I really appreciate how in Mexico you spend the night at the hospital where you can be monitored. I had my gall bladder removed in SoCal and was sent home 2 hours after surgery eventhough I was throwing up from the anesthesia. My health insurance would not approve an night in the hospital. I did not have an extra $5,500.00 to spend the night on my dime.
Great video, KJ and Craig, and very helpful. I had a similar positive experience, on a much smaller scale, here at Hospital Ajijic. I’m happy to have experienced this level of care while I am still relatively healthy. It encourages me for my future healthcare journey in Mexico. I think your video will assure others of the good healthcare available to us in Mexico.
Let me give you a bit of perspective from a Mexican point of view on healthcare in Mexico. I am a permanent resident and married to a Mexican. So when I had a syncope event (I passed out), they picked me up in a Red Cross ambulance and took me to the IMSS (social security) hospital. Long story short: five days in the hospital including all of the tests and medicines (both in the hospital and after), a visit to a cardiology specialist, and a visit to a neurologist. The total cost was around $500 pesos because I was treated under the regimen of Medicina Bienestar. We also saw a young foreign tourist who injured himself being treated. One of the pillars of Humanismo Mexicano: healthcare is a right, not merchandise. There are three people in two households in my neighborhood who suffered from cancer (two in remission and one still in treatment). They still live in their homes. My daughter in the US had an operation and now lives with her in-laws.
@@TrulyRemarkableLife OK, I'm going to give some 'learning to be Mexican' challenges porque cabrones me caen bien. 1. Investigate who was Chavela Vargas. 2. Understand her famous quote, "Nosotros los mexicanos nos nacen donde nos da la rechingada gana.
SO glad for your result and that you didn't wait. Mama's gall bladder ruptured just as she sat down for dinner Christmas Day 1990, with 15 at the table. The infection was so severe she was under induced coma until mid-March before surgery could be performed.
Is always great to have friends helping with translate; trying to explain your Dr what your symptoms are or to a plumber whats the problem with a pipe is a little bit more than a casual conversation.
So glad to hear it all worked out KJ. Thanks for making this video and this has been our experience as well in San Miguel De Allende Joya Hospital. Shout out to Mexico❤
Love you guys! And getting mentioned in a gallbladder video has been my life’s achievement to date!!😂 And I told you to make the gallbladder into an earring set!
Glad to hear that everything went so well! How awful that you had the stone for so long, good grief. I have heard good things about medical care in Mexico, it's good to know that it is true!
I appreciate you sharing this experience. My own story of getting a gallbladder surgery back in the late 80's was a nightmare in comparison. my younger sister had her surgery after the method was changed and had something more like you did with a overnight stay, got a bit loopy on IV drugs and tried to leave the hospital during the night following, but she was happy, and it worked out great for her. Glad you are feeling better and YES you look so relaxed and happy ... Hope to meet you guys in Person during the New Year, maybe at Ernie's meet-up January... Love your channel and everything you share.
I am so glad that everything went well and you are on the road to recovery, K.J.! In the 19 years we have been accessing the private medical system in MX (Chetumal & Merida), the level of care at its poorest far exceeded the best experience in US system at a fraction of the cost. Of course MX surely has its bad actors and that is why finding care through referral method is so important. Have a great holiday season!
@@TrulyRemarkableLife And as you both mature like fine wine, you will find your medical libraries taking a bigger portion of your files, but that's a good thing! I have DVD's of both my gastrointestinal tract since 2018 and my brain after an infection last April, among all of the oversized X-rays of other things. You are truly blessed that you took action in time.
Wow KJ: What a great Support Team You had inside and outside of the Hospital......great partner, friends and medical team. What a blessing! Glad You are doing well.
Glad that’s been taken care and you’re feeling better! Those stones will make for a FaBuLoUs brooch or pair of earrings 😂😂. Sure hoping we can take a trip down soon and see more of this wonderful place y’all call home. 🤗
What an awesome adventure into such a supportive, positive, successful medical journey. I valued all the topics you covered - very helpful and encouraging. And yes, you do look younger!
So glad to hear you are okay and took care of this in time. I am curious to hear you say they removed it. Do you mean the entire gallbladder or just the stone? It's an organ we don't need???
@@karlapatterson4474 Yes, they took the whole gallbladder. It's a routine procedure. You "need it" in that it stores a digestive enzyme used to break down fats, but your body will begin to compensate after it is removed, so you can live without it.
Thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad to hear everything turned out well! This is an important message for everyone - especially men. One of the reasons women live longer than men is that many men don't address their health issues in a timely manner. I have experienced this in my own life, my family's life, and during 20 years in the healthcare field. Even though I was high risk for skin cancer I put off going to see a dermatologist for years. I finally went and I had a malignant melanoma on my leg. Fortunately, it had not spread to other parts of my body but if I had waited any longer, well who knows what would have happened? Men, don't put off regular health checkups and get those screeings done! Wishing everyone a healthy New Year!

In at 9am.....out by 12pm. Thank you for this video...its nice to know you are treated nice and not like a number.😊
Really glad to hear that it worked out well. The after video of you at home does show how much better you must feel. I hope that continues! Did you ever have a second doctor consult, or did you stop after you found and were happy with Dr. Valenzuela?
@@VegasWayneW I set up a call with a 2nd surgeon, but I met and heard soooo many positive reviews about Dr V that I just went with him. Plus his willingness to take his day off to do the surgery told me the kind of Dr he was and I felt 100% at ease from the moment I met him.
Glad you're feeling better and your surgery was a success, but I think you should have given us a general amount of how much you paid given your disclaimer that it's different for everyone. It will also, of course, vary from hospital to hospital. And as someone who lives in Mexico, I'm surprised you didn't discuss that you have to pay for everything up front.
@suzanneshelton7002 thank you for your comments. We didn't publish It because it does vary... also we have to be cautious because this video may be visible for a long time to come and the price may become outdated I wouldn't want to mislead anyone.
