      Its most frustrating to realize that someone can hear a horrifying death scream and not call authorities. It seems to happen a lot in these cold cases. I hope that most people these days will choose to report a person screaming for their lives instead of ignoring it.

    • @Littleone124
      @Littleone124 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @Lindy Brown I agree Lindy! I think (and hope) that people today would be more likely to contact police vs years ago when people "minded their own business." About 13 years ago I overheard a domestic dispute at my neighbors in the middle of the night. The man was beating her and trying to pull her inside while she screamed for someone to help her. Around that same time we had a young mother in our city viciously murdered by her ex, so that was fresh in my mind. I called police and they seemed annoyed by the call and didn't show up for over an hour. I never regretted my decision to call. I couldn't imagine living with myself if I could have prevented someone's death.

      The problem is when you have neighbors who make a shit ton of noise on a regular basis, hearing them scream doesn't register as unusual enough to call the cops, and there's the fear that if they're just screaming because they're having a party or something, if you DO call the cops then your neighbors will retaliate against you for being a "karen" because you prefer not to hear screaming all the time.

I specifically was calling out for my neighbors by name, and they did nothing until the next day when they complained to the landlord. They definitely were "Karens" as both of them constantly complained about the slightest noises (I lived above them in the attic of the house, and this was the first and only panic attack I'd ever had while living there) and it's so unsettling that they would rather have been pissed at me for making noise rather than sending help, even when I called their names.

    It’s better to call the police and be wrong, than to not call and find out that someone did need help urgently.
    I was once the person screaming, and at the court case, there were 6 people that had heard me screaming but then had done nothing.
    Only one of these witnesses was apologetic and upset about not calling for help. Some of the other people gave their evidence in a way like they were freaking heroes or something. I actually screamed over a period of several hours and every single one of those people thought that someone else would have called.
    Please please call.

      The above replies make good points. Also, often enough, when people report on domestic disputes, the victim ends up siding with her abuser, and violent revenge gets taken on the person who was naive enough to try reporting it. Not worth it for people who will despise you and turn on your for trying to 'help' them.

      @nancyholcombe8030 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Secretsquirrel I'm sorry for the way people have reacted to your post. I've never seen such insensitivity in all of my life! I understand what you're trying to say here and agree with it. I have a 60 year old friend who has never recovered from the attack she received at 8 years old and her attacker was let go because no one would admit to hearing her screams! She learned much later, as an adult, how many actually heard her and she was normally a quiet child . There are so many cases all over the world that read just like yours! I'm going to augment it just a bit for those who need to understand your message as I do. I'm glad you survived to take it to trial and are still here with us today!
      We all hear our neighbor's kids scream, our neighbor's shouting matches and see strangers on the street all of the time. We know these sounds and sights well. But there is a very different sound to a scream of terror. It will be a scream you have never heard until now. Maybe a scream you've never heard from a person who doesn't normally scream. Screams of terror and final death screams are very different from the sounds of children playing or adults arguing. If you hear strange or unusual screams, do not hesitate to call the law! It's always better to be wrong than to regret what you didn't do and now YOU have to live with the knowledge that a phone call could have saved them! I guarantee that the person you may save or avenge will be forever grateful that you made that call, as will their families. If it doesn't sound right, MAKE THAT CALL! MAKE THAT CALL NOW! Some day, it might be you! Wouldn't you want somebody to call the police?

    Wow!😮 I'm seeing so many people saying that they wouldn't know when to call or thinking that they make a mistake in worrying about their neighbor's safety!
    My neighborhood has many, many kids and adults who scream or shout on a regular basis. I listen to them all intently! Why? Maybe because my best friend was sexually assaulted when she was a child and no one reacted to her screams! But the biggest reason is because, when I was young, I drove an ambulance and picked up the victims of violence all night long. Some were alive but most weren't. I was always told by the police that the sounds of true terror were different from the screams of playing children or angry adults. So, I listen. One time, I hear very different screams from a child, three very, very different sounds that were not normal! I called the police. They didn't get there in time to save the child, but they found the culprit very quickly because of my actions! I wish I could have saved the girl but the screams were different because it was already too late to save her. At least her attacker is now behind bars for life! The timely arrival of the police gave the witnesses confidence against her assailant. Don't ever be afraid to listen! Call the police if it doesn't sound 'right'! I couldn't save the poor child's life but maybe you'll save the person you hear! Isn't protecting each other what it's all about?

    i do love this channel, for several reasons, but can only listen, because the constant use of unrelated random images is extremely distracting. Still shots are much preferred, for me, and allows more attention to the info. Only a few true crime channels understand this. Two are *That Chapter*, snd *heavy casefiles*.
    That Chapter is incredible in its use of actual footage (if it is still called that), recordings etc.
    heavycasefiles uses extended still images, and accomplishes the same effect, allowing the viewer the absorb the info.

    So I didn't hear anything in regards to questioning Susan's husband after their divorce... maybe it was contentious and he harbored ill-feelings?!?
    Anyhow, I love the sound when you take deep breaths... don't worry, I'm normal. 😋
    EDIT: Well, if the same thing happened to Erin, I doubt the killer would be Susan's ex-husband, unless he got a taste for murder after his first killing.
    SECOND EDIT: I am shocked they finally caught the guy!! Hope he ends up spending the rest of his life behind bars!!! Also I figured it must have been a young man if he did all that to Erin within the span of 20 minutes (quick ejaculator).
    So thanks for the story and have a good one!
