- Remember that short "I LIVE IN YOUR HOUSE"??? Patrick and Amanda sat down to talk nitty-gritty with behind-the-scenes chats about the meaning of the movie, favorite moments, and even exclusive BTS and bloopers.
NOTE: Patrick loves editors, and he is not one. He tried his best. We hope you like it.

Valerie being a queer woman is so important for me and made it so relatable, its one of those things that most queer people and women/fem presenting people in general have experienced, this weird encounter where you dont feel safe but its not enough to break the facade of friendliness (especially because you dont know where that will lead), but then when you try to explain it to people they don't see it, "oh I'm sure he's just a friendly neighbour", you even second guess throughout the film if this guy is even a problem or if she's just paranoid, up until hes inside the house in the middle of the night
I used the Reeds monologue for my monologue assignment and passed the class with a 98 :))
I lived inside my professor's house and all I got was jail time. 😐😂

For a sequel I would love Angela’s character and Reid to become slightly neighborly chummy in a strange way and Maya ends up inviting him to dinner. Everything is fine, but Valerie is obviously freaked out and notices that Reid knows where a lot of the things are in the house, but still with a layer of plausible deniability

The intersection of comedians who excel at horror will never fail to amaze me.
The idea that came to me watching it for the first time was that the neon colors were almost part of him taunting her. Like, he's SO OBVIOUS to look at wearing such bright, neon colors, and why can't you find him in your house if he's so obvious? Like, adding to her paranoia about him.
Can't wait for the sequel: "I died in your house"

As a 16 year old aspiring film director, videos like this are so amazing to watch and learn from, I Live In Your House was a real inspiration and I've now got my own project in the works - also, I did Reid's coyote monologue for drama class and it went over really well, keep doing what you guys are doing!!

I love hearing artists talk about their process making a piece of art. this is a treat!
Honestly, I interpreted this movie like a commentary on what it feels like to be diagnosed with a mental illness (or any chronic illness). Just knowing it's there can ruin your attitude, your willingness to fight, your independence, and your sanity sometimes. Knowing it's been there all along, but you never knew any different, makes you feel like there are other things you're missing - like someone else is living in your mind or body. How could I not realize that being terrified during every event of my life wasn't normal? How could I just not know that there's an autoimmune disease that turns my body against itself?
Sometimes, it really does feel like someone is living in the house.
bizarre hearing Patrick talking about The Process seriously but i love it
The film really captured me because of how I could relate it to my OCD experience. You can latch on to an intrusive thought and let it overwhelm you. Despite knowing how irrational it is, rational explanations only feed the OCD. You don't get any peace until you accept uncertainty and the uncomfortable feelings that come with it.
I live in your house is the only thing I’ve watched of patrick’s and oh my god it’s such a relief to see him act as a normal human 😂
that alternate ending feels like it would be great for another kind of film or sequel, i'd hate to see something so perfectly ominous be scrapped completely

this is exactly what I thought, like she is so used to her partner talking to her while she sleeps it's just an automatic response now
I love the film SO much the coyote monologue was CRAZY i just absolutely love the energy of it
Loved this sm. The line "I live in your house *now*" sticks with me because it's almost innocuous, but the "now" part threw me so hard when I first watched it. I really hope you make more films because this one was amazing
Oh my god. I thought about a sequel when you were talking about sequels wherein a new couple moves in the house, and Amanda's the one outside the fence. Her goal is to get the people out of that house because she believes that Reed's still in there. "Someone lives in your house!" And maybe in the end, she fails and the cops get called on her. When she leaves and goes back to her new home, Reed appears behind her without her knowing.
This is an excellent idea! and lots of great allegory possibilities about the cycle of abuse, getting trapped in patterns and repeating bad habits, falling off the wagon, contagious illness...!
I love Shirley Jackson's short stories. I always thought her stories would be so cool to make into short films. When I read them I was seeing them as short films in my head. I totally see the inspiration and loved your short film.

the reed jumpsuit thing is so cool!!! I would always notice how the color of the jumpsuit would kinda be on his sunglasses (i think it’s the most obvious with the pink color) AND THE WHOLE IDEA IS JUST SO COOL I LOVE IT
loved the film and looooved hearing amanda's takes on what she thought valerie believed/how valerie perceives the world around her. brought a whole new layer to the short that i hadn't considered before :]
The film being inspired by listening to Shirley Jackson makes ALL the sense.
Building off Amandas sequel concept, I love the idea of them being on vacation and she's still obsessing over this guy so she thinks she sees him everywhere. Her wife just wants to have a good time, but she just can't drop the thought that she's being pursued by this phantom of a guy who she thought lived in her house. Everytime she has a friendly interaction with someone she sees it as Reid, but the wife just sees it as a normal person. Then maybe they come home and their house actually had gotten broken into and she uses that as confirmation that Reid was there the whole time.

I have an idea that bounces of Amanda’s idea for the sequel:
Valorie and her wife go on vacation and she catches a glimpse of him and doesn’t tell her wife and she’s slowly seeing him more and more and eventually tries to catch him (potentially running into a crowd or place where she sees him) her wife gets worried and makes her confess and then after that she starts seeing Reed as other people like the hotel reception man (who isn’t reed but in her eyes looks and sounds like reed) Valorie runs away scared and her wife chases after her. The cliffhanger of the short would be Valorie and her wife on their hotel bed and their having a convo with her wife comforting her. She turns around to look at her and she suddenly sees her wife as reed. And because of the close proxemics of the bed I feel that would be really scary!
Genuinely Amanda and Patrick, are INCREDIBLE actors.

Omg they thought 15 minutes was too long? I wanted it to be longer lol I loved it!
I feel like the yellow to orange to red to white of the jumpsuits Reed/Reid(?) wears is like heat, like he is getting warmer, like getting closer to Val. I will say I thought the jumpsuits were green, orange, purple and then white when I watched it, but hearing Patrick say the colors made me think that maybe his character was getting closer and closer to Val. Such a good short film and congrats on making it!!!

While watching the film I was definitely under the assumption that Reed was frogging, but then I sent it to my dad and while we were discussing it my dad mentioned that he thought Valerie was hallucinating Reed until Maya shows up, but my brain took it a step further and now my theory is that Valerie was hallucinating both Reed AND Maya
"I never feel like I'm better at what I do, I feel like I know more" that's the ticket I think! I'm highly interested in writing and filmmaking, and coming from a performing arts background already (stage/opera/music), this pretty much sums up my entire experience thus far. You're always learning, and just through that you're already better. Knowledge is key! Thanks for this video, I really loved the short, and I look forward to wherever this story goes (and whatever y'all do next)!!

okay the idea that Valerie is a food critic or writer adds so much more potential for me - like for a sequel Valerie could be at a food event and she's talking with her peers about how she's just moved and someone asks if she is enjoying the neighbourhood and she goes "yeah but there's this weird guy who tells me he lives in my house lol" and then in walks Reed Vilhelm and everyone's like "oh my goodness it is the esteemed Reed Vilhelm who I am really close friends with and who could never do any wrong, anyway Valerie you were saying?" and she has to deal with this reality where no one will believe her and goes to great lengths to prove that he lives in her house
As a wannabe director this film and this q&a really inspires me, thank you SO much

Just watched the film today, the part that made me the most anxious was when the wife showed up at the end and started talking to Reed. I thought she was going to say her name or Amanda’s character’s name and it was somehow going to doom them both

Ok here's my theory! Reid never entered the house until the final scene. His whole point was making a point to Valerie that he's capable of bothering her without even doing anything. I see Reid as a metaphor for mental health issues. That it didn't plague you as bad until you had the diagnosis and you were aware of it. "so just tell yourself I'm gone". Then he enters the house a) to f with her and b) to prove that there's nothing actually wrong with her and she's not crazy
AND "did I come with the house or did I come with you" is like nature vs nurture
