As someone who has had an animal rescue organization over 50 years, I always recommend taking the one who has the least chance of being adopted. You rejected the black and white kitty saying she looked too "old and thin." Most likely she will be rejected by everyone else on the same basis also. Every adopter wants the most beautiful, healthy, friendly cat of all. Those cats will easily get adopted. I wish you could have been that special person who looked beyond those qualities and have taken the one with the least chance of getting out of there. It takes a special person to understand this. Otherwise, great video and made me wonder why all shelters aren't videotaping their animals regularly and putting them on TH-cam to give them a better chance??
I agree, the cat that loves you the most is the one that has endured life's hardship and appreciates being loved and accepted. You actually took the best looking cat, which was not the best choice. I'd rather see you rescue a cat that has more of a need for love. Did you actually rescue a cat? ....No, you took the easiest to adopt, and the other cats may now get destroyed.
I also worked at a shelter for 10 years (in Holland) and the older friendly cats got adopted realy well. It where the shy cats and the fierce cats that had less chance because people want a cat ‘that picks them’. Well if a cat is scared or shy it will not pick you but it will need a home. Also the cats with health issues are harder to place cos they are a lot of work and/or expensive. sometimes.
@Jamie Jump I took the shy older cat with one eye , nobody wanted him. Called him Captain Jack. Lost him last Christmas. He lived a long happy life with us and it was a privilege to be able to care for him , I miss him so much. That's his photo enjoying a cat nap on my bed. He was my third cat and never thought I would get another but saw a pair of big green eyes and rescued him , he's the same breed but a completely different personality and love him just as much as my other cats.
Thought that black and white cat had the job in the bag. She showed great effort, she was friendly, and just seemed like a good natured loving cat. I was rooting for her 😢
That sweet kitty, at the second to last shelter, she chose you...and you broke her little kitty heart because you didn’t take her. You need to go back there and take her too... She loved you guys and was so so sweet. She would be a good greeter for all the customers coming into the shop. Please go back and get her too. Kitties don’t love just anyone and they choose who they know will love them and take care of them. She saw something in you...please don’t let her sit in the shelter dreaming of what could have been a good and loving life. Go and get her too.
Cindy Pittman she was 17, he doesn’t want his heart broke again if she passes away soon. I understand. I had two rescued dogs, the first I got when he was 6, the second was 10 & they were both around the same age when I got the second. I knew having two senior dogs around the same age might be hard as they got older but I didn’t think I’d lose them 6 months apart. It was so sad, and in between my 16 year old cat died too.
We have a stray in my neighborhood that followed me around...turns out it follows everyone and if you pet it for more than 5 minutes straight it attacks. So I don’t know that following means they were “chosen”, it could follow everyone (dangerous in a shop where it could follow someone out the door to the street) and it might not be so sweet in the long run. They got the cat they wanted.
So true! My cat is 12 years old. She came to us when she was about 6 months old, literally ran into our house on a cold January night. We put her back out side and she came back the next day and was very persistent. We let her in and the rest is history. She chose us and has been with us ever since. 🩵

I'm so glad you rescued, Honey looks sweet. If you notice, the ones at the second place are calmer because of obvious difference in atmosphere. That long hair black and white cat had a great friendly personality and she did so good trying to convince you to take her, looks like she picked you, makes me very sad you didn't get her. Don't worry everyone that cat that was following him around at the second place will find a wonderful home too. You can tell she has a great personality and will find the right person for herself. Maybe she needs a little time to regain her health first. I think he made a good choice. Get ready to be loved by many Honey.

You remind me of me Pete. When my last 2 dogs passed some years back I said " never again". Within 3 months I had 2 more. We're pet lovers, we can't help it.

I am crying way harder than I should for that sweetheart in the second shelter. Someone commented that she is 17 and my heart is breaking for her. I hope to God that she’s gotten a home.
Now I’m even sadder.. she’s almost 19 now and still hasn’t been adopted. I’m in Canada and would 100% go and get her if I could cross the border. At least I have the information now for where she is, if this corona ever fucking ends I will literally drive and get her if they think she can handle the trip back. It’s a way shorter flight but I would do the drive for her. She is so so so sweet.

I have 5 cats. And if God wills it I will have more. If they show up. I am a little bit out in the country so I also feed a few feral ones outside. One thing I can say for sure is. You can NEVER EVER have too many. As long as you can afford to care for them vet bills etc. Get 2 or 3 for your shop, as long as customers don't complain and they have the persona to deal with folks. This is the reason I never go to shelters, I don't even go to petco where they have all the pets on a cage. It hurts me
Also sorry, I couldn't watch whole video. As a former Cop I have dealt with the worst of the human condition and never batted a eye. But a distressed cat will break me down every time.
3 years ago, my son and I adopted a beautiful 1-year old cat in Virginia. Her name is...Honey. And she's the sweetest kitty you could ever hope to know.

I have 5 cats. And if God wills it I will have more. If they show up. I am a little bit out in the country so I also feed a few feral ones outside. One thing I can say for sure is. You can NEVER EVER have too many. As long as you can afford to care for them vet bills etc. Get 2 or 3 for your shop, as long as customers don't complain and they have the persona to deal with folks. This is the reason I never go to shelters, I don't even go to petco where they have all the pets on a cage. It hurts me
Also sorry, I couldn't watch whole video. As a former Cop I have dealt with the worst of the human condition and never batted a eye. But a distressed cat will break me down every time.

3 years ago, my son and I adopted a beautiful 1-year old cat in Virginia. Her name is...Honey. And she's the sweetest kitty you could ever hope to know.

I have to admit I was distracted by the barking dogs for obvious reasons. I'll be visiting the shelter someday soon. I'm glad you are happy with Honey although I did think you were going to tell us you went back for the long hair. Cheers!
