The Rhythm game community had always been this elitist and 'gatekeeping' since I played Osu! back in 2016. Osu! was never seriously treated as a rhythm game by other people in the community.

You are comparing two very different types of content. Short form (often braindead) content isn't usually the only form of content *most* of these creators put out. Ofcourse short form content is going to be lower effort and probably more cringe, but many of the creators you mentioned also stream and/or make long form videos. These cc's often do make quality content but are also making shorts to keep up with the entirety of the direction content creation has gone in the past couple years. Besides, if people believe that short form content is braindead, then why can't they watch long form content instead? This has absolutely nothing to do with osu, and complaining about it from the perspective of an osu player or the osu community doesn't really make any sense at all. There is no comparison between "osu streamers" and "osu short creators". This is nothing more than content farming, and the content could be literally anything - indeed, that's exactly what it is, literally anything except with some osu gameplay over the top of it. Mark my words, there'll come a time where the people making this don't even bother to play the map, they'll just use a bot to do it or they'll simulate gameplay in video editing software. The osu part is just an excuse to redistribute content they didn't make, something they can point at as fair use if anyone ever bothers making a copyright claim, and it's worth looking at how people consume this kind of content. It's really not a problem of osu creators, it's a whole content sludge industry, where any given clip will be viewed for only a couple of seconds on average as the user scrolls through their feed.

There's something you didn't mention in the video. Some of the people watching these shorts don't even know what osu is, which is a big problem. So the argument of making shorts to attract more players to the community immediately goes out the window. for anyone up for a little tinkering, you can hide shorts using revanced (on android) or uyou+ (on ios). i hid them and thought it made a pretty positive change
osu! shorts is like the last resort for an osu! content creator to get popular/get views or money. long form osu! content with high effort rarely attracts the mainstream people outside of the community, even then those contents are prone to demonetization due to music copyright (unless muting or changing music pitch until you can't hear shit). imo there's still many types of long form content that can be beneficial for the community, like giving the community something good because you like the game and not because of money.

Tbh, the only way I knew about Osu! Was from my brother when he found out about the game, but then kept rage playing when things were not going his way because of his old set up that he had at the time. A lot of the stuff I saw on Osu! Was remanicant of beat saber, albeit, with some differences here and there, but the objective is still the same. To me, neither one of the games are that interesting, but I knew right away that the way the games were set up were made in a way where this stuff was eventually going to happen, and I just stayed away from it. I commend the fact that you’re going out of your way to change a community for the better, and condemning those who make the community worse, however, it’s not to say that I’ve seen this exact same thing happen time and time again, and then people just end up feeling a sense of hopelessness to something that is not easy to change. Best advice I can give: Change the community, one step at a time, and ignore whatever people say in the background whenever you get negative criticism. These people don’t represent the community, or any community for that matter, they’re only just spreading what they think is appropriate for them to share out there, only to get angry and cry whenever they’re told like “Yeah no, This shit is not okay, don’t post it.”. You are comparing two very different types of content. Short form (often braindead) content isn't usually the only form of content *most* of these creators put out. Ofcourse short form content is going to be lower effort and probably more cringe, but many of the creators you mentioned also stream and/or make long form videos. These cc's often do make quality content but are also making shorts to keep up with the entirety of the direction content creation has gone in the past couple years. Besides, if people believe that short form content is braindead, then why can't they watch long form content instead? In the end, being an average new viewer outside of the osu community and having the attention span of an ant, i kind of got lost in all this drama between these content creators i've never even heard of. What was the point of the video in the first place? What's the problem with nsfw? Is it like cuz everyone does it and then it's all the same? Forgive me, but i sort of don't know what to make out of this.
Also, i see you really like the community, and that's heartwarming to see, but sadly, seeing how your original ideas get no recognition, i don't know if i'd advise you to keep going, for your own good. If you feel like you're wasting time, then stop lying to yourself lol, you deserve better. If you're doing it for yourself because you genuinely like it and don't care about the money, but only in that case, continue and i'll be glad to see what you bring, but in that case don't be surprised if they don't do good in terms of numbers since, well, you yourself have stated the reason why that happens :)

I'm a osu mania player but these shorts/tiktoks are just free content farm for osu players.
This has absolutely nothing to do with osu, and complaining about it from the perspective of an osu player or the osu community doesn't really make any sense at all. There is no comparison between "osu streamers" and "osu short creators". This is nothing more than content farming, and the content could be literally anything - indeed, that's exactly what it is, literally anything except with some osu gameplay over the top of it. Mark my words, there'll come a time where the people making this don't even bother to play the map, they'll just use a bot to do it or they'll simulate gameplay in video editing software. The osu part is just an excuse to redistribute content they didn't make, something they can point at as fair use if anyone ever bothers making a copyright claim, and it's worth looking at how people consume this kind of content. It's really not a problem of osu creators, it's a whole content sludge industry, where any given clip will be viewed for only a couple of seconds on average as the user scrolls through their feed.

There's something you didn't mention in the video. Some of the people watching these shorts don't even know what osu is, which is a big problem. So the argument of making shorts to attract more players to the community immediately goes out the window. I also agree that strawbewwii misconstrued a lot of the stuff said in the video, but what pissed me off the most is that he flexed his revenue to prove a point. And why are those people chastising a 15 year old in the first place, literally do not respond if you end up being offended. There are also a LOT of underrated osu content creators, and the shorts overshadowing what they do doesn't help either.

osu! shorts is like the last resort for an osu! content creator to get popular/get views or money. long form osu! content with high effort rarely attracts the mainstream people outside of the community, even then those contents are prone to demonetization due to music copyright (unless muting or changing music pitch until you can't hear shit).
imo there's still many types of long form content that can be beneficial for the community, like giving the community something good because you like the game and not because of money.

"im pretty sure i was the first one to post rabbit hole as a short when everyone else followed suite, it was by complete accident because i was planning to do one with just the original MV and then i saw caststation posted the animation a few days before and so i had to post the thing the next day mainly because i genuinely think the animation is cool (check his other 2 miku animations), next thing i know it blows up and i also benefitted from it by pure accident which i'm not 100% happy about considering how others are posting that same animation 3-4 times in average to min-max views.
i'm not trying to have a moral high ground because bag is bag, but its pretty demoralizing to me that the way osu! is being shown to people is through these trendy slop content, from rabbit hole, verbalase $50k, family guy snippets(?), etc. when there's 17 years of beatmap content out there that do have videos/storyboarding both ranked and unranked, i guess its the "method to grow faster" but i'll never understand why it has to be the only one.

osu content is so much worse now. i remember the 2016-17 or the golden era when people put effort into the content. but now due to tiktok and yt shorts, its had a noticeable decline even from 2020. i miss that era of osu but we're currently in a deadlock, where more passionate vids get drowned out over short-form slop content.

Tbh, the only way I knew about Osu! Was from my brother when he found out about the game, but then kept rage playing when things were not going his way because of his old set up that he had at the time. A lot of the stuff I saw on Osu! Was remanicant of beat saber, albeit, with some differences here and there, but the objective is still the same. To me, neither one of the games are that interesting, but I knew right away that the way the games were set up were made in a way where this stuff was eventually going to happen, and I just stayed away from it.
I commend the fact that you’re going out of your way to change a community for the better, and condemning those who make the community worse, however, it’s not to say that I’ve seen this exact same thing happen time and time again, and then people just end up feeling a sense of hopelessness to something that is not easy to change. Best advice I can give: Change the community, one step at a time, and ignore whatever people say in the background whenever you get negative criticism. These people don’t represent the community, or any community for that matter, they’re only just spreading what they think is appropriate for them to share out there, only to get angry and cry whenever they’re told like “Yeah no, This shit is not okay, don’t post it.”.
