I’m so happy to hear that your projects can take a month. My early exploits into ancient pottery have always felt painfully halting and slow, in the garage waiting for something to dry “just a bit longer” before the next step. Keep up the great work. Thanks!
So many of the steps depend on a certain stage of dryness so it can really drag on, especially if you are having to go to work during that time too. Thanks
FABULOUS recap of your work this year. Loved seeing all the challenges again. Do you get to see any of the finished pieces that are made by other potters who are taking part in your ancient pottery challenge?
this was really nice to watch!! and i love the commercial- fun-joke at 35 mins in.. made me laugh out loud :D !!! feels a bit like im a recordplayer on repeat but: amasingly well made video, !! and i love the historical facts your pressenting and... everything!! well done andy...!! oh and i think i should add: you've made some amasingly beautifull pottery too!! well done!!! hats of for you!!
There are only so many compliments that can be thought of, and this channel has milked our complement capacity... Great show again and Great work again, and keep it up, Andy!
Great work, as usual! Even the "failure" piece you want to redo is still pretty amazing! P.S. Loved the 'gift from the weird uncle' comment! That would be good weird at least...Lol!
Un video maravilloso! La narrativa, la información, la investigación, la ejecución, los resultados .....todo muy educativo. Gracias, de una seguidora desde Chile. Le envío un saludo fraterno. Y feliz 2025 🎉
I love your channel. I'm going to go out and see if I can find any kind of clay on my hikes. I live in Montana, and I know there's bentonite around, but I'm not sure of any other types
Ive been having this problem with my pottery, when i fire it it fires fine but its kind brittle? It rubs off and leaves powder on my thumb when i rub it with my thumb, any way to fix it? Im up in washington so most of the clay here is glacial clay
Sir, did you ever correct the problems with using a BBQ as a kiln???? I have the answer, more oxygen more heat, as you stated, Here is a adjustable ,cheap way to produce oxygen on demand for said kiln, ..... $ store batteries manganese dioxide, mixed with hydrogen peroxide, OXYGEN for pennies from dollar tree ... I also use clay planter pots stacked because this method melts the BBQ LMAO.... But you need a second BBQ to preheat pieces, because this method raises temps so fast with oxygen and charcoal.... For other's, I know you know all that ... Sir.
A whole hour of Andy Ward talking about pottery on a Thursday morning, what a treat. Thank You!
I'm glad I could make your Thursday a little more tolerable.
Those are all beautiful pots, but that big Tularosa jar is just next-level.
Thanks Dave, that was a big project
To me, this information is soooo inspirational. It seems to almost forces me to learn more.
Thank you for presenting this the way you have. ✔🍦🌼😊

Loved this video, extremely informative 👏
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.
I appreciate how you made this video its own instead of simply cutting all the original videos together in their already published forms.
Thanks
They all turned out so nice! Looking forward to seeing what you do in the new year!

Andy this is such a great video! You must feel very accomplished after finishing all of this and all of those great replicas!

Ha ha, I was thinking of a particular family member when I said that, I better not say too much lest that person read my comments section.
This was amazing. Thank you so much for all the work!
I love the black on red that is so cool I’m so glad your doing it I wanted to understand how it was done

So why not print a calendar featuring pots from Ancient Pottery Challenge, each with a little informational blurb? I'll order two
Does anyone use a paper calendar any more?
We use both phone and paper, if the photographs are beautiful we use them to look at
Me want calender on ceramic slab!
6:27 How did you manage to get your hands on those white and yellow slips...
How are these mugs and pots water tight if theyre earthware? Am new to pottery and am curious

There’s a lot of great clay in Montana. I have a video about finding clay in Montana
Ive been having this problem with my pottery, when i fire it it fires fine but its kind brittle? It rubs off and leaves powder on my thumb when i rub it with my thumb, any way to fix it? Im up in washington so most of the clay here is glacial clay
In central Oklahoma I can hit clay at about 2 feet down. Can I use this for pottery?
Yes I lived in Oklahoma and there is good clay all over the place.
Have you ever harvested wild clay from central/southern TX?
No, I never have
Hey i have a question the clay you made would it be just like the real clay?
It is real clay. Real clay is mined from the earth just like I dig my clay.
Did the original navajo or hopi potters not make lids?
They did not
How many hours for firing?
The surface firings happen in less than an hour. The smothered pit firings take several hours waiting for the pits to cool
Oops. Ocotillo spines or saguaro 🌵 ribs lashed together. This method was used in their settlements for directing wind to create breezes.
I haven't heard of that before, I would like to see it demonstrated.
If I were an ancient kiln expert I would've realized I need a portable wind break, easy to source locally, ochatja
👍
i made some clay and made a bowl!!!!!!im only nine!!!!!
That’s awesome
😄👍🤙

PS the pot don't last more than1-3 firings at most
