I used to drive a 96 Ram long bed with a 3.9. It had 250,000 miles and would not break. I delivered used auto parts all over south Georgia. I had 2 problems. The a/c air from the vents started switching to defrost, when I go up a long hill. A vacuum check valve on the intake fixed the that. The second problem was a transmission line broke while I was doing 80 mph.
Man I admire your videos so much, I have a 2000 Dakota 5 speed 3.9L and everything I’ve seen on your channel is super helpful. I was considering on buying the same rockers actually. I wanted to know how you set up the exhaust system to the turbo and if you bought a different cpu for the tune. Seriously amazing job👍🏼
I’m running a megasquirt 2 ecu to control my fuel and ignition, the stock ecu is no good for turbo setups even when tuned. The exhaust is home made using the stock manifolds but I’m not very happy with the setup
You didn't show what break in oil additive you used , I just purchased this same set for my 99 Dakota , could you please reply with which additive you used to soak your roller rockers thanks
So I got my license back last month and went to hop in the dak. My brakelines rusted out. Yours is of similar year so I was hoping you could do a replacement on yours to show me how to do it on a budget. No lift or anything. Truck weighs 2 tons and has no brakes except the parking gear, but I cant afford 3000 dollars in shop work

I did the 1.7 roller rocker upgrade to my 2001 3.9l last week. That along with a canned superchips tune really makes a difference. Now it runs like it should have from the factory all along lol. Edit: It's almost a shame to cover up the new rollers, they look pretty cool.
@@treewino u think i willl notice some power diffrence with some jba headers and the rocker upgrade?i want to put it on my dodge ram 2001 it feels soo sloww
@@1mad_bug I definitely noticed a difference after the roller rockers and superchips tune. Before that I had also installed a V8 throttle body, 180* thermostat, hotter coil and better wires. The DNA shorty headers were the last thing I did after the roller rockers. It's never gonna run like a V8 but it's definitely better than it was. Superchips says to use 91 octane or better with the performance tune but I can run 87 with no detonation. Edit: as for sound, I removed the cat for a while and that changed the sound a little but I ended up putting it back on.
Dang bub you had the same idea that I did. I have a 2001 dodge with the 3.9 magnum 5 speed. I am looking to put in a cam, lifters, intake, tb, on mine but I am having alot of trouble finding what is just bolt on and go. Would anybody be willing to help steer me in the right direction. I have also been told that I can go pull the lifters,tb from a v-8 and everything should work. Is that true?
V8 throttle bodies are a cheap bolt on upgrade, just make sure it’s from the same year so your linkage all fits. That combines with some exhaust mods and these rocker arms are probably the best option. There are other mods out there like underdrive pulleys and you might be able to get a flash tuner for it as well
They probably can make custom ones or regrind one for me but it would cost about the same as these rockers. The advantage I have with these is that if I ever swap a v8 in the future I can use these arms and just have to order 4 more of them

Always nice when you can bolt stuff on and go! Looking forward to seeing the retune results! 👍
Bolt ons ftw
That truck couldn't have found a better home. Nice video, dude. :)
Waiting for the results !! . Great build
Would those lifters work with a street cam swap found a few comp cams for the 3.9
I asked them and they said they dont make cams for the v6
@@1mad_bug summit does

It was Lucas oil that I used, just their zinc break in additive. Oreilly’s had it on the shelf when I bought it

All I have is the stock jack and I would only use that for a tire swap. I would not get under it with that jack
I actually did a video about 2 years ago replacing all of the brake lines on this truck

What are your reccomendations for making a 3.9 have more power mine is weak as possible and can barely get into traffic 😂
Fuel pump. Mine went out as soon as I got the 95 dak. That and a full tune up. Plugs, wires, rotor, and take the carb off and clean it. (really easy)
Well the pump is the hard part. Usually about 400 dollars for parts and labor
Put a 5.2l t-body on it. Thatll wake it up.
I have a question can i put these with everything else stock

Got a 98 Dakota 3.9 thinking of upgrading the rockers, what tune would I need to get?
Most people just run these on the stock tune so I’m not sure what would work best with these
Hey awesome video. I can’t seem to find those rockers for my 1997 dodge Dakota 3.9 sport.
I got these from summit racing, it’s been a couple of years but they should still have a kit for the 3.9 magnum
can you use these on a LA 3.9l i have a 87 Dakota

Do this work for the LA 3.9?
Only if it's the later hydraulic tappet throttle body injection engine
Nice bro
What ecu are you running?
Megasquirt 2
You dont have to double tap a tourq wrench
Ok
Actually you should. It's considered good practice. Its make sure you reached the proper torque.
