  • Machine Knitting: Hang Hem from Cast-on Comb
    Hang a hem directly from the comb, eliminating the steps of waste yarn and transferring to the bed using transfer tools. This video was made using a Brother 970 knitting machine and the technique will work with many other Brother knitting machines.

    Greetings from France 🥰. Age is no barrier to learn from the younger generation. Just an oldie of 71 years😁. In the 1980s these short cuts weren't heard about. Ive got a KG 894 since 1982 as well as the G Carriage for ribbing. So grateful you taught me something new and I love it. Gonna try turning over every stitch to begin with. Both hems give a beautiful professional finish. On a neck band it will look fantastic. I always turned the hem of the sweater BY HAND🙄. Thanks for sharing caring and making me SMILE 😊🥰. My 4 year gentle giant my water rescue Newfoundland and I wish you all the best for 2023. Two days more to go. 🥂🍾🎶🎶🎶

      That’s great! I didn’t realize it would work on a KX 395! I am going to try it on a KX 350 to see how it goes.

      Thanks! It’s difficult to position the camera so that I can knit and show what’s happening at the same time. At first I had the machine tilted up but couldn’t get a good camera angle, so I laid the machine flat. Then, the best way was to have the camera right in front of me, which makes it awkward to knit because I’m so far away and literally reaching around the tripod. But, I love doing it so it’s worth it!

    i was watching one of your brother cast on with combs video and wondered if you knew a way to cast on a riber with waste yarn so I could hang a ribbed hem

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what you mean. Usually a ribbed hem doesn't have to be folded, unless you mean a mock rib which doesn't use the ribber. What are you trying to make?

    Great video. I interpret that this won’t work on all machines. I have an LK-150 with tall plastic separators between the needles, so the comb won’t rest over the needles like it does on your machine. Do you agree? Or am I not being creative enough? Thanks!

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It won’t work with every needle on most machines but if you cast on using LK 150 on every other needle you can flip the comb over and hang every other stitch.

      Sorry to take so long getting back to you. I suggest downloading the manual and starting there. You most likely will have to change the sponge bar first as well.

  • @veguecolep

    Can you do this on LK-150 with the other comb? the one that's every other needle?

    I am new to machine knitting. I have a SK 700. What kind of yarn do I use?

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need a thin yarn. Sock weight yarn works very well. If you are in the US, get some Woolike Loops and Threads from Michael's and a yarn winder. This yarn works great for practice and it's inexpensive.

    Hello how long would it take to knit a medium sized sweater with this type of machine

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it depends a lot on the style of the sweater and the experience level of the person knitting it, but an intermediate level knitter could probably finish knitting a simple sweater in a few hours. Finishing the sweater which entails sewing the side seams, shoulders, and sleeves together would take some time also.

    So funny. The term "waste" yarn. These people with all their piles of money. Rofl. I'm over here tying short scraps of yarn together I picked up at a yard sale to make yarn buster beanie hats... It's really hard to "waste" anything when you've been poor. Even after you aren't so much anymore. Lol I even save old clothes that are hokey and make "yarn". Shoot, I grabbed the plastic from those round hay bales from the cows. Plastic makes me nuts. The stuff never goes away and we use it so much. Ugh.

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many people wind their waste yarn up and use it again. You could think of it as a tool that you need for machine knitting. Thanks for watching!
