This is the motorcycle that started it all! This Yamaha XS650 is how I met my friend Howard Douglas Dorris the first, and became fast friends. We take it for a ride and stumble on a cruise night. So sit back and enjoy a great motorcycle and some cool cars.

As long as you keep telling his stories your friend will never really be gone
I agree. You only die, when people stop talking about you. Thanks for watching.
The XS 650 has always been one of my favourite bikes, looks as good today as it did in the 70s....
Such cool motorcycles. Thanks for watching.
I've been riding an XS650 for over 40 years. I did a 300 mile loop on one last weekend, and 150 miles yesterday. Been out and about on it today as well. I own five of them, one since new. Yeah, it's a disease. Greetings from Mississippi.
Hold on where in Mississippi are you I am in Slidell, LA
I wanted one of these so bad in the early 70s. Hearing it makes me realize I gotta get one.
They are awesome. I have a friend that is selling a 1975 xs650 now.
The weather here in Michigan is wonderful, but I'm too sick to ride and stuck on the couch. (I never get sick, ugh!) - But thanks to you, I got to ride along on a Yamaha XS650 and see some cool ass cars! Although I'm a Honda guy, that Yamaha XS650 is a classic beauty!
Thanks so much for watching. I really appreciate it.
In 1991 I had a '79 XS650 - bought with flames on both sides of petrol tank and a Mexican under a sombrero on top of the tank. Sold it to finance my pending overseas trip.
I really missed the character of this bike. Last year I bought a Kawasaki w800 because it reminded me of this bike.
(the wife of the guy I sold it to made him paint over the murals 😂😂 )
That tank mural sounds awesome.
I totally agree with you on that 1975 tank. I had an original 75 650 with that tank. Out of all the bikes I had, that is the one I most wish I had kept(also a 77 RM250).
Ironically, the only bike I wished I had back was the bike I mentioned in this episode. Thanks for watching.
Excellent bikes , had a 74 and an 81. Can’t beat the sound of that motor.
You are so right. They just fell and sound right. Thanks for watching.
i loves my 75 xs650
Such great motorcycles. Thanks for watching.
Yoda Yamaha FTW!! Also That Blue/White Ford Truck, OOoo LALA! Thanks for the "Ride" Eric!
I'm donating "A Dalla a Day" for every Video a day in May. (@ $4 but I will catch up)
Challenge anyone?
I see a Goldwing (or 2?) in our future! 😁
That ole truck was awesome. Thanks so much for your support. It means a lot.
Excellent thank you
Thanks for watching.
That XS650 would be just as cool if not cooler than my 1980 mint xs11 Special was.
I love all the XS650’s some more than others. 🤣Thanks for watching.
I have a Yamaha 78 XS 650 special too. It needs a little tlc.
They all need a little TLC. Just Don’t go chasing waterfalls!🤣
Yes I loved my 650 Special 1981 Burgundy with gold lettering
I liked that color combo. Thanks for watching.
I had a '72 XS 650. Nice bike . Great sounding 360 degree crank . But it was a slow pig . Needed that aftermarket big bore kit .
I had an XS2. It was such a great bike. Loads of fun to ride. Here is a video featuring it. th-cam.com/video/fnW8xPK2B1c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=F5ZfGqzJDMGsc8VT
when a carb over flows shut peacock off keep engine running until it runs out turn peacock back on that washes out the needle and seat HAPPY TRAILS
It seemed to clear itself out. Stopped leaking. Thanks for watching.
One of the best tank designs ever in my opinion, along with the European spec RD250/350B. I noticed the headlight is a bit out of alignment, that will give an interesting pattern on the road.
It needs a little tlc from top to bottom. Thanks for watching.
That tank looks great.
Definitely my favorite. Thanks for watching.
Nice classic 👌 👍 ❤
Yes it is. Thanks for watching.
Some people call them the japanese Bonneville
Sounds about right except the oil stay inside the engine.🤣🤣🤣Thanks for watching.
If there is no oil under it there is no oil in it.
You touched on a really good point, the handing of stories, legends, information etc from our elders to the younger members of society. I can’t help but worry there are plenty of the former, but too few of the latter to carry this very important tradition on. Will the iPhone generation step up and take over, or will the tradition die? Will the iPhone enhance the tradition, or not? Does anyone care these days? Love the XS.
We have to all do our part to move these stories forward.
Didn't know you were in Louisiana. I"m in the Lake Charles area, what area are you in?
I’m on the other side, in Slidell. Thanks for watching.
Just my opinion. Motor wise best twin cilinder motors ever build. Specialy ftom 78 /82 almost bullit proof. Looks wise, 1969 up to 74 best looking bikes. After that it went slowly
downhill looks wise. I own a 82 ... not original but i would not want a original one from that year. Its the most ugly version of the xs line. This year i am gonna get mine back from rebuild into a european style chopper 70,s chopper
Hardtails were almost unknown then. So slightly adapted drame. Does have a badass springer fork tho. . What ever you make of a bike. Original or a wierd ass freak . As long as ye stay on the road with a smile riding it who gives a rats ass what it looks like.
I agree. It’s your bike. Who cares what anyone other than you thinks about it. Thanks for watching.
Is that a rear tubed wheel and a front tubeless wheel?
Yes. The original spoke wheel was crushed and this is what we found in the barn. Thanks for watching. My son in law will decide if he wants another mag or spoke rim. Thanks for watching.
Did you put the headlight in crooked ???
One of the things that’s on the to do list. Thanks for watching.
