I have both the 240 and the 300 sets and I absolutely love these pencils. I know it seems like a lot of pencils to have, but I kind of have a bit of an obsession when it comes to colored pencils! And that is putting it mildly...hahaha! But indeed, these pencils lay down so nicely and blend beautifully. Plus, the extra colors in the box of 300 are so lovely! I can't stop oowwing and ahhing every time I choose a new color.
What a great review ! I thought that since I already had the 240 set, that I did not need the 300 set. That was until I saw your swatch. This set does have everything, from great skin tones to a beautifully selection of pastels and earthy colors. My favorites though are the enormous selections of the, pinks, purples and blues. My favorite shades. I tend to use a big variety of different types of pictures and try to make use of all a set of pencils has to offer. I know that this was a lot of work for you. Thanks so much.
I ordered the 72 set… and love them… last week I decided to order the 300 set and I’m waiting for them to come in on Friday, I can hardly wait! I even bought a set of the macaron and the metallic sets of 50… then cause I felt bad, I bought a set of 300 for the hubby, he’s doing really good coloring and liked the 72 set too! I’ve been watching everyones TH-cam videos on how to blend, and how to do the flowers and the snow and the leaves and the sky and the backgrounds… I just love to color and look forward to learning as much as I can… great video… enjoyed it!!!
I bought this set thinking it was going to be like my 180 Brutfuners, just with more colors, but nope they are like my 168 Brutfuners that have no names (called Oily when I bought them). They are decent pencils, but require light layers like Polychromos. They do work great on certain types of papers and terrible on other types. My bottom tray was all jumbled up too and one pencil tip was broken. I'm hoping the rest of that tray doesn't have broken cores. As carefully packaged as they were I'm thinking the damage is happening in the warehouse before shipment occurs. Thank you for the swatch sheet in "almost" family order. It helps immensely.
That's an incredible amount of pencils to swatch! I don't have any of the Kalour colored pencil sets, but I have watched some TH-camrs, that really liked them. Thanks for sharing your swatching, coloring and experience with this set.
I just received my kalour 300 today. I haven't tried them yet but I know I will like them. As a beginner colorist I think I would be waisting my money if I spent $300 and more on Derwent. This set added to my other pencils will be pleasing

I have the 240 set, for me, there are excellent colored pencils. Then I saw the 300 set, which I will buy. I like the great selection of greens and the new colors. But my 150 prisma color set is the best.
I've just ordered the 240 set (which is supposed to arrive before Christmas, but we'll see). I was looking around on YT for colored pencils reviews, and then I discovered this video. Now I wish that I had gotten the 300 set instead!
In all my tins i got the thick card stock i bought the 240 then a week later i saw the 300 i bought that too and i am happy with them i also bought the 72 they were ridiculously cheap and that's what i expected but to my surprise i loved them at least i wont have to worry about replacing pencils 😆

Tfs great review! I honestly don’t use my kalour pencils a lot they are a basic set not sure of size of set even lol .. I get overwhelmed with so many new brands coming out . Kudos to you Crystal for even sharpening 300 pencils !! 😂 those big sets I sharpen as I go lol 💗🍁
I haven't purchased any of the Kalour pencils because honestly they confuse me. There are now five completely different pencils under the name.. so obviously they are white labeled, which I don't have a fundamental issue with.. but some of them are identical to other brands that claim to be oil based while these claim to be wax based. So which is right?... or are they all just making up whatever will sell? Then while many have said they like them... nobody ever actually uses them in tutorials etc. That says a lot and it's unfortunately something I see too much of in the coloring community.. reviews that rave when a product comes out but then it just disappears until they next new release. Add to that multiple Amazon reviews of major quality issues.. especially cracked or splitting pencils and pencils that are straight up crooked from one end to the other.. with photos mind you...and I just didn't know what to think. I got excited when their macarons came out because they are obviously the same as the Brutfuners and I would love a full spectrum set of them.. I love those particular pencils and they work amazingly on every paper I've put them on, in fact I love them so much I mixed them with my polychromos which was a major project...but just like Brutfuners those are a different pencil to all of their other sets.
I think the factory that makes the Brutfunner brand of pencils probably make up a large majority of the budget pencil sets being sold currently. The thing is some companies will just sell them as is by doing what most know as white labeling. Some might even go the further step and just change the outer packaging with their own branding. I see people throwing the term "white labeling" around alot even when that's not exactly whats happening. Possibly what I think Kalour and some others might be doing is tweaking the formulas just enough to claim exclusively or more wax than oil or vice versa. This is known more as private labeling. I used to work behind the scenes in the retail fashion industry so saw this being done all the time. One factory making for example a dress for several different brands from high end to low end. The only difference sometimes being maybe the higher end brand having an exclusive color or print. The fabric quality could also be different but not always. Then they just get different brand labels sewn into them.
@@CrystalsColorStyle I've run into both these processes with my oil pencils... Nyoni, Deli, and Markart. Markarts are Nyoni's.. they only changed the box. I knew that going in (the print is obvious in photos) so I only bought the Markart's. However my Deli's are exactly the same pencil as my Markarts.. except for the print on the pencils they are exactly the same in appearance and performance. If I tossed some tape over the print and mixed them in a box you would have no idea which is which when holding them or coloring with them. So essentially if I had bought all three I would have three sets of the same exact pencils, and I wasted about $60 buying the other set of the exact same thing plus a case. That sort of thing puts a pause in your step when you are hovering over that "add to cart" button.
@@waymire01 yes the Nyoni and Markart are the same pencils. I have the Deli's and the Nyoni pencils too. They are very similar but I can tell a difference. I do know that the Deli pencils are made in a different factory than the Nyoni/Markart pencils. I had looked into it a few years ago.
@@waymire01Add Kasimir to that list. I have the Kasimir, Deli, Nyoni and Kalour. Just don’t purchase the Kalour 180 set in the black and white tin with the elephant, they are a mess, shoddy. This is the Ferris wheel we are on with this hobby. They have us spending ever so often buying the same pencils over and over. Now there’s the Kalour 520 out…..I’ll wait for the price to drop. I mentioned in a comment that buying the 520 is buying the 300 twice, if you own the 300. The Kalour rep who did the video said no they are different and they put a lot of thought in developing the 520…..I don’t know. Tonight I wanted to buy the Kalour 520 from Amazon Japan but just before I tipped purchase, I noticed the price was almost doubled with shipping costs etc. I don’t know why I am paying for shipping from Japan when I have prime. Anyways, I decided not to buy the 520 afterall……but since I was all high on spending hormones, I ordered the 240 to have a play with it. I want to see if I can get all the Prismacolor colours out of this set. Should be fun.
@@CrystalsColorStyle exactly Crystal...corners get cut in the construction steps/cheaper materials...like elastic/thread and even the fabric content...can "cheapen up"...corners cut on pocket construction...like forget about tailoring or anything with a touch of Haute Couture...guess it is now a thing with pretty much everything...even...hard to believe...budget coloured pencils...thanks for all your hard work in swatching and researching everything...I love pencil cryons...but...yikes...mix some paint up...throw it on the backround layers...then...start with the pencil crayon...save your fingers some aches...I would just use pencil crayons for a lot of final touches...or detailed...but more with a layer beneath of paint colour...that takes the pencil well...best wishes...Janis
I like your color swatches you created. When I opened my box to put in a case for easier storage, my metal box took a swan dive off my table and onto the lid. Pencils everywhere. 🥺 So I ended up placing them in number order and did the swatch card. I’m like you, there okay for being a less expensive pencil but I’m not real happy with them. If I don't have the 240 set, should I get the 300? Right now it is about $20 difference. Tamu is $111 and even with $30 coupon it is still higher than Amazon
They're the same pencils so it's up to you to decide if it's worth it for the 60 extra colors. The prices will change all the time so buy from wherever is the cheapest.
So, my set of the Kalour 300 came, and the last tray's pencils are all flewn all over out of the tray, i saw that you kinda had the same thing happen, how do I get my set to boxed or packaged order again, I can't tell from the pics, do you have any ideas?

@Miss Eddie Blue - Kawaii Krafts they might be close enough that you could use them together but they're not exactly the same the Macarons have a thicker core and I think are a bit softer. They're not the same colors as the additional 60 added to the 300 set.

Not really imo. The Arrtx have thicker cores and laydown more smooth & buttery. The outer barrel design are also different. I would most compare this Kalour set to the type of Brutfuner sets with numbers and no names.
10 trays with 30 pencils each, seems kind of obvious when I thought about it lol. Honestly, I hate the design of these pencils and they're probably the same as any other Brutfuner white-labeled pencil.

Microwave the broken pencil for 30 seconds to 1 minute depending on brand of appliance n let it cool......it works for me

Yes just not as many they keep the same numbers and names as the 240. I'm assuming the smaller sets as well.

I would consider #266 Bondi Blue as a nice Baby Blue color. There's also #88 Pale Blue, #269 Byzantium, #268 Kalour Blue, #267 Lt. Indigo.

No there might be some similar colors throughout the whole 240/300 but these are a different series of pencils. They're not the same.

Derwent colorsoft is like a prisma.

I haven't had many issues with breakage in general with them. Just that one that seems to have been damaged in shipping.
The 300 kit badly lacks skin colours and light greys. Thankfully my Prismacolor 150 kit fills in these gaps.
I think that's debatable depending on personal opinion and what you would consider "skintones" there's also at least 4 or 5 light Greys.
