In the old days we used to stop at bangor in maine to refuel on inbound flights, adding 40 minutes to the journey, the upside was it was only 39 pounds fly drives in those days!!!

Great video. The reason for the stop to refuel is that the runway in Bristol is relatively short. In poor weather the aircraft needs extra fuel which would mean it’s too heavy to be fully fuelled and take off from the short runway. Hence the pit stop 👍

Planes that are fully fuel laden are EXTREMELY heavy - Bristol has a short runway so the plane cannot be too heavy for take off - so therefore it needs to take on the extra fuel in Ireland. This is because when you go to North America, you are flying AGAINST the prevailing winds, so you basically need a full load of jet fuel.
Interesting to know, I’ve been on the same route but haven’t had to refuel, was this only because of the weather?
I’m a little nervous flying so the thought of 2 take offs and landings feels me with dread!
What sort of drinks are included throughout the flight in economy? Trying to work out what we need bring 😊
