    That album quite literally saved my life, and I'll never be without it. I've only recently found your tremendous coverage of industrial-and other genres-and immediately recognized your genuine intelligence and love for music. I'm more than a little interested in reading anything you've published, and would appreciate a link. Never relent. Thank you!

    My first experience with Ministry was walking into my college dorm on the first day of freshman year in 1991 and there was a punk in the lobby listening to "Thieves" on his shitty boombox. I was NOT into hard rock at all, and was actually listening to lame shit like EMF and Jesus Jones at the time, but I was immediately intrigued. As soon as my mom and dad left, I ran back up to the lobby and asked to borrow his tape. I knew then that college was going to leave me a VERY changed young man.
    STILL not into heavy music as a general rule, but Ministry, Death Grips, and Faith No More are the holy trinity for me.

    gawd. it totally changed me. at the time i was listening to thrash and punky stuff. I was at a friend's, who had a great sound system. i had just taken a bucket bong and my friend stuck it on. I was blown away by the sound and power over anything anything i'd ever heard before. Al Jourgensen & Paul Barker introduced me to concept of the producer as well as the band.
    This introduced me industrial music. If i hadn't heard this, then i'd never would have found Meat Beat Manifesto not long after, which ultimately switched me to techno and rave in the early 90s. I'm into a hugely wide and eclectic range of music now, but Al introduced me to the concept of the producer.I now follow producers more than bands.
    I'm not sure if you've heard much early El-P, but he's the producer that took really dark, tough industrial music into Hip-Hop. Very much Al of Hip-Hop for me. Thanks. Good to know that this album his had the same impact on others as it had on me.
    Thanks......It is the best release......although Twitch is fantastic
    PS. Great review

      Thanks, man! This album just exists in its own air, and it's tough to explain if you weren't there in the moment. And I agree, I'm much more keen to follow a producer through their productions and remixes, etc. You start to learn that a distinct sound is very much a producer and not so much a band. Not always the case, of course, but it's usually that way.

    Great watch 😎👍 Many thanks 🤘
    After the teaser at the end of your last video for “Twitch” it made me go back to listen to this album,(LORAH), in full again. And damn… I had forgotten how well it works as one cohesive piece after years of just putting odd tracks on various streaming playlists.
    I love the passion that you inject into your talks & it’s always fantastic to listen to someone who heard an album when it was still fresh. I’m old enough to remember buying albums just based off the cover art, what label a band was signed to, a guest musician or because you liked the previous release but you had no idea what the current release was going to sound like. It still amazes me that kids today don’t realise that not only was there no internet or social media to recommend an artist, oftentimes mainstream media would not cover releases from anything that wasn’t considered to be “chart friendly”🙄 . It sounded like you got a big surprise when you first heard this record but I’m glad you appreciated the new change of direction 😁!
    Once again, thanks for the vid, stay safe & much love from the UK😎🇬🇧🤘

    Had to comeback and comment on your remarks about Al. Actually when I listened to what he is saying in recent years (there is a few interviews with him on YT) and having in mind his pretty hardcore lifestyle for many years two things come to my mind. First he is a superman to survive it all as not an ordinary man could take it all without major demage to his physical and mental health. Second, I thought he talks more sober and sensible things then the most sober man 😂 and last album of Ministry Moral Hygiene is a decent album pretty original with a good message. It came as a surprise to me, as I expected rather more of the same as series of previous albums.

    • @occasionalfeelgood23
      @occasionalfeelgood23  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I remember my dad blaring Hizbollah and the title track to bug me out, Al was a genius while he was a user of drugs becuz they opened his mind of creativity and although I wish all of his albums were this freaking awesome but I'm also happy he got clean from some of those drugs. Read his biography it was great!!!

    Spot on review and thoughts on it !!! , it really IS Ministry's darkest release .. i got it maybe 92' or 93' ..got it with Psalm 69 actually , and LORAH was more interesting to me , just drew you in / no thrills!! Good to know it was all analog , shocked actually .. Funny story on Abortive 🤣🤣 Traded it !!! dude i liked Abortive ..it was ALMOST out of place that's how WEIRD this record is ..wild to know it was from the Twitch era ... and it was made BEFORE the Columbia Space explosion in 1986.. dark coincidence i suppose .. thanks for saying that about Adrian it does seem Al learned a lot from him on recording , producing during twitch .. DIG these talks , learning cool stuff !!

    Another excellent video with real talk, here are a few of my general comments on it:
    1. Ironic you talk about cancel culture given the subject album - I’m sure Al J would have much to say on the topic
    2. I love that the video for Rape and Honey has a naked Jello Biafra on stage with Ministry.
    3. Agree 100% Sire didn’t know what to do with the album - either did music video channels who classified them as alternative until Psalm 69 came out.
    4. Am I a weak person because I feel like cancel culture has gotten so bad that sometimes I feel bad for even thinking outside of what is PC, never mind making a comment on it.
    Cheers.

      @@occasionalfeelgood23 I live in Toronto, Canada and I think it's important to point out the (obvious?) fact that cancel culture affects you greatly even if you are not directly involved. Case and point: you talked about "if the channel ever got bigger" and the fact you even mentioned it shows how wrong that is. It would be one thing if you were spreading a form of hate but why should you have to even be "concerned" about content like swearing or talking about general things that irk you? And lets be honest, I'm sure most hurt feelings would come from Millennials and at 46 years old I am getting tired of feeling I have to apologize for an opinion on something. I like your videos for the music but also cause you bring a breath of fresh air.
      P.S. You should do a video on Pop Will Eat Itself if you dig them

    • @occasionalfeelgood23
      @occasionalfeelgood23  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jasonhann7949 100% agree, it's ludicrous that anyone would need to even discuss it. I keep waiting for this slice of history to go by the wayside, and I hope it happens. Cancel culture is all rooted in consumerism anyway, and that's another reason I can't stand how everyone is motivated by money. I'm your age, and while I don't mind changing along with the times (we all do this at any age anyway), I do feel like the cancel culture is a very small thing that gets inflated to absurd degrees. Most everyone I talk to think canceling people out is stupid, but social media exacerbates it all. I don't think people who cancel people out even necessarily believe in doing it, they just know it's what is expected of them. It's a dangerously fascist way of living, and that's what freaks me out the most. But, it's a common theme in human history. I'll have to talk more about this in future videos.
      I love PWEI! I have everything they've ever done on vinyl, so making a video on them would be easy. I'll put that one on the back burner for sure.

    I know loads of people will come at me for this but I feel Al/Ministry fell off at Psalm 69. The death dirge drudgery lost me.
    I came up in Chicago as an 80s teen going to Medusa's etc. So I was Inevitably a Twitch stan. But wound up on Grateful Dead tours in 1990. So my vibe shifted for sure. I fell out of the darkness and anger that stimulated my response to the evil stuph.
    Never stopped loving the hard stuff though. I still play Butthole Surfers, Bad Brains, Ministry etc... on a rotating basis. But yet to deep dive later Ministry.

      @Occasional Feelgood well, I think it is now. Yes, that's Barker we see sometimes on bass in these clips and I conclude sometimes Rieflin played the moog or whatever and on drums is Jeff Ward who played in a lot of good shit like Lard and 10,000 Hom DJs. But he killed himself in '93. And those peeps whining about the ef word, I am grateful we can still say it! In the land of the free, some of us have to watch ourselves and what vernacular we use, no? Everything's Ikea. And the fake outrage because someone backs this or endorses that. Funny you mention Bad News Bears. I felt compelled to watch it again recently. I absolutely couldn't believe it. I was born 1970.
