Thanks for sharing this invaluable info especially about the captive screws. A later model lid has a whole push bar so you need to back off the screws with a T20 then push forward to disengage the latch (both sides)
Tnx HeapLayOn, your video saved me! I was about to use excessive force to get the panel off. I removed the screws entirely and i couldnt figure out why it didnt come off. But as you show, the trick is to unscrew the screws halfway and then push them in. As for getting the white plugs off: I used a flatheaded screw with double sided tape (carpet tape) on the head. Press it on firmly and give it a good yank.
At around 0:50 it says there is no need to remove the screws. Make that: if you remove the screws the top will not come off! They control latches which close when the screws are removed. Took me half an hour and this video to figure it out.

Oh my. Lifesaver. Needed this to get into the top of a modern miele professional.
thanks for this I was about to resort to brute force and long screwdriver theory being better a working dryer with no top than not working at all....
🤣
I used blobs of hot glue. I glued them on and when they had cooled and hardened, pulled on those.
Thank you, kind stranger
