My goodness, I am so obsessed with this video! The painting process is so mesmerizing, and the piece is absolutely stunning. Thank you for this gift, Wero! :D
Wow that Indigo is beautiful - as is the art ♥ Also the statement about Van Gogh is true, Lukas is an OLD german company (full brand name is Lukas 1862 which is actually the founding year) and Van Gogh was dutch :)
The Lukas range do not look shiny because they use a vegan binder, so no oxgall, no honey, etc., and a different binder than usual. There is not much difference between the student and 1862 which are their artists range. So the student range is significantly better than most student ranges. Their tube 1862 are probably the most chunky and generous sized of all watercolours so anyone painting large scale would benefit. They are a little more opaque, you could remedy that by adding a little gum arabic while painting. The pigments they use are good.
Does Lukas paint hold up well in the sun? I know it can't hold up too well because it's on the cheaper side but I wouldn't like my paintings to completely fade either
Lukas watercolors are great, especialy the student range. The artist colors (Lukas 1862) are good, too, but qualitywise, there are better paints available now for that kind of money. But the student watercolors by Lukas are awesome, I find that they are amongst the best that you can get for that price. And they are pretty similar to the artist colors. The reason they are so matte, by the way, is because they add dextrines to the binder (gum arabic) that they use. Dextrines are typically used in watercolors as a filler, and Lukas uses a bit more of them than other quality brands. At least they are honest about it though (they even mention it on their website) and I actually find that much of the charme of the Lukas watercolors comes fom this matte, slightly opaque look. It looks kind of oldfashiond to me, I really like it.
For a mild second I was super intimidated of the flow esp when you right dived in with wet in wet technique, but the end result is just astounding! Lukas isnt my favored brand at all, I do find them a bit dull tbh, but everyone's opinion is different and it means it just doesn't work for me. I really like watching your videos, they are very calming 💚
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! In the video the flow looks more intimidating than in real life! 😆 But it's fine as long as everything is wet you can always lift the color I wasn't scared while I was painting!
bought it now 🤗🤗🤗 i was looking for a watercolor that had great flow/dispersion. I heard that Qor has also nice flow. but its not accessible in my area~~~ loved your painting!♡ i'm continuing my watercolor journey again~
What a lovely review. I did not know these paints would be so nice for their price. The preview image was so beautiful, I stared at the notification email for a minute before clicking :) I liked seeing this wet on wet approach to the portrait, it's a great way to give everything a softer look.
Would you consider review the russian sonnet ones? You can buy just a full pan to check them if needed on Ali.... Love your reviews and never heard of this one and loved to watch it!
I really enjoyed watching the painting process! The paints flowed so smoothly and I think thats one characteristics of watercolor that makes it unique, its something you just have to leave and do what it wants. I especially saw that in this painting. It was really relaxing and it turned out wonderul! Looking forward for future paintings♡♡
Omg their cobalt blue, prussian blue and cyan are so beautiful! I use a professional brand of watercolours, which prussian blue and cobalt blue are really grainy and barely pigmented, and seeing how well these student grade Lukas paints perform amaze me wow!
Ciao Wero! 😘
Wow that portrait looked amazing! How did your lightfast test go for these paints? I had a 12 pan Lukas studio set a long time ago but I was thinking of upgrading to the 24 set but idk if they are the same quality now.
thank you for this video, i've always been wondering if the cotman is a good set to have and seeing this i know for sure i can skip it! now i want the lukas colors instead, they looked great!
Hello, Wero, it's me again. Again, I really love your work! And your review about Lukas studio watercolour also! It made me want to buy it immediately but I guess it also depends on my money also :"D but I truly thank you for making my life happier. You know, I always feel satisfying when you are painting. I love you so much. Hope you'll have nice days. And Indigo is my favourite colour now. Love you.
If you had a small palette at your choice which colours and from what brands would you chose to have and why? I find this would give important info if replied tbh... No need to but I'm curious :) Great work! Love the painting!
Wow, you have some exceptional abilities with watercolour. The sort of review I trust that isn’t by someone who is still at colouring-in level of artistic ability doing swatches.
hello, sister, I watched your drawing videos and I enjoyed it very much. Because I am Vietnamese, the words I use are so wrong that I sympathize! she is very beautiful, especially she describes her face very gently. I hope you will have more videos. She should make some videos about her body with from Switch.
I really love this paint, it's so beautiful and delicate at same time, I bought my watercolor with candy too as soon as I could because of this wonderfull piece! Can you please tell me more about your lightfast test? Thank you so much btw
Oh the first light fast test had positive results! I put the paints under extreme conditions and only four visibly fade but only a little! So they passed the test very well and I use them for my professional paintings! The colours that fade of half a tone were cadmium orange, violet, burnt umber and raw umber! On the others the fading is barely visible! I left them on the roof of my house a whole month in full summer! They were under the strong sun all day! This year I want to make a better test and leave them the whole summer under the sun! And I am going to test all my watercolor together to get the best comparisons!
It's an A4 led light pad that I got from banggood it's pretty cheap and does its job even though with very thick paper it's not very effective! 300gsm is the maximum thickness it can handle!
I have a Lukas set to (16) .theres just one thing that I can claim ,there’s no pretty lime green (I’m working mostly with pastel colors ) sorry for bad English ,I’m german:/
Ugh I'm so mad i wanted to got these but i about accidently got gouache instead i really wanted to continue doing watercolor but stupid me got gouache. So far i kind of really suck at them ;------; I know o around really spoiled and stuff im just dumb
I think this is my favorite painting of yours! The technique you used is really interesting, I'm excited to try it! Also, I have some questions about it (I hope it's not too many! lol): did the paper stay wet through the whole process or did you have to re-wet it? If so, did you use the same brush you used in the beginning (the big one)? Wouldn't that blur the painting that's already there? Do you have any recommendations about where I can learn more about this technique?
The paper will not stay in the same state of wetness you can work maximum an hour until the paper dry! The side of the paper you paint on will dry before the back and the borders of the paper will dry first so I kept wetting the borders with the same brush but I never went over the painting! You can try to rewet everything and make other layers but it wouldn't be an alla prima painting anymore! If you want to keep working on the same painting and do many layers like this you can but you have to tape the paper down! Alla prima means getting something done the first time you do it without overworking things too much! It's a way to make sketches! It's a technique also used with oils working the whole painting with wet paints!
@@weronoyume Thank you so much for answering!!!! I will try it, my only concern about the paper drying is because I live in a hot climate country, so everything dries faster than I would like to (guess the paper also has to do with it, but an upgrade would be too expensive :/). But at the moment we're at our "winter" season, when it rains a lot, so hopefully I get to try this without worrying so much about the paper! It's always nice talking to you, you help me a lot and I'm very thankful for that!
SO DAMN BEAUTIFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL 👏👏 i really like it ❤️❤️... youre a brillant artist✨✨ thats why everybody here likes you ... GREAT JOOOOOOOB ! keep going , cuz you are the best ❤️...
While the Lukas paints do not contain Ox Gall they do contain a synthetic flow agent, they are an excellent student grade paint and a good choice for anyone student or professional.
Sorry girl, but it wasn't a la prima technique, it was more of just wet on wet. Doing a la prima you almost never do the drawing, you straight away start to paint with big flat washes of color, and almost never touch places where you have already painted again.
It Is true that usually the drawing is made directly with the paint, but you can perfectly go over the places you already painted as much as you want! Alla prima Is just a painting painted on wet on wet without waiting for layers to dry! I know masters can achieve great results without going over parts they already painted, but I'm still learning I hope one day to be able to achieve that! Everyone's painting process is different!
@@weronoyume I understand, but still, you in alla prima you can paint on the dry surface, the entire idea of this technique is that you learn something while not spending a lot of time. By the way, the painting is great itself)
van gogh worked with oil paint not watercolor paint , and back then there was no such thing as brands for paint of any sort you made the paint yourself
My goodness, I am so obsessed with this video! The painting process is so mesmerizing, and the piece is absolutely stunning. Thank you for this gift, Wero! :D
Wow that Indigo is beautiful - as is the art ♥

Wow that's so cool! Thank you for the information! 😍
You must have a pretty big collection of watercolors at this point!
Yes, but nobody needs so many! I hope that my reviews can be helpful! I think I have a watercolor addiction! 😆
I would love to see a video of your collection! And hear which are your favourites :D
WeroNoYume i share in your addiction lol

I really like your painting style, it's very soulful
Lukas 1862 watercolors are one of my favorites. I have a 70 pan set and a smaller 20 pan set.
I just love the warmth of the colors in this piece. Her expression is also lovely to look at. Looks so peaceful 💖😍
Thank you! 💕

Lukas’ indigo is my all time favorite watercolor! It blooms beautifully, re-wets instantly and is soooo pigmented! I’m on my third pan of it!
Thank you for showing these paints, they look really nice and fun to play with!
They are! 😍 I could stay hours watching them floating on water! 😆

Yes! 😆
thank you!!!!
How to you stop the colors from going into the highlights on the face? It looks so natural I love how you paint.
You can't stop them but if they go over the highlights you can simply lift the paint from there with a rather dry brush!
@@weronoyume okay, thank you!
Very pretty! She reminds me of Scully from x-files 😅
Thank you for the review, they do look really quite good for a student grade watercolour.
