People. If the Saleen S7 is your dream car. Don't let these issues discourage your dreams. The Dodge Viper was just as much of a pain to live with. But people still dream of owning a blue 2nd Gen Viper with white stripes. S7 might be shitty. But it's the greatest shitty car ever built and I still kill to own one.
My dream car is in fact a blue 2nd gen viper with white stripes, and I know they're a bit rattely and the interior is pretty terrible, but I still want it, lol.
S7 is my dream car too but I mean, I expected these things. America has never been great at that. It's always been, big engine, big power and everything else was 3rd thought and crude

Tyler Black Same. This was my poster car when I was a kid so I'm a lil disappointed. But oh well, at least it still drives like a beast in racing games.
Well, the Countach, Deloreans, and many older Ferraris were also actually complete bastards to drive, or were just plain shit. Sometimes, nostalgic fantasy can be far more appealing than cold hard reality.
Me as well! I had a GTR Racing simulator game with the steering wheel, pedals and the whole nine yards and loved the racing version of the Saleen to death. I still love it. Someday, I'll have one.
Tyler Black Salomondrin has ZERO credibility. Can't take everyone else's word for it. None of that matters, as long as YOU love the car for what it is.
J Hall I got to say, the s7 was a really beautiful proposal back then. For that, i respect the heck out of saleen. Even more so than the companies of today like hennessey.. Why? Because back then it was a REAL challenge to compete with the likes of ferrari and lamborghini. Now everyone is kind of doing the same its just not as a peeling (with some exceptioms of course) Now its so uninspired, some companies just slap a supercharge LS into a bland and unoriginal chassi and call it a day. And brag about being the fastest with a extended lotus chassi. The saleen s7 was original and super gorgeous. It had its own character or quirks and features as doug would said. I personally would put the saleen from back then in the same pedestal with ferrari, lamborghini and porsche.
To your last point Rob, I think a Bugatti/LaFerrari would rent much more than the saleen s7. Perhaps you are right, hyper cars in general don't rent well, but I think the saleen is such a niche car that not everyone is going to know what the hell it is, and a lot of people would rather drive a red ferrari, regardless of if its a 360 or a 488.
Back when he had this car, the laferrari wasn't even out and the veyron was just getting out. The Saleen was one of the fastest production cars at the time.
Every Starbuck has Evian that no one buys, but it is a part of a product line pricing strat that can lure people to spend money on their coffee. The Saleen S7 here might have had similar effects. It's renting price may have provided a psychological marking point that justifies people's cheaper rental. It may have invisibly profited you a lot in these years.
A great car for drivers, does without any eAssistance and demands High Torque... That is what separates real drivers from For-Showers driving Expensive cars... (many BMers, Audis some Porsches and most recently those C63 doing burn outs everywhere.)
I've ridden in this car with Rob. From what I remember engaging the transmission was a fight. I can confirm the pedals were crazy close together. I also seem to recall they changed the clutch a lot. Car looked amazing outside. Inside looked like a cheap kit car.
Who would have guessed that a car where the manufacturer flies the buyer to the factory to custom fit the seats, controls and driving position to wasn't a good rental car? It really seems the company didn't know anything about the car when they bought it for rental. They should have known that it's not suitable for rental
I met Steve Saleen back in the day at a local auto show in my area back in the day, pretty nice guy and the S7 was there. Cool looking car but the quality seemed really bad when you looked at it up close. The one that was there was the same color as yours, I wonder if it was yours?
Bummer bro. I fantasized about this car when it came out. Sounds like an ok track car but no so much on the streets. I'd still like one if I had enough money though. They're gorgeous and as they're like you said Ford parts bins on wheels, not as pricey to fix as an Aston Martin.
Was super stoked that I got to ride in one back in the late 2000s. Despite its problems, this is one of my top 5 dream cars. And yes, I would have rented it. If I had 1500 to throw away on a rental. XD
Turo isn't cheap by any means I've looked. I own a nice Vette already so don't want that. Gotta figure, what would you rent YOUR car for? Not cheap I'm sure.
Why would he say "we" and be talking so much about gotham lately if he isn't associated with them anymore? That'd be free marketing. He still works there, just doesn't film nor store his cars there.

Mansory Bugatti is currently renting In Vegas for either 25 or 30k per day, i don’t know the restrictions or qualifiers. Crazy I wonder how long that company will last. 2 of their supercars were just recently totaled on the strip, apparently they offer a package.
This car is a track car. What this man is saying is that a track car is not a street car. This video is basically click bait in the sense that he's down talking a track ready race car. You don't drive a race car on the street, you drive it on the track. It's unfortunate that this video was made, and was handled in this manner.
I could see that about the Saleen S7, about it being a total PITA to drive in traffic, temperamental, uncomfortable, it was a car made by a very small independent manufacturer who didn't have the resources/engineering talent to figure out things like a good driving position/ergonomics, how to make the clutch light in weight, easy to use but still hold insane power, etc. Reminds me a lot of the Lamborghini Countach in terms of being a PITA to live with, but on the right road it was riot to drive. Once again, small independent company, not a lot of $$$/resources, but the car is so special because it is one man's vision of what a car should be, its uncompromising in the design.
I owned a 97 blue and white GTS that was supercharged. I was on a car cruise and there was an S7. Talk about getting looks. The S7 got the all . The viper got little attention in comparison. Looking back the viper was fun, but after a while it was just too much of a compromise. Fast as all heck, but uncomfortable and hot.

Saleen S7 is basically a road going race car and that's what makes it cool. However that been said, race cars are generally not designed for very big drivers. If you are too tall to comfortably fit behind the wheel, well that sucks but if you can't even fit through the door, you might want to consider losing some weight...
The problems with hypercars is that they're more expensive to buy/rent, they generally aren't as driver friendly leading to a less enjoyable renter experience, and they're not anymore impressive to most people that aren't car people. So if you're out to impress other people a standard $200K ferrari, lamborghini will impress more because they are more recognizable brands.

welcome to 2018... everyone wants traction control, launch control, climate control, Bluetooth stereo, park assist, blind spot sensors, antilock breaks, lumbar support, mirror in the visor (important to look good when doing 100+)... and man does shifting a stiff clutch get old we need auto... I have not had the chance to drive a car like this... but removing all the junk from the vehicle sure makes for a fun ride... eventually you can get so good at driving it that you can make it perform just as good if not better than a car with all the goodies. If you want comfort get a lincoln or caddy. Rob is just stating that from his business stand point the car sucked... too many people whining about it. this comment is not directed to you Rob.
I always heard the twin turbo was so fast the car could literally drive upside down if possible cause of the extreme downforce and the shape of the car... not sure if thats true lol
What my idea was if i could ever afford and s7 was send it to custom race company and have the revamp everything. Fix anything wrong and even improve the car. Granted it would cost 100's of thousands but would be sick.

welcome to 2018... everyone wants traction control, launch control, climate control, Bluetooth stereo, park assist, blind spot sensors, antilock breaks, lumbar support, mirror in the visor (important to look good when doing 100+)... and man does shifting a stiff clutch get old we need auto...
If they had just kept it they would be $250k up, as last one sold for $500k
So you realized we wanna hear about Gotham and nothing else. Smart.
Royal Living problem is he’s not allowed near Gotham lol
What was the best car for renting?
