I'm making a large model of this cliff house. It's looks great. Hopefully you might be able to see it at the California State Fair.

What a lovely heartfelt tribute to the glorious structure so soon gone after appearing.
That Gilded Age architecture lives-on in imagery tho no longer within living memory, and also as 3-DIMENSIONALLY by the models that its dedicated lovers have created plus its variety of StereoViews.
(Between the two, it's almost like "being there.")
Your Cliffhouse Project site Gary is simply splendid, and worthy fully of its subject. Many, many thanks for it!

Sutro ideas were beautiful, ornate, and built for the Public in mind. I saw some of the structures in my younger years. San Francisco needs to maintain their "Jewelry Box Gems" !

R.I.P Adolph Sutro and the 'Gilded Age'. A time that was innocent and unlike the world we all live in Today. Gone are the masterpieces of architecture' and the people who dared to dream big and beautiful. Sutro Baths, Sutro heights and Sutro's Cliff house.

I'm surprised nobody has done a movie set in this period, specifically at Sutro's grand Cliff House. Such a dramatic setting. And as someone who's studied this, full of actual drama as well, even though it only existed for a mere 10 years.

@@GaryStark I agree 100% and, couldn't ask for a better character compared to Howard Hughes or someone like that.. the second Cliff house was truly a magnificent example of Victorian houses (large scale) but right up the hill in Sutro heights was just as beautiful but much much smaller scale. I read once in a book, All built, designed and furnished, the 2nd Cliff house built by Adolph Sutro cost a mere $75,000. Crazy you couldn't build 1/8th of it today for that sum. Hollywood Directors writers need a wake up call and needs to do a movie about him and his journey from Prussia to S.F Mayor - Millionaire. a true self made gentleman, good citizen of early S.F history.

Wouldn't it be something if the Cliff House could be restored to it's former glory with that magnificent building? 🤔🥰

Great testament to the architects since it survived the 1906 earthquake!

@Dojocho Whoa! Pretty strong. Being an architect is serious stuff. I have no problem people using computers. I wouldn't want a building worked on today without one

Very nice compilation. Even the "modest" replacement (in all its incarnatioins) is pretty darn big. WNP member and big fan of your site. I know Dan & Mary aren't that techy, have they seen your vids?
