- Recorded in Ibiza, Denon DJ invited French producer and DJ Sébastien Léger to showcase a hybrid DJ performance at the world-famous Destino Pacha resort. A common struggle with live DJ performances is the ability to synchronise external production equipment without the need for a laptop and an array of MIDI cables and SYNC boxes.
At the heart of the performance is Denon DJ's SC6000 Media Player running Engine DJ 2.0 (OS) - the worlds first standalone DJ platform to support Ableton LINK. Connected over WIFI the SC6000 shares BPM information via Ableton LINK with the AKAI FORCE. Seb has pre-produced MIDI clips saved in the FORCE that he then launches triggering an external Behringer MODEL D Synthesizer for that classic acid sound, and dreamy pads and melodies via the Behringer TD-3 Synthesizer. Seb can then perform on the synthesisers in perfect time manipulating the MIDI clips whilst adding layers of percussion and drum rolls via the classic Roland TR-707 Drum Machine.
We caught up with Sébastien to find out more about his setup and how he uses it to be more creative in his sets combining production elements into a DJ set.
Ableton Link is the future I think in 10 years that will also appear on the cdjs 😂 thx denon for the best update ever❤️
Super cool feature! Im trying to connect a Prime 4 to Ableton on a Macbook to be controlled by Push. Is there a way that besides having the bpm synced also have the tempo quantized?
💥 Great Sir!
The fact you discontinued the Vinyl turntable kills me. Dude bring it back. Seriously. I need a pair
Mega 😃✅
How is the Akai Force connected to Denon? Is it into Denon's mixer? If so, what physical cables? MIDI? 1/4"? Or Is there another soundboard mixer that the Force and Denon mixer both go into?
I'm pretty sure Ableton syncs them through the engine OS when enabled
Doesn’t the Denon mixer have midi out? This way you can send midi clock out?
It does, but it seems a little weird. You have to use your FX channel selector knob to choose the channel you want to send bpm information from. I'm currently setting up the x1850 to send midi clock to Ableton on the laptop, and out of the laptop to 3 hardware synths, (TR8S, Roland System One and Yamaha MODX6). Like I said, still setting it up and ironing it out, so I can't speak to how well it works yet.
I can’t wait for a new mixer with more than 4 channels… 😎
Hoping also for a 6 channel ❤️
Denon you need to get a move on with serato dj for the prime 2. The xdj rx3 bladdy has it 🤦♂️
Wearing two watches... 😁
You guys really gotta work on the type of content you’re putting out. From a marketing standpoint of view, the content is minimal. The type of content isn’t all that exciting. These are just some pointers. This isn’t helping sell your brand. I like your products, but this channel isn’t inspiring much confidence. Something has to change.
