    Cheers mate! God, it looks awful. So sad to see what has become of the market, I remember going there in the 80s with my parents; proper old school market with great fruit 'n' veg stalls, cheese stalls, butchers and all that. But I think it was on its last legs in the 90s. No way they're gonna be able to bring new business into a town like that.
    Longton has always been a bit rough, with a fair few dodgy people about, but the town just looks like it's filled with pensioners now.

    When you build a community or group of communities around one industry like mining, steel making, ship building or, as in the case of The Potteries, ceramics and then allow that industry to die this is what happens. I live in a former mining area and remember the days when coal was king. It was a completely different place. Now the only growth industry in my area is drug dealing. Don’t blame the people of Stoke and Longton. When you take away a community’s heart you destroy it.

    • @DJMtv1938
      @DJMtv1938  ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly not blaming the people however…..pride in lots of people and there area has gone a area does not become bad it’s the people that move In it that make it so. And I’m afraid we now have not just in stoke but all over the country a society of people who take no pride in there area why should they clean the windows or polish the step or paint the house or maintain the garden it’s a house they are never going own just rent and so it goes on and on

    Thanks for this video. I don't know about a town that's dying; it looks as though it's died. I don't live in Stoke now but I come back for the football and it heart-breaking to see what's happened to Longton. In the 1950's my dad was manager of the Co-op butchers shop and the place was really buzzing. The facade to the market in the Strand has some really interesting details but like everything else it looks as though it's dropping to bits.Is there a way back-I don't think so. Incidentally, I don't agree with BlueDemon who says Longton has always been rough.

    Virtually all the local industries that made SOT a grimy but thriving area have gone.
    The pots, the pits, the Michelin factory, Shelton bar iron and steelworks, all dolid local employers, now its warehousing,call centres and Bet 365 HQ, the rot set in about 1980, been downhill ever since.

    You describe it as a shithole,which maybe it is but wouldnt it be a more positive thing to promote the town instead of running it down. You fail to show Longton park or Gladstone pottery museum or a single positive aspect of the town or surrounding area.
