- John O’Donohue, is a poet, philosopher former priest and a doctor of philosophical theology. John left this plane 15 years ago but as his brother Pat wrote: “His life cannot be encompassed within the one act of birth, life and death.” Our conversation about his book Beauty, invites us to attain new heights of passion and creativity.
Every word from his mouth drips like nectar from a flower. What Holy Beautiful Wisdom!
I couldn't agree more!
14:02 (he speaks about reverence)
“ I think there is a huge arrogance in contemporary culture. I think there is a kind of belief that we can blunder into and beyond any frontier with no preparation, no permission and no recognition of what might await us. I think that one of the things that we have lost in modern life is the reverence of approach because some of the most secret things are the most sacred things. And if you don’t approach with reverence, it will decide not to approach you. I think reverence is a profound sense of respect, expectation and preparation. And I think that if you have that kind of attitude, you’ll be amazed at what will turn up at the door of your life.”
Musica, you are a very deep soul. Honored how you got into our conversation, Barry
@@BarryKibrickOfficial I can’t fathom why John O’Donahue is not more widely known. Surely everyone who comes into contact with his work benefits enormously from it.
How did I miss this beautiful encounter of wisdom? This has to be what we all move towards in our combative societies. This interview deserves millions of followers so we can begin to move the needle towards virtue in our world. Thank you
Your kind words made my day! Thank you for taking the time to write, Barry
this conversation is something that I will return, over and over again
So glad you enjoyed!
I’m so thrilled to discover this interview with someone whose books I continue to read and re-read! What a gift this is to hear him in conversation. I use as a mantra an idea I got from reading this book Beauty, that beauty leads to courage and courage leads to hope.
I love that he says to you,
“The intention of the aesthetic, and the spiritual and the creative is to help us come into that sanctuary as frequently as we can. And everyone has it. That’s the magic of it.”
So thrilled you enjoyed Musica. Please also check out my conversation with Mike Farrell about John's book, "To Bless the Space Between Us." Take care, Barry

Wanted to hear John more. Interviewer talked so fast that it took away ‘ the beauty’. Americans can do that 😢

Miles Davis once spoke of the silence between the notes as essential!
So true. Mozart said something very similiar.
I am going to John for the words regarding my exhibition of Paintings.
Just found you -- wonderful. I will be following you.
I'm so glad you did JC. Take care, Barry
I can NEVER EVER get through “I am here Lord” I cry like a deep cry very emotional since as long as I can remember even as a very young girl sitting in church before I really understood my faith I knew what I felt listening to that hymn💖🙏🏻
I understand completely. My world was completely beautified as a very young girl listening in church to the Methodist hymns almost 60 years ago. Thankyou so very much for the memory.
amazing except for the reagan funeral :)
What an amazing conversation and what an amazing program. I didn't know it existed until I stumbled onto it here. Please post more of these programs. We need them desperately.
The Holy Spirit in your life is never late or never early. You just gotta keep your heart silent so you can hear the music.

This is so beautiful! Do you know where I can find the Bill Stafford quote?
Philbert, thank you for the kind words. I looked through my notes and can't see where Bill Stafford is mentioned. If you can find it on the video and can let me know the time I will try to track it down. Barry
Around 15:00. ' the things you do not have to say make you rich...'. Amazing interview.

I pray to John. He now knows my story because I'm sure he's in heaven. May the Lord have mercy on his gorgeous soul.
🤯 I was thinking about grace, gratefulness and reverence. All three. Just now! Then I look up beauty on youtube and I find this video? Good God!🤯🤯🤯
Perfect timing!

An honor and a privilege. You're very welcome!
Wonderful.
Gone too soon (for those still here)
My goodness
Barry why in the world didn’t you let John read his poetry? What a missed opportunity. 🙁
I would always let John Read his poetry but this time he wanted to discuss his book Beauty.
@@BarryKibrickOfficial I think she means at the end, instead of you reading his writing. I was pleased to come across this. I thought I had heard every interview he has done, and then I discovered this when I most needed to hear it.
