Hi. I've used that joinery on red maple corners, and yes it's quite strong enough for most applications. I found that in the drilling of the work piece, a sacrificial board clamped at breakthrough keeps it clean on both sides.
    Good vid.

Great technique J. I know that will be VERY strong. I have a mitered box that I glued up with NO reenforcemnt 27 years ago and it's still VERY strong. This technique you're using should last for generations...very nice.

Good work. I like the corner form jigs and the dowel jigs. Because of the angle of the dowel grain, the pattern blends in quite well with the grain of the box structure. I wonder how much extra strength the dowels provide? If the glue bond is as strong as, or stronger than the wood itself, it would be surprisingly little extra strength. Then the strength would be provided mainly by the excellent bond brought about by the well-constructed corner clamp jigs. Thank you for sharing your excellent video. 👍

I will try your method of making dowels. Although i suspect it might be hard to get them to exactly the right size. If i can master it though it would be the fastest and simplest way i can find to make them.
    Thanks 👍
