It’s so good you are normalising sessions not going perfect. So many rider (like myself) are hard on themselves because of some of their sessions. But we need to normalise ponies not being their best. Remembering they are animals they do have opinions xxx
For only being under saddle for 10 weeks he’s doing amazing!!!!! You have been doing amazing with him!! And making mistakes with youngsters is key, you want them to learn how to handle when you make mistakes and for him to handle his own mistakes it’s all about learning, I have an ottb and she’s been doing super good she used to not be able to even go over a pole but now we’ve jumped 3’3” and in only 6 months it’s amazing how quickly they can learn!!
The 24 yr old gelding that I ride is interesting at the block! The yard has concrete set of steps to use but the pony I ride occasionally walks straight past it, sometimes right into it, sometimes refuses to go near it, it’s not being naughty, he’s just a unique boy and he’s basically perfect otherwise
You can see how willing and confident Ari is and what a good owner and rider he is too, I know how special he is to you, because of Lara, I loved Lara too, I highly hope he carries her genes and becomes the best eventing horse for you.
He reminds me of my 5yo gelding. Same thing he was so hard to start because if he got bored he wouldn't move a foot 🤦♀️ then I started with pokes and he loved it. Moving into a few small jumps in the fall and he just thought it was the greatest thing ever 🤣
Thank you thank you thank you! I am working with two youngsters right now and you have just given me some fabulous tips. I have one that gets bored and shuts down especially on downward transitions. It is so helpful to see what others are doing and to get some fresh and positive ideas! YAY!!
This vlog proves your real talent Meg. Voice over was great also. Your imagination and reasons for the pole work is so educational. Keep doing more like this one. Ari: beautiful, smart, his movements thru the poles enabled by his lovely confirmation. Lovely on his mini make over! His tail is absolutely beautiful. How the white flows over the top side of the black. Hope you never trim it for dressage but plait it. Stay safe.💙😎🐎
Meg... can you do a vlog on pole work and striding etc? I have a rising 5yr old and really struggle to get it right. I'd love to do some more pole sessions with him but tend to not know where to start with setting something out. My boy is a 16.3 irish sports horse so appreciate the striding will be different for mine compared to yours but would be great to see how you work it all out. Xx
I really like to watch these kind of videos where you just do your everyday ride! It’s good to see that even though you are a TH-camr and have followers that you are still down to earth
i have a mum and she doesnt know horses well so for my first pony she got me a 4yr old welsh cob mare shes amazing but verry green i was the first one to bring her into a school and star schooling she had been backed in a out door filed and just a lot of hacking so shes bomb proof now shes so sweet just needs a lot of work ❤️
If you release all pressure, however slight, when he's at the block he will realize in no time it's the best feeling to stand there still for you to get on. Give him a moment to relax before you jump on( to reward). Always worked perfectly with my youngster 😊❤️
Fantastic vlog Meg. Please keep them coming, as I will hopefully be in the same position next year with my youngster so it helps to see the highs and lows of other equestrians with their babies, and tips and tricks learned along the way. P.S. Ari looks so smart and sensible! Xxx
He is such a good boy and it just goes to show you can plan right down to the finest detail but it won’t always go to that plan after all horses live and breath and just so happen to have minds of there own they are not robots after all but you did good on finding out early on he gets very bored quick Ian’s I know people will say most youngsters are like that but some people might think they are being naughty or silly but I don’t think he going to be a one to become a happy hacker even when he is older so thank you for sharing
Babies like that were always fun and challenging at the same time lol they kept you on your toes, but finding different things for them, because they learn so fast was always so hard. keeping it age-appropriate but still learning. that's one reason my barrel youngsters learned basic dressage and I played with trot poles, obstacles, some even learned tricks just to keep it fun.
That was great very good, Harry is very Handsome too, amazing difference in him already.. true horsemanship inventive and clever forward intuitive thinking, very nice indeed bravO
You inspired me a 43 yr old woman to start a degree in equine science management and training!! I’m also doing the riding option. I competed in my first dressage competition last month and came third, thank you for making me believe in myself again xxx
Ok, so the haircut looks better once he's all tacked up :P I may have been a bit (jokingly) harsh yesterday 🤭 lovely to see this sort of work Meg 💖 it is really informative and makes me really realise just how much I really do want to get back to working with horses, improving my riding (I can barely jump!) and just being somewhere I feel I belong. I wish I could come and work for you seeing all the shenanigans you lot get up to. Dealing with all the hard work behind the scenes looks totally worth it 💖 thank you for sharing with us. So excited for you and Ari, little Dora and the foals 🥰🤩🥳
I love him! He’s going to be so fantastic out eventing. I love the tip for keeping them active out of the downwards transition, will definitely be doing that.
Clever with his feet over the poles, and nicely uphill in canter, which looks promising for jumping. Not taking a consistent hold of the bit hopefully will Improve with a change. He's grand Meg!
Loved the video, Thank you for doing this, it was really interesting and informative. Ari has a bright future in front of him :) Looking forward to more videos like this to see his development
Really love how you show the good and bad, it's a very brave thing to do as the internet can be a mean place. Also love your voice over! Maybe something you should do more in the future? Looking forward to Ari's future!
Absolutely love watching your vlogs on riding and breaking the youngsters! My guy is going to the breaker about july/August this year so I'll have a green broke baby to!
Amazing video❤ I broke 2 of my fingers yesterday and I unfortunately can not lesson with my horse, nor show this weekend. Also means I can’t bring along my ottb:( It’s good to see you normalizing imperfect sessions! Tons of ppl put themselves down for it.
Chewing on the bit will stop as he gets more used to having it in his mouth. I've always encouraged it. As it is keeping them focused on two things at the same time. What you are asking of them and chewing on the bit. As I said, the bit chewing stops all on its own as he gets ridden more and has more wet saddle pads, or miles put on him. And he's only a baby. So your 15 or 20 minutes of work in the arena is a great time frame. Just my experience in 50+ years with horses and backing youngsters as well during that time. Stay Safe Everyone!! 💖 💖 From Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 💖 🇨🇦 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
This. We used to pop bits on horses as young as 18 months just to let them get used to the feel. No pressure on the mouth, just hanging out supervised with a bit to play with
Great idea with poles after a downward transition! Thanks, I'm gonna try that for better forward thinking. :) Ari looks gorgeous! 😍How about a hacking video soon with him?
Love the baby vlogs! I honestly really love bringing along the youngsters, thinking this may be something I do more in the future. Only problem is that I get really attached and would probably have a hard time selling any! Doesn't make for a great business plan lol.
Has he always been so forward? My mare has been under saddle 4 weeks and so reluctant to go forward. Currently working lots on the ground with her but would like to keep her ticking over with 1 or 2 short schooling sessions... x
how do you get the horses head down as you do, I've been struggling with my green horses and want to get them away from putting their head up to get away from pressure so they can gallop around and ignore me. ( Neither are young, one wasn't wanted as she wasn't a good mover, still isn't and the other was given back after being a trail horse )
Not every lesson is going to go how you planned/ absolutely perfect but horse's try there absolutely heart out so give them a big pat ❤️
It’s so good you are normalising sessions not going perfect. So many rider (like myself) are hard on themselves because of some of their sessions. But we need to normalise ponies not being their best. Remembering they are animals they do have opinions xxx
Oh my lord, those little high steps were SO CUTE
For only being under saddle for 10 weeks he’s doing amazing!!!!! You have been doing amazing with him!! And making mistakes with youngsters is key, you want them to learn how to handle when you make mistakes and for him to handle his own mistakes it’s all about learning, I have an ottb and she’s been doing super good she used to not be able to even go over a pole but now we’ve jumped 3’3” and in only 6 months it’s amazing how quickly they can learn!!
I am literally obsessed with the blond in ari’s tail it’s so pretty with the brown 😊
So here for Ari's journey! I love bringing along babies & have especially enjoyed bringing along my homebred babies!
Can't wait to see Ari all shiny with his summer coat!
100% my fav TH-cam at the moment and thinks its gonna be like that for a while love your vids and all the ponies!!!
You can see how willing and confident Ari is and what a good owner and rider he is too, I know how special he is to you, because of Lara, I loved Lara too, I highly hope he carries her genes and becomes the best eventing horse for you.
Sorry ìm only watching now you posted this ten minutes befor my operation I was asleep for the rest of the day
The way he prances over the raised poles is so cute!he is actually a very smart, beautiful little man
He reminds me of my 5yo gelding. Same thing he was so hard to start because if he got bored he wouldn't move a foot 🤦♀️ then I started with pokes and he loved it. Moving into a few small jumps in the fall and he just thought it was the greatest thing ever 🤣
I love it when you do flatwork / polework. I’d love to see some more flatwork schooling sessions with voiceovers
Well done Megg!
Sessions are never perfect, even with older, more experienced horses, but they and you always try your best and love them no matter how the day went
It’s not always gonna go to plan but you two are gonna progress greatly!
My spelling 🥲
Thank you thank you thank you! I am working with two youngsters right now and you have just given me some fabulous tips. I have one that gets bored and shuts down especially on downward transitions. It is so helpful to see what others are doing and to get some fresh and positive ideas! YAY!!

Remember when Meg used to use guttering as poles! Now she has all those fancy ones

"he'd been given a haircut, which he didn't think was the vibe" a mood 🤣

You inspired me a 43 yr old woman to start a degree in equine science management and training!! I’m also doing the riding option. I competed in my first dressage competition last month and came third, thank you for making me believe in myself again xxx

Clever with his feet over the poles, and nicely uphill in canter, which looks promising for jumping. Not taking a consistent hold of the bit hopefully will Improve with a change. He's grand Meg!

He´s looking good!!
He moves beautifully at a trot, a nice fluid motion. Ari is slowly replacing Sally as my favorites of all time.
Little angel, so pretty poni
Where is Ari's bridle from? Love the video ! X
Great video Meg 🥰
Great idea with poles after a downward transition! Thanks, I'm gonna try that for better forward thinking. :) Ari looks gorgeous! 😍How about a hacking video soon with him?

Would be interested to know which bitting specialist you use. As would love to use one myself but cannot find one in my area.
Can you do a meet all my horses
SAt watching this in my class 2021 hoodie 🥰
Has he always been so forward? My mare has been under saddle 4 weeks and so reluctant to go forward. Currently working lots on the ground with her but would like to keep her ticking over with 1 or 2 short schooling sessions... x
he’d been given a haircut but he didn’t think it was a vibe 😂💕
He’s a very good boy! How tall is he now? I think the last time you measured him (on camera!) was last (2020) vlogmas?
he's so floatyyyyy
Where can you find the magnetic pad that you use?
Love it! Early!💕💕💕
