To be fair, with Corman himself being a consultant on this show, I think it was supposed to be *more* based on the 1960 movie...unfortunately, the '86 Movie was so popular, that it couldn't be avoided here.
It's based on the 1960 Roger Corman movie, not the 1986 movie adaptation of the 1982 musical, which they couldn't get the rights to. You may have noticed, there is no Orin, or Urchins, Audrey is a brunette instead of a blonde, there are no songs or melodies from the musical, the plant is called Audrey Junior instead of Audrey II, and it comes from a seed instead of outer space.
Haha this cartoon is great. If you’ve ever seen the original Roger Corman movie there are heaps of cool references in this, from the cartoons art style looking like the drawings in the movies opening credits to the guy in the shop who eats flowers. It’s also great how it’s implied in this that Audrey jr eats people (he tries to eat people several times but doesn’t succeed). If you have t seen the Corman original I strongly suggest you do and then come back to watch this.
The original is still a very funny movie. It has a few parts that don't work or are kind of slow, but it's overall a very enjoyable film. Wish more fans of the musical would give it a watch.
You guys know that a divergence from a source material isn’t a reason to hate something? I really enjoy both this and the movie. It’s not a crime to make some changes, otherwise what would the point of an adaptation be?
Yeah, I agree. It’s not like the 1986 version was the original either. However, I will say that I don’t think making a kids cartoon from a movie like Little Shop of Horrors was a good idea to begin with. But the execution isn’t THAT bad.

Wasn't the plant from Outer Space? 6.) Why is Audrey so different from her character in the movie? 7.) Didn't Seymour own the shop and not "Audrey's dad"? 8.) Didn't they name to the plant Audrey 2, not Audrey Junior? 9.)Why does Audrey 2 have eyes now? 10.) Did the writers of the show even see the movie?
Also, didn't the plant want to concure the world, multiply and devour all of humanity instead of returning home, only to decide to live with a 13 year old nerd in secret?
one more, why is this "Pain Driller" the bully and the romantic rival of Seymour instead of "Cecil the Lion" who actually "dated 👊" Audrey in the movie
This isn’t actually awful, for what it is. It’s main crime is existing, really. A Saturday morning cartoon based off a film that is very much NOT for a Saturday morning cartoon audience is a crap idea in itself.
