As I listened, I felt as if James, Anne, and Carlos were describing me. Perfectly! I'm teary-eyed right now. Telling myself: "Hey, it's really nice to know you; warts and all. There's hope for you after all." Thank you so much, you guys! This has been a liberating encounter with you. Iain, you really did great here; guiding this conversation so adeptly, so calmly. Thank you!

My husband is a Type 1 and I am a Type 9. So we almost got divorced...but I think this personality test saved our marriage!

I'm a type 1 INTJ and I think I'm more perfectionistic about the "big picture" than daily tasks. I'm perfectionistic about my health, my grades, my career, my morals, but I really don't give a damn about the dish washer. My house is clean but not OCD clean.

wonderful interview on Type One. Despite the One's good intentions, the world will never be perfect according to their set of standards. When the One falls prey to "enforcing personal standards", it is like bringing sand to the beach, or pushing water uphill. It's a battle lost before it started. Healthy Ones are wonderfully objective, realistic, wise, and accepting of others. They often become great advocates for specific causes that can change the world.

Excellent discussion! Really liked these three guests and how they shared themselves.

From a perfectionist perspective, it was heartening that the conversation was moved by Mr.McNay from a trajectory that at times trended into the miserabilist to a more positive and celebratory one of the upside rather than the downside.

I have such a headache, that I am sick at my stomach. I am a Type 1 and Mr. Condon was explaining that when you first realize your type and it sinks any many have that sick feeling. Well, the above description couldn't have been more correct and I am physically sick. By profession I am a Nurse, nothing about me is spontaneous. For the past 4 years I have been living in a foreign country not by choice and everything about it has been the most irritating, aggravating, and had made me the most unhappy I have ever been in my life. I don't like the culture, religion, people, the way they behave, the housing. Yes, just name and I can pick it apart. I realize now it is my need to reform them, their laws, their culture, behavior. Just pick a subject and I want to change it and have a hundred ways to do it.
My home is the United States and NO it is not perfect by any shape form or fashion. Maybe I had just integrated all of the wrong there, I know what is wrong but I look at this place as just lunacy. I am constantly asking my husband "What is wrong with these people, why is this like this, what are they thinking, they have no respect for themselves much less anyone else." He is really over it, LOL. I now understand my response to all this, still doesn't make it any easier or change the fact, I want to leave as soon as we are able.

Amazing conversation. I found this so helpful in understanding myself. I'm certainly on the journey and quietly pleased with my progress ... clearly a life-time journey though. I'm definitely a 1 - a 1w2 if the test I did on the net is correct - it certainly feels so. Thanks again and good spirit to you all 😌.

Thanks for this video! I was recommended to look into the enneagram philosophy about a year ago, and I finally got around to it. My first reaction was 'this is bogus' when I got the online test results, but skimming the Wiki article changed my mind, as I realised I just don't agree with the psychological labels chosen.
Reformer??! WTF does that even mean??
Watching this video gave me a much better idea, and I'm glad I took the time to study this idea, because while I initially thought this was totally irrelevant to me, I now think it's 100% accurate.

My mother's a 1 and she did the same thing to my dad with the dishwasher! Then, when I was 12 she decided I should be the one to do it because I'm a 6 and a great problem-solver, so I was the PERFECT person to be given that chore!

Unhealthy Ones do not inspire me. I want to run away. I will distance myself at every turn.

This man I think accidentally picked one of each of the three type 1 subtypes.

I am at odds, I'm such a strange type 1, I used to indulge alot, was addicted, was very lazy and I didn't feel bad for much of it too but still was type 1. Now maybe some of my true of type1 qualities have a emerged, I am constantly stressed, I know what the "right" action is, and I just do just shit to do shit(swearing another non-type 1 thing) even when I am stressed and not feeling it. I'm also now more quite spontaneous and random which could relate to intp more.

+Paul Atma Look into MBTI. I'm an INTJ type one. When INTJ's get stressed, they use their Se and become lazy hogs.

+Paul Atma I would be very interested to have your input on this new research by Maia Szalavitz on addictive personality and obsessive behaviour. Does it resonate with your experience? www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-addictive-personality-isn-t-what-you-think-it-is/

The Serenity Prayer is great for Ones. It’s interesting how Ones actually think that they can improve others. Helping is not the same thing as improving. Unhealthy Ones have too many expectations of others and they use the word disappointment too much. Unhealthy Ones become healthier when they realize that they actually have no business being disappointed in others.

I mean, Hillary Clinton talking about the "deplorables" is classic 1. There is a short-sightedness that comes with 1-ness that doesn't succeed very well in politics if the person hasn't been challenged enough.
