How good was Pavel Nedved actually? #GOAT
New episode of a documentary series where I plan to present all the greatest players of all time and then give them a score so a ranking of the best players can be created. In this episode we take on Pavel Nedved who played for Juventus and Lazio for most of his career, not only one of the greatest playmakers of all time but one of the greatest players of all time. See how Pavel Nedved ranks and just how good he actually was.
Pavel Nedved was such an under appreciated player. He was so fantastic that he could play anywhere in midfield, good tackler, decent heading, pace and a fantastic finisher.
He was in my late 90s/early 2000s dream team and he would be worth at least 150 million in today's money.
Juventus bought Nedved from Lazio for 45 million Euros in 2001 and that is the equivalent of 4.5 million grams of gold. Today the price of 1 gram of gold is 50 euros, so Nedved's price today is 225 million euros.
Under appreciated? He won the ballon d'or 🤣
@@nathanielliddy638 He totally deserved it. He carried Juve hard in that 2003 UCL campaign. And just hypothetically: if he won 2 Euros and an UCL, most people would view him as the GOAT CM, he was that good. But just like Baggio or Ballack he was extremly unlucky in the big moments.
@@ursula3438 I totally agree. I was just saying that I don't think he is under appreciated
@@nathanielliddy638 If he had won the champions league people will say hes better than modric
Selling Zidane was Juventus’ best ever decision. Out of that trade we got the best goalkeeper ever Buffon, Pavel Nedved and Lillian Thuram.
@TheGiorgi7 Sometimes loyality is the biggest thing you can ever get.
@TheGiorgi7 what did Zidane give to Juve? CL? or what ? Nedved knocked Zidane's Madrid out of CL. Buffon stayed with Juve in the darkest of times. idiot.
@TheGiorgi7 .
@TheGiorgi7 .....brother .....football has no race

Buffon is cool
But loyalty is nothing to a foreign national playing in a foreign team
One of the most underrated Ballon d'or winners ever
You did justice to him by making this video. Keep up the good work
Nedved was my favourite player growing up. Playing at school in the playground, everyone wanted to be your Alan Shearers, your Andy Coles, your Paul Scholes and so on. I always wanted to be like Nedved. He was and still is one of if not my biggest footballing icon. Only Raul came close to the impact he had on me growing up as a young child learning my love of the game
Same, I had the Juve jersey (+ Del Pierro’s).
@@Tukkerrandy I had his Lazio, Juve and national team jersey. I also let my hair grew like his. And i taught myself using the left foot because of him.
its funny that Raul is my favorite player and Nedved is my 2nd best XD i still ahve his NO 11 shirt for over 10 years
Vieri (Nedved's teammate at Lazio) was my idol, then Del Piero. When Nedved retired I realized just how much I had not given him due recognition in his playing days.
Whats the connection.. me too... nedved, raul nd batistuta
There's a reason Matthäus, Nedved and Modric are the only CMs to win the Ballon D'Or in the last 30 years. When I think of a complete midfielder, I think of those 3.
Kaka
@@ErzaTsuruya-hn4vm Kaka was a great player. I was a fan of him, but he played more as an attacking midfielder and even more often as a shadow striker.
@@solorun79 Kaka is the last great 9,5. Nobody's been able to step in his boots since he retired. Maybe Muller but even that is a bit of a stretch, as he's more of a 10
Pavel Nedved is one my favourite players of all time. I loved his speed and long distance shots. One of the best players ever. I'm so glad You did a video about him.
There's a reason Matthäus, Nedved and Modric are the only CMs to win the Ballon D'Or in the last 30 years. When I think of a complete midfielder, I think of those 3.
Neved for me is the guy who's globally underrated on average right now, when talking about players of the past. Whereas at the time of his playing days he was mentioned up there with any 90s world class player.
Guess this is what happens when you keep yourself to yourself.
I remember him being a goal machine. Mainly the long shots and free kicks. Very old faint memories though. The guy was like KDB except faster.. and better.. at like everything.
Small curiosity: in Juventus games you would see the banner “Furia Ceca” which as the video thumbnail mentions literally means “Czech Fury”. However this nickname comes from the Italian translation of the movie “Blind Fury” with Rutger Haur which is “Furia Cieca”. Cieco = Blind...Ceco = Czech :)
On my study table in my room from when I was in school, i have Pavel Nedved name carved out. I cried when he retired. The czech rocket. We will never forget. Thank you Pavel, it was a pleasure.
I would just throw the icon factor and trophy cabinet out of the equation. It makes some of the best players ever end up with lower score than players that were not as good but luckier. Nedved had almost perfect score in almost all attributes playwise, but it wasn't his fault that his clubs didn't have as much success. These two scores places him next to Rooney and Beckham even tough he was undeniably better player than even some of the players ranked way above him. As a player he was without weakness, mentally he was the best leader you could imagine, his work rate was out of this world. It's not really fair he would be ranked lower than players way worse who just were more famous than him just because he was humble and without controversy, and whose teams had better luck. In his prime he was as good as Zidane, he won Ballon D'or in a competition of prime Kaká, Zidane, Figo, Pirlo, Maldini, Henry etc., and he was consistent all through his career, for most of his career he was one of the best in the world. He should be way higher in the rankings.
I appreciate this is late on but it’s relative to me after just watching… if you threw those factors out what would you be left with? How would it differentiate between the players? They would most end up with equal scores. It clear that they are both relevant. After all put Messi and Ronaldo up against each other and they would both score top marks in all. But trophies would prove Ronaldo is the GOAT. Ballon d’ors are all very well and great but Ronaldo trumps trophies and achievements / records held. Not by much but still. Also playing for more clubs and the achievements with those. Again not by much but Ronaldo still takes it. Yes irrelevant when you talk personal favourites as we all have one over the other despite being blessed with a generation with both.
So it should stay
And just to add a niggling point… you might rate Nedved higher than beckham but that’s you and others who may support him. It’s still a personal preference because beckham was neither lucky or reliant on celebrity. What he may take incon factor he losses in overall trophies. But still amazing and still relevant. Having those two factors give something more tangible that can be reflected on that doesn’t relay on personal opinion of the author. It takes actual achievements into account and the opinion of the mass market regardless celeb status or influence. They are both relevant. I had the same thoughts as you don’t get me wrong as personally I rate Nedved extremely high for example as well as Figo. Figo was one of the greatest but my man is right. Outside of português and there is not a lot of recalling his influence as say there is Zidane, Beckham, Raul at Madrid. Or Ronaldo Phenom at Barca. So I get it.
@@publicrelations9612 I simply have to disagree. Beckham or Rooney were never considered the very top world players. Everyone who lived and watched footbal back then, knows that it was Schevchenko, Figo, Nedved, Zidane, Maldini etc. that were considered the world's top players. Players like Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard were never in that category, even though Beckham was still better than the other two. So I must disagree. Number of club trophies or fame (icon factor) can never determine how great the player was. That would make the third greatest player ever out of Neymar, greatest ever fighter out of McGregor and greatest amateur boxer ever out of Jake Paul. Number of trophies would make Carvajal and Seedorf better players than Maradona, Totti, Zidane, Ronaldo9 etc. It's not personal opinion that Nedved was bettera and it's not about trophies or fame. Those who watched footbal back then know how was which player viewed back then and Nedved was always taken as one of the world's best, while Beckham was great player that was overrated back then and now is underrated, but he was never considered to be world's top. His longevity was good though.
Yes most of them might end up with similar score. All the more reason why having these two categories is nonsense. Just because most of them would have similar score, you would add two completely irrelevant categories that just mess up everything? One single point can make huge difference and that's why these two categories are irrelevant. Having one great player without trophies getting overcome by a worse player with either trophies or fame, that's simply injustice. It makes no sense. We rate the players for how great players they were, not how famous they are now or in how good clubs they played for. If anything, they could be judged for individual trophies, but not club trophies.
@@damasek219 yes but you are saying it should be disregarded. I’m saying it shouldn’t. I’m not saying it’s the only thing I just think they should be included as are relevant along with the other factors. And of course it’s personal opinion. For one we can compare many players like for like as playing styles, roles and exact positions are absolute factors. So is Zidane a better midfielder than Figo? Yes and no based on those factors mentioned. That’s the reality of it. They had different games and different roles in midfield. In fact worked well together. But this is rating the GOAT factor and isn’t pitting them against each other in competition. That element is personal opinion. The same as you believing Nedved is the better player between Rooney (a striker) and Beckham. It’s absolutely personal opinion. Doesn’t make you wrong but we may just disagree. People in general don’t remember Figo in the same way they remember Zidane that’s just the way it is. Does it mean Zidane was a better player? No as stated different positions and roles in reality but people also have an instant option on that so it is subjective. The reason why they have an instant opinion comes down to icon factor. So it has some relevance. Also when I say people I don’t mean everyone but in general. I just can’t understand how you can say trophies don’t play a factor either. It’s not all or nothing. But it is a difference that has some relevance that’s all.
Im Czech so i really appreciate this video was made. Not many people know how good he actually was...they just know that he won the ballon dor instead of Henry

I am not a football fanatic but Nedved i do remember the rumours were that he had a third knee bone because he was so fast i think he should be higher up because he was crucial to juve and chech republik
Pace 10/10, Stamina 11/10, Long Shot 10/10, Tackling 10/10, Dribbling 9/10, Passing 8/10, perhaps the most complete midfielder in football history.
He wasn't that fast, but he had good pace, I'd say 8/10 or even a solid 7. He had good acceleration... But the best thing about him was his endless stamina and he could run forever, do as much sprints as he wanted too and roam wherever he wanted.
A very efficient dribbler, a very efficient passer (I'd definitely rate his passing higher than pace), efficient technique...
He was one of the best players in the world imo since 2002 to 2006. Basically consisntently put out 8/10 performances, always performed. Scored many crucial goals, always pushed his team, always created something... Always worked defensively to win the ball when his team didn't have it. An incredible player. You simply don't have that nowadays, although the recent managers would love him because of his defensive work rate and pressing.
His dribbling was 10/10 and his pace was 7/10
@@zombievikinggaming4258 R9 was a 10/10 dribbler, Maradona, Messi, Ronaldinho, Robben too... Nedved was a 8/10 I'd say.
Don’t forget his stamina
He was called 3lungs and 2 heart nedved

I swear the only player I have ever seen until this day who could play 2 hours straight without gassing out
Rocky Marciano type of stamina
Running from winger position. To support defense get the ball run back to winger position and give a pass
@siberianTiger639
That’s very true
But don’t forget he possibly the best long distance scorer in football history
Both foot left and right felt like a cannon of legs was unbelievable
People only remember him mistakenly as the player who “robbed “ henry
He’s not even on the conversation of one the greatest midfielder and the most complete midfielder to ever play the game
That 2006 Czech team was so good: Cech, Jankulovski, Nedved, Rosicky, Poborsky, Baros, Koller.. too bad they didnt made far on the World Cup
that team .. and the comback against the team from netherland .. which was the clear favorite to win the `04 EU championship.. where the czech turned the 0:2 into a 3:2 was one of the best games ive ever watched! and fun fact .. in that era between 2004-06 the czech team was ranked no.1 which is impressive for such a small country where football isnt even the no.1 sports! its icehokey if im right!

Litmanen he was good for two seasons. michael laudrup was worth making a film about. I'm just saying 5-0 5-0
Incredible player. I followed Serie A closely throughout his career and his consistency was insane - he had everything, pace, explosive power, tenacity, great shooting skills and amazing technique. I feel the only reason he is not spoken about even more highly is that he is from Czech Republic rather than one of the established footballing superpower nations. The year he won the Ballon Dor a lot of people in my own country say that Thierry Henry was robbed. Henry was indeed superb but that is ignorance or bias in my opinion. Ill always be glad he won that to get the recognition he deserved!
As a Milan fan, all i want to say is that Nedved was a menace. So hard to mark and ridiculously effective. It's like he rarely makes bad decisions.
Hey man, I don't comment often on youtube, bit of a lurker you could say.
But I really appreciate all the videos you make! I love the enthusiasm, but also the quality and amount of information. I can really tell you put a lot of work in them, I just wanted to thank you for all that. And so you know ,though people might not always leave comments, your work is massively appreciated and enjoyed.
They don't make them like that anymore. Phenomenal player.
since i was kid, Zidane and Nedved were my favourite players, yet it took me a few years to know about this relationship of substitution in juve. Funny enough, i started getting into football the 1st year that zidane was in real, but that juve squad was the responsible for me liking the sport.
Him destroying Real Madrid in the CL remains one of my earliest memories of CL football
I relive that moment from time to time. I remember my school friends all rooting for Real, most of them had Real's shirts (Raul, Guti, Casillas). I was the only one with a Nedved shirt. That night I was ecstatic. Finally, I could go to another P.E. with more pride than ever.
Pavel is easily one of the best Juve players of all time
Platini?
@@theodorekell he said one of the best
Luciano Moggi wasn't gonna sell Zidane to Real until he had Nedved, Buffon, and Thuram on lock, he's said that many times. So what you called desperation, I'd call a moment of brilliance. He knew what he was doing, and what he was getting for Zidane.
Definitely on Juventus/Czech republic’s all time best XI 🙌
Personally he’s on the same class players born 1972 the likes of Figo,Zidande,Rui Costa & Rivaldo
Oh man he's definitely better than figo and costa, but he isn't better than zidane and this isn't his fault. Zidane and ronaldo are something else in the world of football.
@@iman7j887 Bro Nedved has better goal per game average in champion league than Zidan that played attacking midfielder, meanwhile nedved was plane midfielder. I genuinely think Nedved was far more complex player with better attributes than Zidane, Only aspect of game where is Zidane better is dribbling. Otherwise Nedved comes on top in all the other aspects, especially kicking power speed and durability.
Lazio fans are incredible
They really value loyal and legendary players
Nedved and Klose are moving stories and farewells to the game
The laziali is a great source of information on Lazio players
Oh, Pavel Nedved. I remember when I was a young kid, watching Serie A games on a paid channel on Portuguese cable tv back then, and asking my dad who was the blond guy who made the passes. He was one of the last romantics of football, never lost his cool, always kept his composure, and his vision for a good pass was unbelievable.
I really love these vids, to see how our legends got to where they were
6:40 the Inzaghi brother who signed for Lazio was Simone, not Pippo.
5:28 that’s gazza m8 Paul Gascoigne
Yep
The rating is not ok, atleast in my opinion. He was winning matches just by himself. Every important match, players like Totti, Del Pierro, Beckham, Pirlo or Zidane, were almost all the time in his shadow. Maybe im deilusional because Im Czech, but i needed to said that. Great video, good job.
You are right, Nedved gets a bad rep because he comes from a country which, sadly, is not seen as "glamorous". Many footballers from central Europe suffer from this image (very wrongly so for me), when the likes of Nedved, Shevchenko or Modric win the Ballon d'Or they suffer so much criticism. In terms of media and PR there is the perception that it's "better" if a player like Henry wins, even though Nedved and Sheva deserved just as much.
Yeah… Players from Slavic countries are so underrated.
Please make a video about Rafa Márquez, as Mexicans we feel he’s highly underrated at least from a European point of view, perhaps he left Europe a bit too early since he choose to play in the MLS at a time in which he had offers to play for Juventus and other European clubs.
Regardless he is highly rated by the likes of Puyol, Yaya Touré, Ronaldinho, Henry and Guardiola, so that tells you something about his quality.
He won trophies with Monaco & Barcelona, he was captain of the national team in 5 world cups, he’s the only player in the history of football that has achieved the latter, and one of only 4 players to have played in 5 world cups.
In fifa He was also a beast
That's Gascoigne not Jugovic, and its Simone Inzaghi (the current Lazio coach) that joined Lazio, not Fillipo Inzaghi... lol
and to be honest, Zidane at Juventus wasn't really the best of Zidane yet at that time
Please do a video on just how good was Socrates. His footballing journey was such a unique one !
Nedved didn't truly replace Zidane, Juventus played differently with him (because the club had an intelligent coach Marcello Lippi, who was then replaced by stubborn Capello who put Nedved back on the wing and failed to get the best of him). Nedved initially struggled with Juve but then got handed a new "hybrid" role which utilised his qualities to perfection: he could run, tackle, shoot, pass... around 2002-03 it became clear that he'd been wasted playing wide for Lazio all those years (and even then proving to be one of their best players). Highly rated by all his managers and many iconic teammates like Veron at Lazio and Smicer/Poborsky for his country. The midfield of Tacchinardi-Davids-Camoranesi-Nedved was the last one Juventus had which I saw really dominate games, putting the fear into opponents with their frenetic activity and fearlessness.
It's just a shame that Nedved chose to ruin his Juventus legacy with his shadow role "working" with Agnelli.
You're awesome telling stories bro! Keep going!!
I’m a juve fan and When nedved was in lazio and played against us. I always worried when he had the ball because it always led to dangerous chances. Especially in 2001 where we lost 4-1 and he scored 2 goals. And at that moment that’s when i started wishing he would someday sign for juve. And In that summer he did. Even tho we had to lose zidane but it was a worthy of trade off.
1 of My favourite player of all time, when i was a young kid i always felt bad why he was so weak in the playstation 1 football games lol.
My vote is 10/10 he was a joy to watch .. I think he servers a higher place around 78/79
This guy would score the craziest goals. And consistently. Much better than the tap in merchants of today.
People who say that he didn’t deserve the Ballon d’or must be the most deluded fans on the planet
Even he said himself that he thought Henry was deserving of it when he won it. The people who believe that Nedved robbed Henry aren’t deluded, not in the slightest
@@excellenceincarnate8748 He said that because he's respectful. That doesn't mean he didn't deserve it. Only deluded Thierry Henry fans think so.
@@damasek219 look, i personally don’t think that Nedved stole the ballon d’or from Henry, and im saying that as an Arsenal fan. However, most people who say that Henry deserved it aren’t entirely delusional, as in all honesty, Henry had one of his best statistical years of his long and illustrious career, and the premier league was a madness, with the manchester utd v arsenal rivalry in full swing, with both teams having some of the best players some people have ever seen.
@@excellenceincarnate8748 Ok , I take it back. Saying they're deluded is not correct. But they are wrong however. Henry had a great year but he was a striker in a league where the most goals are scored. Nedved was a midfielder in the most defensive and the best league in the world at that time and look at his stats, how many goals he scored. More than Figo or Zidane. He won the trophy with almost 62 points in advance while Henry placed 2nd just by five points before Maldini so it could easily have been Maldini in the second place. Btw, I fell in love with Henry in 2004 but still Nedved was more of a high quality player than Henry for me. Nedved was the top level player for all of his career ever since he started till he quit while Henry somehow rose to the peak, shined brightly for some three four years and then slowly faded so I would say Nedved is greater footballer than Henry, even though I loved Henry at the time and I liked his play more than Nedved's. But who wouldn't, Henry was the highlight player but as I grew up, I realized that there are many important aspects of the game, and in those Nedved was superior.
NEDVED was so good bro mans Workrate was Top tier
