Nice video. You would have walked past my boat moored opposite the West gate. Such a lovely spot and if you like Sandy beaches then take a trip to West Witterings beach and East Head, sand, sand and more sand…. Andy UK
I sail my dinghy here regularly, If you are really lucky on the south/south West side of Thorney /island you may see the seals, especially low water when they bask on the mud flats, just remember to keep your distance, it is their home.
Brilliant video, it is a beautiful island, went half way round the same way as you did but then turned back, it was getting late and the sun was setting, still want to go back and start the walk on the other side first, wouldn't be able to walk the 7 miles but will try half way again. Thank you so much for sharing the video, will look at your others too.
Well done Vikki, I think you’re onto to something as it’s really advantageous to be able to assess a destination before setting out, possibly from a long way off. This is an excellent and worthwhile topic for a TH-camr and we’ve subscribed in the hope that we’ll discover further locations to walk and watch the bird life 👍 Geoff & Sarah
Thank you. Thorny Island used to be an RAF airfield back in the day. People who were stationed there said it was their favourite service location. So it had been on my list for a visit since the 80s. I have driven past a couple of times but with your guide it has moved to top spot for a day out. My great aunt would visit Southsea which I finally did for the first time in May 2021. Loved it!
Finally completed my visit yesterday unfortunately the east gate is closed so I went via the west gate to the sandy white beach and back. Will wait for the repairs to be completed and complete the circular walk soon. You will walk on gravel, pebbles and mud tracks as you go around. Most is easy walking. The track is not well defined in one or two areas imho. I chose a Saturday saw about 20 other walkers in 4 hours.
Thanks for sharing your lovely day , my wife and I shall probably only reach the white sands then I'll let her pump up the sup board, only joking though she is fitter / younger than me . old new sub here will recommend you . Great weather on way so parking allowing nice day soon .
This was one of my fav postings years ago

Just finished the walk following watching this a couple of days ago. It’s a great loop walk with loads of interesting wildlife to spot and see
Oh fab! Glad you had a good time doing it!

I'm new to Portsmouth and have been eyeing up Thorney island, def one for 2021!
Great video! I've been there and it's a really picturesque area. Any tips for similar secret gem in Hampshire or nearby? :)
