    As A 2001 Prowler Owner I Can Tell You That If You Power Break This Thing On Blacktop You Will Smoke Those Oversize Tires , From A Dead Stop Also On Blacktop You Might Get Some Wheel Spin On (To The Floor) Acceleration Plus A Wheel Chirp Going Into 2nd Gear. That Being Said Remember That This Is A 2900lb, Car So It Is Accelerating At A Fast Rate. Now With The Indy Style Suspension And The Front And Rear Weight racial The Posted Curve Speed Is Just A Suggestion (Baring Any Tar Snakes Or Uneven Road Surface) You Can Easly Take That Curve At Twice The Suggested Speed ( It's A Real Rush ) The Exhaust Sound Is Not Your Run Of The Mill V6 Sound No It Will Not Sound Like A V8 But Respectable. Would I Rather Have A Big Block 4 Speed With Open Headers? But My Prowler Did Colect 11 Trophies Last Year At Car Shows

    This car an awesome testemant to Chrysler corporation's confidence in what they were doing. I don't remember the other two domestic automakers bringing as many iconic vehicles to market during this period.
    The Prowler is definitely a unique car that's a keeper. As a matter of fact, it's so visually striking that it did not "need" a V8 engine.
    Awesome car...

      Thanks, it is a dream car for me, but if it DID have a V-8, it would have a rocking sound to it too!!

    Love it. Always have. V6 works fine for me. Get it serviced at my local Dodge/Chrysler shop. Battery needs to be in the trunk on the passengers side.

    I like that little strip of road north of the county line between Malibu and Ventura there are still bits of the old road going around that big rock. It seems like a car company favorite place to film. Mother in Law still lives in Malibu Park after the Woolsly fire burned her house and it took forever to rebuild due to red tape from the city and the coastal commission . We got Married at Zuma in 82 and we are still together .

    Plymouth Prowler was a heck of a showcase for lightweight materials technology, including: A lightweight aluminum body structure with full-perimeter frame made of aluminum castings and extrusions and featuring innovative self-piercing rivet and adhesive bonding techniques for critical joints. Body panels made of a brand-new at the time , 6022 aluminum alloy that broke new ground in strength and formability. Other body panels were made of a new SMC (sheet molding composite) that is lighter and more flexible than conventional SMC material. Aluminum suspension components made with a new semi-solid forging process that produces engineering properties that were formerly unheard of for such parts. A giant magnesium instrument panel support structure that not only saved weight but consolidates parts which cuts assembly costs. Aluminum composite brake rotors that are half the weight of conventional cast iron.

    Got a 00 black one with the aftermarket hardtop. The hardtop completely changes the look of it. I bought mine because it's not one of the thousands of corvettes, mustangs, challengers, cameros you see everyday. They don't even stand out anymore. It's fun to drive and unique. I got rid of those horrible hard as concrete run flat tires, and the original sway bar. Installed sound deadening throughout the inside and trunk. Removed the front bumpers and had the paint corrected and ceramic coated. Just hit 6000 miles on it. Took 20 years for me to save up enough money to buy it. I believe I will be buried in it lol. Much love coming from the Fresno, CA area!

    They do look good.I think there are a couple of easy upgrades to make them a little peppier , like a "tune" ,easy rear end gear swap with a speedo fix.

    • @brutus522399
      @brutus522399 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did the gear swap and had EU reprogrammed gaining around 30 more HP. Replaced sway bar with 'wonder bar' and also the air intake. The thing rips off the line and solid chirps in second - all while on auto. ;)

    Great video! 5.5-5.7secs 0-60 (many publications had it in that range)wasn’t slow in 1999-2002. It was on par or faster than the mustang gt, eclipse,3000 GT, Supra, Porsche Boxster, bmw z3, Audi tt,.

    I had one for 2 yrs the attention it got here in the streets of Brooklyn was incredible , but with a lower bad back and the ride quality I let it go but miss all that attention ! will probaly never own another car that unique , ended up with a black SLK55 another rare car little more practical with a trunk and hard top convertible and V8 but nothing will match the Prowler look !

  • @jeffreyscott5799
    @jeffreyscott5799 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The ride quality greatly improves if you remove the run-flats and put regular tires on. I put Michelin pilots on my 99, and that helped a little, now I have continentals on, much improved

    El Matador Beach is absolutely lovely. Lived in Laguna Beach in the hills for about a year, we’d go down the hill and I think it was like a 5 minute drive once we turned on PCH. I will always have a love for S Cali./Orange County! Such beautiful places all around you wen one lives there.

    I always like these, new school rat rod vibe. I had a Dodge Magnum with that 3.5L and was always impressed with its get up for its weight, I think its great for that little car! I cant afford a crazy fast car on retired veteran pay so when i want to go fast i hope on my EBR 1190 lol but like you said, that thing is great for cruising the coastline, ty for the video Sir

    It's too bad they never created an SRT6 version of the car, turbocharged. If I had one, I would have to take the front bumper off, and maybe the back bumper too. Looks great in black.

    Hey man, great report on an often-maligned car! Yeah, yeah, Chrysler *should* have put a V-8 in it, blah blah blah - you know they probably tried every way possible and just figured that it was non-feasible. Like they did with that stupid PT Cruiser, where you have to remove the engine just to change the water pump - yikes! So the Prowler got stuck with a V-6. if only they had waited a few years. My 2014 Chrysler 200 has a friggin' DOHC 3.6 V-6! A what? Anyway...
    Oh, by the way, not to be pedantic, but in their 1962 song, "409," the Beach Boys were probably singing about a car, not the engine in particular. Both Chevy and Ford had 409 cu. in. engines, but Chevy actually called their high-performance Impala model the "SS 409."

    Low miles isn't always good. It means it's been sitting for a long time. All the rubber parts at this point would need to be replaced. Tires, timing belt, ball joints etc. Anything rubber would have dry rot by then. Also remember parts are not made anymore so very hard to find.

    Put sts turbos on that v6 and it has the really sleeper effect. Also put a good brand of adjustable shocks that you can make them softer. Still my dream car. I didn't car that it has a v6.

    I hate the constant harping about not having a V-8. Blah blah blah. Sure, let's just ADD WEIGHT to please the punters... And it wouldn't be that much faster. And even more expensive, when Chrysler had plenty of V-6, and the V-8s were truck lumps.

      I checked out his review. He was driving the Prowler on back roads and of course it was bouncy. The front end doesn't have a chance to soften out the bumps, but on a smooth road like many California highways, the car rides and handles pretty well. Thanks for checking out my channel. More videos to come.
