I remember, back when I was a mustang bro, there was the whole Saleen vs Roush debate for racing (I was a poor boy and was all BBK, so I didn't get to join those debates.) Then the S7 entered pop culture, and suddenly Saleen had this whole mystique to it, and the Saleen Mustangs shot up in value and prestige. I would still sort of love the SN95 Drop Top Saleen with the huge roll bar.

I remember seeing this car in Midnight Club 2 n went nuts. Then I did research n found out it was American like wait what in the actual fuck?! And with stats like that too? This was the only car to almost dethrone the Viper as my dream car. I have nothing but absolute respect for Saleen and the S7.

I always loved the Saleen tuned Mustangs but the S7 especially the twin turbo S7 was something great that will probably never get the love it deserves due to it not being really a big production car

The Twin Turbo didn't make 700 horsepower. It made 750. And that was the base car. There were a couple cars with upgrade packages, there's 850, 900, and 1100 horsepower. Then there's the S7 LM, which didn't make 1500 horsepower, it makes 1300. And it made it into production, tho only 3 were ever made.
Saleen didn't target the Veyron. How could they, when the Veyron was developed after the S7 TT's came out? And that's not even mentioning that Bugatti borrowed a customer car (a black Twin Turbo Competition Package) to benchmark Veyron prototypes against.
Also, that orange car that was shown in the video was crashed in the US, transported to Russia, and was modified a bit. The 7.0L engine was bored out to 9.0L, the car got AWD and a few extra upgrades, it's making around 3000hp
And as for current day Saleen, they are supposedly making S1's, which are the 450ish horsepower supercharged i4 rearmid engine RWD cars, but I don't think anyone has seen one outside of autoshows and GT4 races, where those cars do race

@@nazz2406 that exact car sold in January for 850k. It was the first Twin Turbo car, therefor the first Twin Turbo Competition Package, and it was the first to get the 850hp upgrade. Owner loaned that car to Bugatti when they were making the Veyron and used the S7 as a benchmark

I love the Saleen S7 it's one of my favorite supercars
One thing is having a poster on a wall as a kid. But the CAR was never real. It was only a dream for children. There was no car behind the hype. The thing was home built out of steel tubes and sheet aluminium with a huge Ford engine. But it was never a developed vehicle. It had to run on kit-car plates because it had no paperwork, no legalisation, no nothing. And all those 250 vents and cutouts did noththing. Every bit of technology and engineering was taken out of something else. Including the speedometer. And it was never re calibrated for the car, so it showed insane speeds. Leading some fans to claim it was one of the fastest cars in the world... Because waving flags and claiming things was always more attractive than looking things up and testing it properly.
If I ever get enough money, I’m buying an S7. Before I get any other super car. It’s been my favorite dream wall poster car since I was a kid. I don’t care how old it will be and how many other newer cars are faster.

I was lucky enough to live with someone who worked at Saleen in Irvine CA and was able to go for a ride in the tt S7 with a race car driver at the wheel. It was an amazing experience that I'll never forget.

Ahh i remember the days when i used to drive my saleen s7 in midnight club 3 it was my favorite car there and still it's my favourite supercar
Glad someone is finally giving the S7 some attention! A few things though. It never did 240 or 250mph that is just a claim although I'm sure it's capable of it. Also, the TT car had 750hp, not 700.

Yeah, but, in the 60's the GT40 MkIII was sold as a street legal car with a modified tail section to try to accommodate some form of luggage (maybe a toothbrush?).

I think you messed up the e/t for the Evo 9. I don't know what it is but my base model Cobalt was low 15's stock with a good set of 225's on it and I never wanted smoke from an Evo. I think they were running high 13's/low 14's stock

ill always remember going to a car show in london ontario in 2003 ( 10 years old ) , they had a saleen s7 and i got the chance to do a small ride with the owner . to this day the S7 is the most unique car i ever stepped in and one of the best memory from my childhood

I love the S7. Fabulous car but Trevor you missed the boat. The Calloway twin turbo corvette. We are talking about the C4 version. 1986 model I believe. They drove it from Pa to the track in Oh and ran 258mph!! Or something very close to that and then drove the car back to the shop in Pa. C4 Corvette in the 1980’s!!! This was the first super/hyper American made car available to the public. The S7 came Ron’s later in automotive time. Sorry. 😭
take comparison of the 5th gen Cadillac Seville STS and the 5th gen Toyota Camry 2001-06 1st Gen Camry Solara 99-03 Coupe/Convertible are 775 LBs difference for the regular sedan version of the Camry while the Solara is 542 LBs lighter in weight than the STS is one requires regular 87 Octane gasoline while the other recommends premium gasoline 91 Octane or higher also the Seville listed for almost 18,000 more than the fully optioned Solara XLE V6 Convertible did in 01 and the Car payment over 60 months was 509.00 for the Solara XLE V6 Convertible while it was $804.10 a month for the Seville STS which was a 4 door hardtop Luxury Sedan that was 17 1/4 in long granted Cadillac discontinued the regular Seville in 04 after 28 years and the SLS/STS replaced it from O5 to 2011 than the CTS V replaced it for 2012 model year and that was replaced by the CT5 V Blackwing in 2019 which in its first three years on sale in the US has sold 24,200 cars granted Cadillacs also have a gas guzzlers tax of around 1500 added to their price while a Toyota sedan doesn't have a gas guzzlers tax though the Solara and the Supra did have gas guzzler tax back then but the newer Supras made in partnership with BMW don't have the gas guzzler tax as the base engine is a 4 cylinder though the higher trims that allow an optional v8 engine do have that tax

All they needed was a little marketing... The Viper and the Corvette were treading water during the S7's time.
Vector can be argued but there were so few made and even fewer to actually drive, it didn't even meet the production number to be "market" No it wasn't a homologated car like the S7 and numerous others were; MC12 etc only other car to come close was the SSC Aero, but that was post OG S7. Technically the OG S7 (Ford Mod with no TT) was the closest to break the Mclaren F1s Vmax record by 2 mph, until the Veyron.
C5 corvette was the first car to break the 8 min mark on the ring so id say it counts
Bruce Almighty brought me here... always thought the S7 as a McLaren F1 "longtail" but now it's kind of like a precursor to the McLaren Speedtail. It's time for this American "hyper car" be reintroduced to the motoring public.

The Corvettes and Ford GT are definitely supercars. The Saleen and Vector W8 are absolutely Hypercars.
America should be more proud of its sports car history than it is. The C1 Corvette easily holds its own in the styling department with anything from Europe. Early Mustangs sit comfortably with classics from anywhere else.

The S7 in my opinion has been the most underrated car of that era (early 2000s) overshadowed by the Enzo Murciélago n Carrera GT. And it performed overall better than all those 3

Saleen S7 is still a beautiful car even 15 years later. Do hope a Saleen makes a Production Chiron Killer, even Hennesy is trying. Though I hope Saleen makes it with 16.5 inch + Rotors to be able to Stop it. It would be easy Chiron Needs a Banked 5 Mile Oval to break a Record... We went 300 miles per hour average. in a street legal GT40. Chiron only goes one direction to make a Guinness Record have to return to the headwind back the direction you started... Chiron Bugatti can't do it.

I wouldn't buy the Saleen Mustang has 15.5 inch Rotors and doesn't have Magneride Suspension a must. \ over a Roush. My 2022 Roush Mustang is a debagged Mach1 handling pack with 3rd Fun Pedal Rev-Match Tremec 6 Speed Manual Transmission, Magneride Suspension, Intercooled Torsen Rear Differential. It is Serial Number 22.0001.450R too and will never Sell it not even for $1 million
All of these Features are not in the Saleen Mustangs or Shelby America Super Snakes and I found this out in December 2022. I view a Video of Steve Saleen saying they Start with the BASE Mustang GT... None have Rev-Match Tremec 6 Speed. None are equipped with the Mageride Suspension, or Intercooled Rear Limited Torsen Differential. So investigated the Super Snake and Found out the Same Results as the Saleen's. This Upset me, because I used to Hold Shelby as the Highest Echelon in Ford Performance, and They aren't the Shelby GT500 from Ford is Better, not the Super Snake from Shelby America

It is not an easy car to drive with no driver aids, but these didn't crash all that often. 3 out of 72 isn't a bad number, considering the CGTs, since 1/6th of those cars were crashed before production even ended

Fastest American super car ever built? Not really. How old is this article (2006?) as there have been faster than this like the John Hennessy products and Tautara and before that the other Shelby Super Car (not Carroll Shelby) stuff since the early 2007 on…..but yes when it came out WAS the fastest but not for long.
