Weird how it only ever goes one way. A popular mod on mod io that made all soldiers male got deleted by a "developer". Perhaps WH40K included female marines to avoid the same fate?
@@M_y_st Nah, not that deep. iirc they just adapted the xcom sprites. They even explicitly warn you somewhere about the sprites not being 100% 1:1 canon.
To be fair, it is a single number in a file. You change "50" to "0" I absolutely agree it shouldn't be any, let alone 50% and certain people act like cancer, but its a turbo easy fix.
Nobody makes mods like 40k nerds. These people will stay up all night painting elaborate scratch marks and rust spots; this is like a quick side project.
Your intros are so good! Watched a few of your CDDA/Elysium/Dominion/Xcom videos and i really like the way you narrate them from introduction to overview to actual execution. You always seem to have a thorough plan you keep following without being too dry and that is really nice for my ADHD riddled brain. Now you introduced me to this gem of a mod and im having a blast discovering all the nooks and crannies. Would love too see more CDDA and Rosigma for sure!

There is music that plays in the background at 14:00. To my great surprise I realized I was listening to the "player's turn" music for Vandal Hearts on the playstation one, a game that is over 25 years old... I hope I'm not the only one to notice that. It is a very fitting soundtrack considering it was also made for another turn based strategy game.
Running away especially matters when you are against Necrons as the guard. Plasma will not save you from a heavy platform atomising your ass, numbers be damned.
@cowEman How early you are talking? Early sources also point to the opposite being true. Where it was tried but ultimately led to many failures. Thus why it was abandoned. It has been unchanged from until now. But please tell me how we need more wokeness in beloved franchises. I'll entertain you.

So, as someone who never really played the original Xcom and am casually interested in playing through with a mod on my Steam Deck, which would you recommend: Xcom Files, X-Piratez, or Rosigma?
To be honest they are all so different. Xpiratez is the best but it’s a complete overhaul and very different. XFiles is more vanilla themed. 40k is more straightforward gameplay wise and MUCH shorter than the other two so you can reasonably complete it.
@@CairnEnjoyer Thanks! It sounds like it might be the safest then to see whether I bounce off the older gameplay style. If I do, at least there's still these vids!
I’d say if you just want to get into old xcom, picking up openxcom and maybe OpenXcom Extended and playing the origional UFO game could be a good idea. I’d very fun and much more straightforward than anything else.
You do realize you can just not do night missions right? =P Just wait until the area is in the sun on the globe and then attack, even if you already have a dropship there you can just have it hold its position for a while before engaging. Sure some missions might go away before the sun comes up, but it'll save you a lot of headaches.
This mod is borderline heretical because it has female space marines. At least no male sisters of battle.
and also cats. They have cats.

He IS Alpha Legion so it makes sense that it doesn't make sense
honestly, best mod/game for 40k
At Chaos Gate… nice to see the fans making the actual sequels to it.
The Brutal AI mod makes it even better
Makes it more realistic
Makes it incredibly campy and even more time consuming
I like how on second mission you already have someone wounded on your first real turn

Oh boy, Kino from my now favorite XCOM youtube creator.
I prefer playing the IG campaign as i get my boys, the Steel Legion.
man IDK what it is but you make me laugh so hard
Anyone know what the song being played is in the beginning part of the video?
Its from the old 40k epic game. Searching Commissar Holt will get you there.
Its got an amazing sound track.
Or
Glare - void in blue, slowed down version.
I was listening through dead speakers lol...

Female space marines were cannon in the 80s. Hope you're not one of those people who cries about faction's genders getting retconned.

Wow that last mission was insane! Shame you didn't get the W. Was a fun mission to watch.
I think a win was not possible there by that point. Maybe if I had been more careful clearing the area, but I underestimated the number of enemies.

Glare - Void in Blue, but a slowed down version

Do not know about Rosigma, but Xpiratez is simply great.
