+Edgar Nattress Mine too. Quick, meaningless fact: I recently watched a video on how the movie isn't what we generally remember it being. It was somewhat nit-picky, but it pointed out that it's not even a "movie", really. It's only 25 minutes long, which surprised me. Thank you for watching!
+Cactus Makeshop Thank you, Sir. Most of the paints I used are acrylics which, on this wood, had a very dull, matte sheen. But I finished the entire thing with about 7-8 coats of clear spray lacquer, which really gave the paint a great amount of vibrancy. You ought to see it in person. It's a real beauty!
+David Bishop Thanks! Contest or not, I'm just glad to have made this piece. It turned out cooler than I expected, my wife seems thrilled to own it and it looks great on our wall! I've already won as far as I'm concerned!
+Ben Brandt I use my scroll saw a lot, but more as a utility tool than anything else. I don't generally do dedicated "scroll saw projects". Every once in a while it's nice to give it a starring role and see what happens. Thanks for watching, Ben.
+JWAM No worries. Celebration with beer was definitely high priority! I think there may even be a glimpse or beer in the video. Thank you for watching!
Now that was a pleasure to watch! Well done. The Drunk Guy tried this with a photo, but sorely missed the mark. Yours came out much better. This video I will watch over and over...Thanks
+WM “Wayne Martin” Woodworking It made a great gift for my wife, that's for sure. This method could easily be applied to many comic, cartoon scenes, coloring book pictures and so on. You could made all kinds of cool art for a kid's room. Thanks for watching.
Thanks! I love how it turned out. I've done several others as well, but this is definitely on of my favorites. I also have a video of a fireplace painting I did earlier this year using the same technique.
+Heavyboxes Thank you very much! I brought this to our woodworking club meeting yesterday and the first thing most people commented on was the paint job. I know a lot of people find it blasphemous to paint wood. But there are times when it's genuinely the 'right thing to do' to a project. Subjectively, of course.
+Spinnaker Wood Shop I was in a desperate search for some Halloween themed imagine to use. My wife is the one who suggested this classic Peanuts picture. I'm glad she did; it was a perfect picture for this project. Thank you for watching!
I really like this Steve, I reckon we may see alot more of this type of project now you have put the idea out there. Thanks for sharing the knowledge! N.
+Willem Kossen Thanks! I'll admit that it can be a tad bit confusing at first. But once you get the concept it all sort of falls into place without much trouble at all.
+Tim Veneck Thank you for watching! I'm glad I was able to give you new idea. If you make something like this, feel free to send me a picture and I'll show it in a future video (if you want).
That definitely deserves to be framed and hung on the wall. Charles would be proud Steve. The scrolling and layering was perfect. I'm not as patient nor as skilled as you in painting so perhaps I will print it out in color and stick the paper to the different layers then lacquer it. BTW, the Charles M. Shultz museums (and his Ice Rink) north of San Fransisco is a cool little place to visit if you're ever up that way.
+MRrwmac Thank you very much! I suspect he would have liked it. I think the paints really did justice to the source material. But printing and sticking would work too. Or even using photographs. I'll bet the museum is pretty cool.
+Knotheads Cny The colors actually started off pretty dull. But 7-8 coats of clear spray lacquer really brought it to life in a big way. I appreciate your support!
+Matt Diresta I think every shop needs a scroll saw. I don't do a lot of "scroll saw projects", per se`, but I do use my scroll saw as 'just another tool" on lot of projects. Either way, it's a great tool to have in your arsenal. Thanks for watching!
Looking great. Reminds me of the paper tole projects my daughter was doing in 1990's. I see there are some youtube tole channels so pointers for sorting layers on other projects may be available there. Creating voids behind some levels really makes them bounce even more than just being built out. Thanks for introducing a new idea to me.
Great project Steve. Picked up lots of tips from this video. Its especially timely seeing just picked up a scroll saw at a yard sale a couple weeks ago. Maybe I'll do a Thanks giving themed play on this.
+Brian Lasch Thank you for watching, Brian! I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it useful. I'd love to see what you make! Feel free to send me a picture when you make some dust with that saw.
+JC Oliva Ooo, thanks for the compliment! And thank you for watching. I think I'll have to make more pictures in this style some time in the future. I've received tons of positive feedback. Online and in person. I think stuff like this would make great gifts.
+Geeksmithing I appreciate that, Sir! You know, I get more comments on the paint job than anything else with this. Oddly, I was concerned that the paint would be the weakest part. But once I started spraying the clear lacquer - and it all came to life with vibrant color - I was treated to a very pleasant surprise.
+jp woodwork Thank you very much. Oh, I received your sticker last week! Sorry, I've been so busy I haven't sent you a thank you message yet. Thank you! I sent mine out to you as well.
Steve French no problem Steve, just glad you got it and thanks so much for sending one in return, it will take pride of place with the rest when i have made a place for them :)
Hey Steve, that is really nice. "Carbon Paper!!!!" Hey, I remember that stuff. Of course, I can remember when radios were AM only and penny postcards too. Keep 'um comin'. JimE
+Veronica Thanks for the support! I really love how this piece turned out. My wife loves Snoopy (and the whole Peanuts gang) too. Her reaction to my work is often the most satisfying part; Naturally, this piece belonged to her before it was even started.
+Brian Shannon You know, scroll saw work is a mixed bag for me. I generally avoid "scroll saw projects". I'm not really into fretwork and I'm generally underwhelmed by much of the scroll saw work I see. That's not to discount or belittle the genre; it's just not my style. I do USE my scroll saw quite a lot, but more as a utility tool. But sometimes I come up with a 'scroll saw project" that gives me a glimpse at what others love about the scroll saw. Charlie Brown and his friends never looked so good. Wonderful job!!!
+Sherry Johnson Thank you, young lady! It came out really cool, if I may say so myself.

Just awesome, Steve! Snoopy is near and dear to my heart.

That brings back some memories from my childhood.
Steve, that is REALLY COOL! Nicely done. Those colors really pop too! Cheers, Chris.
+Cactus Makeshop Thank you, Sir. Most of the paints I used are acrylics which, on this wood, had a very dull, matte sheen. love it. one of my favorite Charlie Brown cartoons.
+Audra Flores Thank you for watching, Audra!
Fun project Steve, nice look with the multiple layers. I don't scroll saw myself, but I can see the appeal.
+Ben Brandt I use my scroll saw a lot, but more as a utility tool than anything else. I don't generally do dedicated "scroll saw projects". Every once in a while it's nice to give it a starring role and see what happens. Thanks for watching, Ben.

That was a really good idea! Especially because it came out really well and looks like the original artist drew them.
+Heavyboxes Thank you very much! I brought this to our woodworking club meeting yesterday and the first thing most people commented on was the paint job. Hmm. Never thought I would do these, but you have me reconsidering
+Brian Shannon You know, scroll saw work is a mixed bag for me. I generally avoid "scroll saw projects". Awesome video and project. But I do have one complaint: I did not think I needed a scroll saw before, but now I want to get one and I don't know where to put it. I guess I need to go do some more organizing.
+The AMC Garage In response to your complaint: You're welcome! Haha, thanks for watching! As for finding space: good luck. That's a problem that will plague woodworkers for all of time. Our shops will never be large enough.
Kewl stuff man!
I like how you painted the edges black to give them more of a cartoon look.
One idea that came to mind for me was to round over the edges so that they taper to the back with no visible edge from the front. But that might not look so great. IDK. Have you tried something like that before?
+crazyray05 Thanks! I rounded over the edges a bit so that there are no square edges facing the viewer. But they're rounded, not tapered. It made a huge difference in the appearance of the layers.
Excellent....
Cheers...
+Adam Quincey Thanks. I appreciate your support.
Phew! Quite a headache figurin' out the layering, but no bother for a southpaw! As always, really enjoyed this vid mate. Incidentally how can I get one of your Woody stickers?
+Mark McCluney It can be a little bit of a brain teaser at first. But really, the picture itself tells you how things are layered. It's just up to you to decide how many layers you want to tackle and then confine the picture elements to that number of layers. As for the sticker, send me a message with your address. Thanks for your support.
