The insurance industry may be crooked for not paying out to existing clients, but taking on high-risk clients is utter stupidity. The premiums paid by these homeowners will never cover what insurers have to pay out so that they can enjoy their waterfront lifestyle.

As someone who lives in a cyclone (hurricane) prone area in Australia why are your houses built of wood? We have building standards here to prevent damage like seen in this video. Why is wood used so much in hurricane prone areas? Is your roof tied to the foundation? Is there internal bracing? Are the size of the windows engineered for wind? Where are your building standards for hurricanes?

wood is extremely cheap in the US and if the house is built to code in FL (post 2005?) it will actually survive if built to 2 stories. a lot of the homes shown here were built prior to hurricane andrew which tightened building codes.

I live in Florida, I live in a small town called Lake Placid, Florida. Our winds only reached about 25 to 30 miles an hour, hardly in a rain. I am way inland, about two hours southwest of Orlando. When you build on the coast, expect mother nature to take over, even when you build coastal inland, the closer you are to the water the worst it’s going to be for you and your home, and the flooding that’s happening. I’ll be praying for everybody just not in Florida, but for all the other states too.
