Id like to suggest an episode where you talk about the folklore of the town or ghost stories in the area.... It would be really cool!!! @Making It happen Vlog
I was stationed there in the Navy, my squadron, VRC-50 Foo Dogs were in the first hanger at the bottom of the hill towards the ocean, it's still there but abandoned. I had a room up on the hill in one of those barracks that are now condos. There used to be wild boar up there that were huge and had large tusks, I'm not sure what happened to them. I ride my bike up there a lot and haven't seen them, I hope they didn't end up on the dinner table. I live in Binictican now and the monkeys aren't as aggressive as the ones up in Cubi pt.
Why is no one taking about the ice cream truck music that was scary 😭, the moment nelly said that they shouldn't continue anymore was the funniest part of the video though😆
More than eight years ago, my family oftenly visited Subic for beaches, duty free, to see those bats and the monkeys. It was always fun for my young kids with monkey encounters. I remember that time a dominant male who keep chasing wannabes though having only one complete arm. One hand was missing possibly due to accident, but that did not deter him be king monkey of his time.
If I'm not mistaken, that area used to be the US military camp (residences). Like where the US military families lived back when the US forces were still in the Philippines.. The US Military base in Subic was shut down in 1991, and last US forces departed in Nov of 1992. I'm not sure who took over the houses or what they were used for after that, or if even lived in at all. I could be wrong. But anyway, enjoy your new home 😊 and take care around the monkeys, they can be very persistent especially if they see you carrying bags or anything. Your dinosaur commentary is too funny 😆💕
Residences particularly the high ranking officials of US Military. My grandfather used to work in Subic back in 70's 80's until they left in early 90's. Lolo always bring me in Subic Naval Base every Thanks giving and Christmas, I got to try some classic American food like turkey, burger, steaks, Ice cream and all that. I love seeing jet fighter planes, ships and cargo aircrafts during US Military days. Ahhh what a good time.
Brings back some memories. That’s where my husband and I got married and our daughter was born in the hospital. The houses are old Navy housing. Surprised it is still standing.
I remember something similar happened to us during a company trip to Subic a few years back. Also got chased by monkeys haha. There is a place in Subic where you can find roosting Golden Crowned Flying Foxes, one of the biggest bats in the world. Biniktikan Drive if I'm not mistaken, near the airport. Really awesome sight to behold!
I'm so jealous of you guys... Am here in the Philippines but never been there. Such a beautiful, fresh and adventurous place... Wish I can still go there...Am 54😢
That ice cream sound in the distance sounded pleasant and eery at the same time. I swear it was about to be a haunted scene. Nothing says, "I'm city folk" than when the sound of silence ends up feeling creepy.😅
Hi Nelly & Mike (ladies 1st which i know u don't mind hehehe) ; I'm from Orlando Florida.. i've been quietly watching your vlogs 4 2years now... 3things.. both of you have GREAT CHARACTER, GREAT VIDEOS & A GREAT LOVE FOR LIFE & WHATEVER IT HAS TO OFFER... stay safe & healthy, God bless you & your family... & all d best 2ur future plans... D people in you adopted country loves you... Regards from the Sunshine State!😇😇😇
Tsik... I remembered when Cubi was still booming with commerce, those buildings weren't like that. I remembered there was a PX Duty-Free branch there which was turned to a Toy Kingdom outlet later on for there's an area there, near the church, which was once upon a time hold golden-crowned flying fox. Tourists often flock there to see these creatures. But due to the heavy flocking of people there, those bats, later on, moved to a different area inside Subic Bay. The last time I saw them inside was beside the airport near the dispensary office. Hey, Nelly and Mike, if you can, you can visit the Binictican or Kalayaan area it is much nicer there.
When i was there too... about 16 years ago... I saw a group of Huge Huge Bats same size of a typical Human. At first i thought It was a black BAG hanging on the trees.
We love Subic, thank you Mike and Nelly for this, it brings back good memories, we lived in Upper Cubi, for two years, so peaceful , and yes, amazing view. Stay safe.
Subic has a lot to offer, like zoobic safari, ocean adventure, where you can watch dolphin shows, etc. and yes Nelly, those fresh air in such a long time 😂
This is why people shouldn't give them food. Some of theae monkeys have learned to throw rocks to houses to ask for food. My aunt lives in Binictican btw thats why I know.
That area was used to be a US Navy base, There is a big US Militaryhospital in yhat area, i was there in 1987 when it is still in US Navy, those were the days, days of sailor
I imagine seeing Pennywise holding his red balloon grinning in the middle of the road with that creepy distant ice cream truck music playing on the background
You guys need to go to Inflatable Island if they're open. It's the biggest inflatable waterpark in Asia. Also , the pamulaklakin forest trail as a help to the the indigenous people in subic.
I was a member of the PAF acceptance team when Subic was turned over to the Philippine govt. If not mistaken, that's the place where the US Marine Corps detachment is located.
Missing Subic...😔 Back in the day, I used to spend my summer and December vacation there when it used to be US base and before Mt Pinatubo eruption. My Aunt's house was at Kalayaan. It's a jungle in there. Love it! 💜
i used to teach in forest view subic, indeed monkeys everywhere. They have this road sign ( beware of monkeys crossing) and avoid leaving food from your balcony, for sure the monkeys will get hold of it but subic is very nice, it feels like a totally different country. enjoy your stay Mikely.
Been there done that Mike & Nelly but we were in a car someplace near The Cove beach? We stop to stare at all the monkeys coming to us. Awesome! Subic is huge being a former American Naval base. The base is 262 square miles about the size of Singapore and built by Spain in 1885 as their Naval base and subsequently occupied by the US according to Wikipedia and US departed last December 1992.
Mike & Nelly, yes you are right, your psyche is familiar to the bustling sounds of the big city like Manila. It feels weird to you guys to see a place that became almost abandon & nature took over. Wild animals like monkeys are inhabiting the place, & lurking in the shadows of those wild trees! Funny, I was following & watching your every moves, anticipating, that there will be a monkey or a group of few, popping from the top of the trees & their hiding place. Great video folks, & thanks!
My dad used to work at the US Naval base in Olongapo, I think that's the old military base housing village. It looks familiar to me because we used to go inside the base when I was a kid.
haha! been there done that...when i was stationed there at cubi point, we had physical training 3 times a week and we would do runs from on top of the hill down to the airport side and beaches....along the way we would encounter troops of these monkeys. never ran so fast in my life LOL! nelly, those "condo" buildings you were referring to used to be barracks or quarters for single military personnel and i used to live in one of those buildings until i got married a couple years after i reported to my duty station along those hilly areas you were walking in.
I love your sense of humor guys. This was fun to watch. Like a horror movie😂👀 you’re in planet of the apes movie. I gives you’re not running there anymore. 😳🤣
Subic used to the American Naval Base, hence a lot of abandoned houses and lots of fences. Monkeys obviously came down wondering where the former tenants went 😊😊😊😊
Very creepy walk 😅 but awesome place. I might have run back seeing those monkeys. But i was laughing when u turn around just for the sound of the ice cream truck. Creepy indeed. 😂😂😂 I love your adventure today.
The place you were walk around is the Subic Naval Base, the biggest naval base of the Americans in asia. And the forest around it preserves by the Americans also they call it JEST CAMP Jungle Environment Survival Test. There they train for jungle Survival by the Philippines Marines and some other locals the Aetas.Subic Naval Base is a part of the Clark Air Base for U.S.Air Force near them is Basa Air Base for Philippines Air Force.
I guess you meant to say former US Naval Base, lol! There are no more US bases in the Philippines right now. They shut down the US military bases in Subic and Clark since 1992. The current Philippine Constitution prohibits and doesn't allow any foreign military base in the Philippines.
yes, that is right. you really have to bring sticks everytime you walk and never stare at them . Living here in Binictican, another housing area in Subic Bay.
Basic rule in Subic "Do not feed them" they might keep on coming or learn to intrude private property. Eventually they might attack in a large group or army and could create chaos there. You should must also witness the wild flying fox there (huge bat).
I remember my first time in Subic we stayed in a place like that too, a suburbs in the middle of the rain forest. I wasn't aware that there are wild monkeys in the area. As I was taking my morning coffee in the veranda and also sucking on the morning fresh air, I heard some rustling in the trash can. I checked it out, I thought it was a stray cat or something, but a monkey leapt out of the trash can and screamed. I screamed too and spilled my coffee all over me. Just when I was about to calm down and keep my composure, a crow let out a loud squawk (also not aware that there are crows in the area) and scared the hell out of me again. And spilled the rest of my coffee. 😂
hearing a creepy ice cream truck song in the middle of nowhere..and immediately turning around.. good choice haha you will survive horror movies..( but guilty i kinda want to know where tht sound came from)
All the same colors of Blue and White for the buildings + the houses being identical makes it highly possible you were walking around the Subic Bay Naval Air Station Family Housing from the US Navy base that was there. That is why the fences are in disrepair. The base closed in 1992 due to Pinatubo hastening the base closures. Good news, an Australian Shipping Firm and the US Navy just got approved to run Subic Bay again and it will create 33,000 new jobs in the coming years. For the local Pinoy there, buy the property right now, because it's value will skyrocket.
Try to visit Subic Bay Tourism office as I'm not too sure which places are open at this pandemic time. Nevertheless, one of my favorite things to do there is simply walking along Water front Road at the very early morning while looking at those beautiful hotels, coastline, and the whole land/seascapes.
I missed SBMA. I experienced that same feeling. I used to stay there at Crown Peak and wander into those dark foggy deserted road. SBMA is really a beautiful place.
SBMA is NOT a place but a government agency that manages the Subic Bay Freeport and the Special Economic Zone! SBMA actually stands for Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. You can just say Subic or Subic Bay if you're referring to the name of the place!😂
Hello guy's I'm always following your vlog it's always nice to see you hopping or jumping to other places.Anyway since you are friends with George and Lucy I also follow their vlogs too but since lately how come I haven't seen any new vlogs of them thank you.
I think you are at Morong part of SBMA.. You can go swimming to all hands beach resort or Kamana beach. Then visit Ocean adventure.. 😁 And about the monkeys.. They get wild because some tourist give them food. So, when they see people they become excited and run after them.. 😁🤗

@ 1:37 Those "old" houses used to be US Navy housing for base personnel and their families stationed there. Those monkeys used to steal our food left in our facility vehicles. Lost mine a few times.
Yes , we also here in the USA during the pandemic wild animals came towards the cities also....weird...in my backyard we have Black Bears large HUGE ones! & for the first time we saw a Fisher cat, it is like a very vicious climbing bear, & they attack them also & R fearless...I reported both... Hi fr Litchfield County, Connecticut , USA (citbank30secsAd;MassGen'L30secsAd)
I live in subic before when the american soldiers live there. That place is very beautiful spacially the beach. Mike n Nelly you try to go to grande island very beautifu.
How about the fruit bats have you seen them?? They hang from the trees during daytime and you can see them starting to be active and fly off to forage at dusk returning early in the morning to roost and sleep in the same trees. These roosting trees can be found at the back of the airport terminal
Looking forward to your video on them. There are 2 varieties of bats that you will see, but the rarer of the 2 is the golden crowned flying fox due to being an endangered specie. Stay safe and healthy Mike and Nelly. Both of you are a source of hope and inspiration.
Subic bay was the naval base of u.s before they left the Philippines since the mt.pinatubo eruption. Thats why so developed and has strict policies in there. :)
You are brave! Haha! But a little bit of history. Subic and Clark are former US Military Bases. Hence you see all those creepy looking abandoned buildings. Lots of ghost in those area too, lol!

Subic has a lot to offer. It has a Tiger Safari, Crocodile Farm, and an Ocean Park 😊
And there's a road going to Bataan, a shortcut.
It's not closed during pandemic? My friends planning to visit. 😁
Exciting, suspenseful walk in a place of fresh clean air.

Most suspenseful/fun walkathon I've watched! Great job Mike and Nelly. Your personalities are really such a good vibe
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Look for the fruit bats in the same Cubi Point vicinity. During daytime they are all, thousands of them hanging upside down on those giant trees.
We too, chased by these bad monkeys when walking in the morning, very scared 😨

“Mike they’re following us!” says Nelly. It sounded like you’re being followed by a gang of thugs on skid row only to find out it’s just monkeys! 😂😂
Wow, that's good to see monkeys in the wild. Here in Australia Kangaroos, rabbits, different parrots are the common animals you see in the wild.
Ice cream truck plus abandoned houses perfect horror movie or zombie movie hahaha

Oh my… I suddenly remembered the time when Nelly was in Bali… when a monkey pulled her 😱
I went to Subic 29 years ago yes there's a lot of monkeys
Hahahaha i have seen those
Gave them food
And saw those big bats too
Mike and Nelly: They are creepy.
Monkeys: They are creepier.
LOL.
The place looks like a zombie land from the movie Walking Dead, it's scary.
You encountered the monkeys 🤣. You should also look for the Bayakans. These are fruit bats that are huge but harmless.
Oh no! Be careful. Stay safe
There's an island there called Macalaguas, it's pretty nice
What a place man so peaceful and green
You should go to subic safari

How about the fruit bats have you seen them?? They hang from the trees during daytime and you can see them starting to be active and fly off to forage at dusk returning early in the morning to roost and sleep in the same trees. These roosting trees can be found at the back of the airport terminal
not yet, but we heard they are huge!
