Rob came alive for this topic. Usually he's texting & chilling on his phone which for a radio show is cool but still a noticeable difference. Great idea with the closer suggestion
They mentioned John Smoltz. He was the only pitcher on those Braves teams that won 14 straight division titles that didn't choke every year in the postseason.
The greatness of Ohtani is not purely the fact that he can hit and pitch, lots of guys can do it, and it's not even the fact that he's excellent at both, no, the reason Ohtani is great is because of his sustainability in being extraordinary in both. To pitch like he did and hit like he did during his MVP season over the course of 162 games is without precedent
Yeah well he is still in his 20s. Once he gets into his 30s, it will be time to choose one or the other. He will eventually be just a hitter. Most likely around 32 or 33 years old.
There is a legitimate argument that Ohtani shouldn’t pitch because he already has gotten hurt multiple times, but then again, Ohtani pitching and hitting at the same time is what makes him and baseball exciting, would be a shame if Ohtani eventually decided to give up one discipline.
I was thinking like Rob maybe just make him a relief pitcher in the regular season to lower the work load but still have him available for a good amount of games and then for the playoffs you can make him a starter or just up his relief innings
@@KeepItReal213 I'm not saying he can't pitch. I'm saying that a middle reliever, even a really good one, is a few million a year at most. A right fielder is one of you highest paid players. It's a position thing.
Ohtani only missed one game last year before the September injury so he hits basically every game and last year he hit even better on the days he pitched
For people who were out on baseball years ago, it's a good time to come back, games are like 30 min faster on average from the rule changes. Less shifting so more hitting/offense. Bases are a little bigger and pitchers cant throw over as much so were seeing a big uptick in steals.
The Odd Couple need their own TH-cam channel. I always want to keep up with their videos but I don’t want to subscribe to this channel that put out so many trash videos like Ben Maller or Doug Goitlleb
I guess you never watched Angels games 😅 He hits as a DH when he throws. Ohtani closed the game at WBC final last year, first time in 6 years. I’m sure he can be a closer too.

These guys are so ignorant they don't even know how Ohtani has been playing in the last three years. He doesn't skip games before or after pitching!! He bats in the same game he pitches, as DH, and he hits in almost all games, period!!!!! If you're going to talk about a subject, at least know some basic facts. These guys know nothing about Ohtani's activity in seasons where he does both hitting and pitching. Get a clue!

Baseball isn’t as big in American society as it was years ago
That's because they got the NBA in 2002. They didn't cover the NBA prior to that because NBC had it (and CBS prior).
Thats because ESPN sold their souls to the NFL and decided to become the NFL bitch

No. He can and should do both.
He got that big contract because he can do both

yeah, but the contract is 10 years so the closer idea is smart so he can extend his pitching years while maximizing impact to win titles.

Apology to shohei first.

I think the median for this ohtani situation is him transitioning to a reliever he can come in for like 2-3 innings and still hit every game
