I now wear this accessory all the time. Simple, yet so essential.

  • Our body does not like the cold. Whenever it gets cold, the skin develops "goosebumps," and the muscles tense up to keep warm. The back is especially vulnerable to hypothermia, and who among us hasn't experienced back pain? Ahead of us are days without heating and dropping temperatures.
Back in my youth, a professor who oversaw our ward in the hospital said that if something aches or hurts - whether it's a surgical scar or the back - one should wrap up in a wool scarf. I've been doing this ever since, and it's true; it really helps, the pain subsides, and warmth returns.
You can buy special warming wool belts for the back that retain heat well. However, a belt sewn by hand is just as good.
If you have wool, you can use it as filling. If not, synthetic padding will do - it's lightweight, airy, prevents bacteria and pests, retains warmth, and is hypoallergenic.
For the material, fleece, knit fabric, or any sweater will work. I used a hoodie from a "do what you want" bag for my belt. It's good when the fabric stretches, so the finished product fits snugly against the body.
    Here's how to sew it:
I measured my waist circumference, ensuring the belt length equals this measurement plus 6 cm for the fastening.
I cut out a rectangle, 25 cm wide, which will go across the back, and two cone-shaped pieces for the front.
I stitched these parts together. You need to create two such pieces.
Where the back is, I placed two layers of synthetic padding.
I layered all the pieces and sewed around the edge, leaving an opening for turning it inside out.
I turned the belt inside out. On the back, I marked parallel lines for stitching.
    I quilted the belt.
For the fastening, I used Velcro. However, you can also make loops and sew on buttons.
If you don't have enough fabric for those fastenings, you can sew strips of fabric or ribbon at the front that can be tied or attach a snap fastener.
The belt warms the back immediately, doesn’t constrict, and it’s comfortable, allowing you to relax quickly.
