoE version of Artillerist, but I think it would end up about the same as this anyway Also, can I please find a DM that would just be cool with a character that's smart enough creating mech suits? If I have several relevant tool proficiencies, access to highly rare materials, knowledge of the arcane and friends with arcane abilities, and a year of in-game time making very good tool and skill checks I feel like I should be able to slowly have a character become Adamantine Man

Out of curiosity, now that the UA Artificer lacks the Thunder Cannon, what would you recommend as the build now? Given it has Medium Armor to start, would it make sense to take Variant Human (Heavily Armored) and skip the Fighter Level? And between Battlesmith or Armor Master, which do you think fits better? Honestly the former makes me think of one of Tony's own machines he made like the arm from Iron Man 1, while the latter you covered. I'd have also suggested the Archivest for JARVIS/FRIDAY action, but that might not work as well
Variant Human with the Magic Initiate: Warlock feat to get the Eldritch Blast cantrip, which is a beam of force damage. (Pretty much a dead ringer for a repulsor blast.) Plus you get another Warlock cantrip and lvl 1 spell of your choice.
The fact that the cons are the same cons that Tony Stark has means this build is perfect.
That's why he mentioned them. There are plenty more cons to this build which don't align with favour

@@SBaby they can't tho. None of those classes come close to the utility of a caster class. Bards, wizards, clerics, warlocks, and sorcerers are way better caster some of them have melle subclasses as well but none of them are as good as a melee main class. Everyone still has a role the game is just not making the roles so black and white.

Well, then 'greatly reduced its relevance' would apply in this case. I haven't played anything past Third Edition, mainly because of the fact that current Editions really coddle players.
But Iron Man would still be Chaotic Neutral in earlier Editions. If you go by the current Marvel Comics, he should be by all rights jibbering insane.

for the cons low wisdom there are books to raise it by 2 and armor can be modded with padding so it doesn't make noise. and if he's doing that there are other mods like masterwork and armor proofing great vid Turlok
I think eldritch knight all the way is perfect for him and AL Legal as he gets heavy armor proficiency and still be able to cast evocation and abjuration spells- which is all the suit just do, then get fly spell whenever your eldritch knight level permits you. You could also get the magic initiate feat and grab eldritch blast cantrip so that at higher levels, your attacks can target multiple units rather than 1 with the firebolt cantrip

Older edition, but back when the Warlock first came out in 3.5 I made a Warforged Warlock with the Adamantine Body feat and named him Stony Tark, code name Adamantine Bro. Warlock already had most of the iconic Iron Man abilities built in (unlimited energy blasts from the hands, flight, HUD (via detect invocations) and then adamantine warforged filled in for the armor part.
Michael Haneline, I did the same thing, too. Warlock was the absolute best go to for building any superhero. My ‘forged was named 6, and he took a Vow of Poverty.
Just recently found your playlist for these videos if you can't tell but the craft skill blacksmith armor because remember he was building in his dad's garage when he was just a kid so since his dad would create things he was creating stuff with his dad as a child allow it as part of the flavor of the backstory in my opinion

I love this build!! I really struggled with iron man. Going mostly war wizard is a fantastic idea, im totes stealing if i ever get to play an iron man char xP First i thought eldritch knight but that really doesn't fit all that well, and I prefer to stay away from artificer wherever possible due to balance and the "constantly being changed" thing. (i think you haven't touched mystic yet. that's a whole other can of worms). So I'd do away with artificer entirely, and just go 19 war mage. Warforged Envoy for proficiencies and maximum AC. Just sub find familiar, create homunculus and magnificent mansion for the bots. I mean, you get Sunbeam aka Unibeam! Btw soz for the spam xD im binging. Great channel, and thanks for responding to my many comments :P

Dr Doom should lean a little heavier on the spells though. Maybe swap out some artificer levels for more wizard levels.

Another reason to take Darkvision spell is because of the second part of Goggles of Night.
"While wearing these dark lenses, you have darkvision out to a range of 60 feet. If you already have darkvision, wearing the goggles increases its range by 60 feet."
So you can cast it on yourself if you need to extent your night vision to 120 feet.
To cast detect magic on a creature you gotta be able to touch them for ten full minutes... imagine Tony saying this xP hey, I'm gonna touch you for 10 minutes... kay then xD

Wizards of the Coast have released a new version of the Unearthed Arcana Artificer. It's a complete overhaul of the previous release.
If you're multiclassing into Wizard and want to keep the robotic companion described in this video, you'll want to pick the Battle Smith specialist subclass when fleshing out your own Tony Stark.
Otherwise, go for the Artillerist which will get you some of the spells such as thunderwave and scorching ray described in this video (though at a slower place than if you multiclass in wizard), and build an autonomous, static turret gun.

I know I'm late to the party, but doesn't a couple levels of Paladin to solve a lot of the problems more efficiently? The only big drop I'm seeing is the dex save. But I'd wager a spell exists to solve that issue.

Hey thanks, welcome to the party pal! I honestly hadn't though of paladin, that could work very well. Originally I was thinking maybe a Forge cleric, but Wisdom is definitely his lowest soft stat, so any cleric levels are kind of out.

Scott Huff main reason to choose fighter is probably defense fighting style at level 1, then you can just do a single level dip and not lose too much spell progression. Considering my Stark would go 19 wizard for 9th level meteor swarm where he literally summons drones from space. And Stark isn’t all that into gods, so there’s that too!
Tony used the mind stone to finish Ultron (the part that messed him up) because he was mind warped by Wanda. His idea for Ultron was a precaution because he knew aliens would invade again and he was right and no one listened, so saying his wisdom is a dump stat because of that is kinda eh. You could have used "I have a plan: attack" as an argument for that.
So I recently started using this in a campaign. Or at least, a modified version. Basically the same build (at least, as far as I've gotten) except instead of human, I took warforged. The original idea was to build him based on Iron Giant, though obviously he's not multiple stories tall. So I took soldier as an origin (or whatever) and gave him a proficiency in animal handling, and now he's basically bastion (kinda) from overwatch.
It's the joke that people want you to redo this build with the new Artificer stuff, especially since Armourer came out. However, this feels really creative and distinct from what you later did with War Machine. I won't lie that I'd be interested to see what you would do if you rebuilt Iron Man using TCoE version of Artillerist, but I think it would end up about the same as this anyway
Also, can I please find a DM that would just be cool with a character that's smart enough creating mech suits? If I have several relevant tool proficiencies, access to highly rare materials, knowledge of the arcane and friends with arcane abilities, and a year of in-game time making very good tool and skill checks I feel like I should be able to slowly have a character become Adamantine Man

The Cleric of the Forge would be great. Magic item (Armor) Heavy Armor to begin with. Add in Warlock for Eldritch Blast and a few spells (Fly)

Out of curiosity, now that the UA Artificer lacks the Thunder Cannon, what would you recommend as the build now? Given it has Medium Armor to start, would it make sense to take Variant Human (Heavily Armored) and skip the Fighter Level? And between Battlesmith or Armor Master, which do you think fits better? Honestly the former makes me think of one of Tony's own machines he made like the arm from Iron Man 1, while the latter you covered. I'd have also suggested the Archivest for JARVIS/FRIDAY action, but that might not work as well

Variant Human with the Magic Initiate: Warlock feat to get the Eldritch Blast cantrip, which is a beam of force damage. (Pretty much a dead ringer for a repulsor blast.) Plus you get another Warlock cantrip and lvl 1 spell of your choice.
