    I just want to say I have learned so much from watching your videos. But there is one thing I hope you adapt into your examples.
    I think that most people that use excel at work are working with huge data sets, possibly with years of data. If the data is exported it is usually in a Table format with named headers. Your easy to follow and very well explained lessons usually has a very small data set and to select a small data set it is efficient to use the keyboard short cuts from the top of a list just under the columns header name and cntl + shift + down arrow to the bottom of the data list and this especially works on a large data list. But I have found it even more effective to just type the columns reference such as (=SUM(A:A) even with a header it will give the correct answer. This even works well in the lookup functions. Less typing and quicker formula entries.

    • @excelisfun
      @excelisfun  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Luke Williams , A couple things: I have many videos that demonstrate large data sets, for example the Business Analytic series and others. Also, I intentionally do not use A:A and other complete column or row references; although most times it is not a problem, in some cases it can cause slow calculation because so many cells are involved and in other cases it can cause incorrect answers when data is added below the data set and for array formulas you flat out are not allowed to use full column references. I am aware that it is a standard practice in the working world to use whole column references like A:A, but I fundamentally disagree with it. Further, Since keyboards to highlight the range and jump back to the Active Cell are relatively quick, selecting the correct range is just a small bit slower than clicking the Excel column header. I hope that articulates my position well.

I've already started applying some of what I've learnt at work and it is helping me tremendously. Thank you very much for posting these videos for free, this is a public service! Hi Michael. I notice you encourage Alt+= for AutoSum and you're right. As a trainer myself I show it to dozens of participants per month. Can I add a small improvement to that shortcut? While below a column of numbers instead of Alt+= then Enter I show to press Alt then hit = twice. So its Alt+== which I learned that from double clicking the AutoSum button in the toolbar (Ribbon). So I wondered if hitting = twice would be like double-clicking. Et voilà. My little 5cents worth.
    Cheers - Down Under

    to paste data from one cell to another using ONLY keystrokes...
    For instance, I want to paste the number
    35 in cell A7 to cell CB7, without using the mouse.
    I want the number 35 to appear in cell CB7
    without the screen moving to that part of the spreadsheet but instead the

    I'm watching the "Basics" course and starting the "Advanced" course now after finishing every video in "Basics" except video 25. My boss directed me to learn "the basics" of Excel that I would be ready to keep up in a class given for me and my coworkers. Now, my coworkers are asking me to teach them. I feel that "Excel Basics" did way more than teach me just the basics. I could probably handle a lot of things that even experienced office drones might think twice about. I'm going to continue to keep watching. Out of all the possible faults you could have in life, learning Excel to an absurd degree is not one of them!

Despite being on disability I love to learn more with Excel since I got a newer computer and using MS Office 2016. Will purchase it through my online college I believe for $70.00 or so and it will be worth every dime. I love your video as it goes through the nitty gritty parts of Excel many, like myself, might not know but will.
