    Even though Ian may come from and express his views in a different way than the other panelists, he knows about fashion. He was able to follow along and add his own input. I definitely respect that and I feel he deserved to be a panelist. We need different view points in fashion so thank you @SHOWstudio.

    No sure why all the hate for Ian, or the overall discussion in general. Ian made some relevant and valid points, as well as driving the discussion to places that the panel wouldn’t have gone otherwise had he not been there. His point of view is relevant, even it wasn’t always delivered in an eloquently way. Didn’t see the issue of Ian on his phone either, there was a break in recording!. Get over it people. Enjoy the dialogue.

    Why are we criticizing a young artist? I expect younger artist to have the angst that Ian has, but as a minority it isn't seen as edgy or even punk, you guys claim he's being rude. Fashion is an art form, art is self expression. I think he's young and refreshing, fashion is so recycled now and I think we should break down walls to give it the fresh take it needs

    In reference to the comment about raf saying what he said to Virgil and off white. I think he's entitled to his opinion and off white isn't original at all, it's clearly visible that he references other brands and that okay for him. It's not innovative or new, that's what raf is saying.

    Fashion has always been political, from Chanel dressing women in suits, to Yohji and Rei showing Paris, to Vetements appropriating the hoodie present day (the political garment of black lives matter). The moment Ian opened his mouth this discussion went down hill. This could have been an intelligent discussion on how important this collection was for America's past and present, but it turned into a mid 20 year old claiming he was buying Raf Simons back when he was 9 years old, which in itself is unrealistic and also unrelated to the conversation they were trying to have.
    I was really looking forward to this panel, but again when Raf Simons is involved Show Studio bring on a person who is uneducated in reading codes and concepts of fashion collections today and only cares about the past work of Raf Simons (which is very very important and influential in mens fashion today) and completely disregards the importance of his work today because it lacks the obvious iconography of youth and revolt through imagery spattered all over the garments.
    Great designers constantly evolve through their collection and inspirations, thats the only reason why Raf Simons is still relevant today in fashion and art. Everyone needs to look at the full spectrum of Simons' work and ask why is he doing what he's doing today.

    yo b this is very inspirational not just because ian connor is there but see that you can come from anywhere and not have this and that to make it in life and its a blessing to see a African american youth, strive and go through bullshit and to give his opinions about fashion with high class Europeans.

  • @TheGamerFreak33
    @TheGamerFreak33 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Everyone is consistently commenting on Ian's phone usage during the intellectual delegation yet there is not one comment made similarly to anyone else, at times all of them glance away and pull out of the conversation to listen and think which is simply what Connor is doing. Many comments have stated on his intellectual likeness and his discussion during the conversation which unfortunately holds him to a lower standard than he actually is on. Ian is an intellectual and everything he said here (which his 'unfavorable actions' might have taken away from) was correct to the highest form considering he sees fashion from a view many do not. There's much more going on in the conversation to simply bash him for his participation in the conversation which was low considering Connor's likeness is very reserved and not shy-- but rather careful which was shown throughout in multiple ways. Often at times his immaturity brings a fun side to a conversation that might have about audience of many who aren't as focused on fashion to relate. There are multiple personal attacks throughout the section coming for him based on allegations which never even brought him to getting charged or convicted of anything. ⚡

  • @fefepleats
    @fefepleats 7 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Question, if Ian hadn't had those allegations against him, would you talk as badly about him as some of you are doing now? The kid was invited so he obviously had some insight. Y'all hate him if y'all want but damn lmao.

    The Calvin collection was perfect. Better than I anticipated. I didn't like Raf's New York menswear collection as much as the last couple. But I love it, New York is excited. I was walking Times Square with a couple buddies of mine, one an artist one a model, and we were looking at the new Vanderperre campaign just blasted all over the place, with Warhol prints and Sterling Ruby paintings, and we were just like, "Fuck, this is amazing." I love seeing conceptual art and corporate cheese at war with one another in the commercial hellhole of the universe. It was terrific. And the clothes, I loved pretty much everything.

    Throwing this out there: the slogan thing has always been around. Maybe in high fashion and editorial, it's been out for a while but the high street brands have never stopped making slogan wear. These panels mention Zara a lot and if walk into a Zara in the last few years, new slogan tees keep coming out. So maybe slogan wear never went away on the street and has influenced the higher end brands? We always talk about high street copying designers but could it be the other way around? The fact is that most people can't afford expensive brands so most people are theoretically wearing high street out and about. So why can't designers be influenced by high street trends? I feel like the fashion industry moves faster than the street scenes.

    Watching these panels became one of my favorite things to do as a way to learn from very unique and educated voices in fashion.
    I'm sure that me and other viewers are always looking forward to hear all the opinions from great panelists after every show, but I think Ian's approach on Raf comes from the "fan" perspective and most of the times, that approach is filled with passion but it lacks objectivity and a clear point of view. We have people like Ian around us, he even represents what we think and how we feel sometimes about certain designers...but let's leave that to the streets and to our own every day life where everyone has an opinion, and keep Showstudio panels as a very serious and informed tool with people that put preferences on the side and actually focus on quality, good design and fashion as a strong source for cultural evolution.
    ...This was a little frustrating to watch (I still love you guys)

    And they are talking about Demna again. All right, the thing with Demna is he has totally tapped into hype branding culture, and has realized that he can infuse all sorts of underground references (industrial music, post-punk, abstract photography, fetish culture) and still use the hype of a brand to sell all this wierdness to a fashion obsessed customer who probably has no clue about any of that stuff. It's not that he's 'laughing' at people, he is just interested in the power of branding. A lot of people these days are more into brands than they are artists or musicians. So Demna can make a jacket influenced by Rammstein or Death in June or something, stamp it with the Vetements logo, and kids will wear it for the logo.

    Does anyone else think that Showstudio this year the sound is very very low ? Many sessions, you can barely hear them speak. Granted some are clothes whisperers who think they sound more important when they talks softly, but when even Lou the clearest speaker and host sounds like she's underwater, the sound engineer needs to wake up!!!!

    The guy on the phone is making me so uncomfortable, I can't even focus on the discussion. Why would you should up to something like this and then scroll on your phone, it's so disrespectful not just for the people watching because he knows that they're recording the discussion, but for your peers. It seems like you don't care about what the rest of the people around are saying and you have nothing better to do than to be on your phone. They're not taking selfies or playing candy crush while you are speaking. Is just unprofessional and he had some really interesting points but he loses relevance and credibility with those actions.

    On the one hand I do appreciate the perspective Ian brings to the discussion as someone who's clearly more easily in contact with fashion outside the sometimes elitist "fashion world", but on the other hand it's hard to ignore how disrespectful he was at points completely ignoring the debate, turning to his phone, how he reacted when someone doesn't agree with him (14:00) or literally turning his back to the next guest at his side when the chair broke, focusing once again on his phone and laughing.

    I hope this is last time Ian Connor is a guest panelist, who in their right mind would continuously looks at their phone while being filmed and asked to partake of a discussion? Lou has said many times that they have looked for a diverse panel. Why not ask Veronica Webb, Robin Givhan, June Ambrose or Simone Oliver? Not some "disinterested" personage.
