I feel like Loui has a very sporting attitude and a good sense of humor that'll make this more bearable for ppl to watch alongside lol. His laugh makes me laugh lol. Aside from the kidnapping prank, AHL is not that bad to me, just some cringe parts here and there that one just has to laugh through, but the show gets better as the episodes go on. Certainly nothing to cry over about, I don't feel it's as horrible as some people say. Yes, they were very overworked so it was tough for them. But overall it's a very unique show and was a valuable experience for BTS. At least it shows that BTS sincerely went to learn more deeply about hiphop, instead of just using hiphop superficially for the aesthetic without any real knowledge or respect for it, like most kpop groups do. So I think the show is important for that, it sets BTS apart from other groups. And we got the great album Dark and Wild out of their time there.

One thing to keep in mind when watching AHL is that it was a co-production with MNET (one of S. Korea's biggest broadcasters/media companies).
Big Hit was basically still broke at that point, so the financing & publicity from doing a tv show with a giant company like MNET was a huge deal for BTS at the time. Unfortunately, that came with a lot of typical reality TV nonsense. I remember reading that Bang PD stepped in to insist on some changes after the initial filming, which is why one of the three mentors disappears.
They were literally working around the clock on filming the show & recording the album, "Dark & Wild," all while far away from home in a totally foreign culture, under enormous pressure to succeed & keep Big Hit afloat. These are seven incredible humans.
P.S. Coolio didn't actually invent the phrase, "Shaka Zulu." Shaka was King of the Zulu nation (in southern Africa), in the 1800's. He was responsible for organizing their military into a fighting force capable of not only dominating their neighbours, but also standing up against European colonizers. He was a controversial ruler when he was alive, but remembered as an African hero, so his name became a sort of rallying cry for Black Power/resistance movements in the 1960s & 70s.

Yoongi did notice the camera that’s why he looked so done during the entire prank because he was pissed off and they were all pretty mad and upset that they would do that to them that after it happened namjoon had a talk with the company and told them that nothing like that can happen ever again and I get why because first off they were all very young here and it was their first time in America and imagine being “kidnapped” in a foreign country that you don’t speak the language and don’t know anything really about that country and jungkook was like 16 or 17 here I’m pretty sure. I like this show because I love seeing where they came from and bts are funny asf but god damn the whole kidnapping prank went too far and it makes me so upset fr

Idk why people makes such a big deal of this show being cringe and horrible. There is a lot of good things and people in this show that treat them good and I think it's definitely a good opportunity for them to learn a lot of things and they are funny af.

It's the ones who never watched them saying this like yeah corny shit aside they did so many great things too (minus the kidnapping) and they even did this show with barely any rest and sleep (can they atleast acknowledge and appreciate that) like this also goes with saying earlier run bts episodes are cringe??? This was never a thing back then. Is it a newer ARMY thing? Idk

I watched the whole thing and for me it was a painful watch... The situations they set up, the weird challenges and scrips, their attempts to make them more "macho/playboy" 😭 To be fair, I'm really not a fan of reality shows and I only watched this one because I wanted to see the members... I liked the parts with the dance teacher and the lady with the piano though, that was nice.

I'm tired of shouting out to reactors to not read those comments. Mostly come from preconceived notions, compilation videos that don't help at all, and most of all those people haven't seen EVER the whole series.
I love AHL for what it is. Their challenges and all. It's just a reality show with a different set up, and the only thing that needed disappearance, got disappeared XD (yeah, the kidnap bit was silly but oh well...)

I appreciate the show for what it is but it’s definitely a hard watch, for me at least, it felt super scripted at times when the tutors were talking and felt really awkward and uncomfortable sometimes, there are really good moments but for me it’s definitely not something I’d recommend to any new army.

Even though lots of it is cringey, I still think there were genuinely good things that the guys learned in this series. Growing up watching kpop idols who just loved to emulate the american or hiphop styles for superficial aesthetics was so weird so it's nice to see someone actually get a tiny of bit of hands-on experience of a world they didn't grow up in.

27:17 that’s Manager Sejin! He was with them for a long time, but a few years ago he got promoted to being the Manager of the managers (so you don’t see him in as much content anymore lol). He’s super easy to distinguish bc of the glasses & bc of how tall he is
Parts of the show can be cringe & the first 2 episodes are def the worst (for me at least), but they learn a lot of good lessons and get to experience new things and meet some good ppl so I think it’s an important milestone for them.
Also this was taking place at the same time as their recording for the Dark & Wild full album, to give some reference

They really were in the nooks and crannies of America. It was also one of the hardest times of their career... the latest suchwita and their memoire talks about that. But the whole thing was a changing experience for them.
The last parts of this show is really really enjoyable.... sitting through through first episodes without skipping is the only hard part.

honestly I have a hate-love relationship with this show. some parts, especially in the beginning were just painful to watch but otherwise the whole premise and idea of it was very important for bts as musicians and artists who started off as a hip hop group. and yess the show gets much better and wholesome later on, especially for tae 😭 since he was clowning around in the beginning and everyone treated him in an unserious way, but as the show goes on,especially the scenes with iris, he really showed a different side of himself

AHL has some cringy moments, but I enjoyed it on the whole. Dante with Jin and Suga in this episode pissed me off though. When Dante hit Jin that was just the straw that broke the camel's back. He was disrespectful, disinterested and rude the whole time they were together. Suga was definitely annoyed and it was good that Jin asked them to stop filming for a few minutes. Glad we never saw Dante again on this show. But the show gets better and better from here.

BTS learned so many lessons from AHL & it can be seen in their work today. They worked on the Dark & Wild album while filming this & it's so underrated. It's an album that you can listen from beginning to end or in reverse and it's still a dope album.

  • @Garnishes
    @Garnishes ปีที่แล้ว +6

Okay AHL is really really immersive and entertaining. BUT... everytime I watch the kidnapping scene my heart keeps dropping and I get genuinely so upset for them because at least a few of the members (especially the younger ones) would've been so scared and they were so young in a foreign country without knowing how the speak the language fluently 😓. And also 15:04 it's either jungkook was trying to stop himself from smiling or from crying (him biting in his lips n looking so tense), and i'm pretty sure it's to stop himself from crying (u know when u were frozen scared and then realised it was a prank? tears of relief would usually well up n it seems he was trying to keep it in). i know he tried to be lighthearted by saying "if i cried would they find me pitiful and let me go?' but still😞
Idk... look if they weren't actually that scared during that scene I would've felt better but... even if there were cameras in the car, there must've been a moment where they genuinely thought something bad happened, no?? Idk... I still get pretty shaken from the whole kidnapping thing. ok rant over.
the rest of the show was so much better and really had memorable moments, plus the other kind people they met -- i loved those parts. And the challenges were super fun! There were so many funny moments!

There r few moments of AHL that still pains me to watch. Dante"s behavior with Jin n Suga. Hw can u dare to hit Jin?? Kidnapping was a little too much n there r few moments where they struggled bcoz of language problems. But overall this taught them something that could not be taught back in Korea. As Jin sums it up at the end of the series.it made them open up n give a upgraded mindset

so glad people feel the same about the kidnap scene. i legit almost cried when i first watched it. i know some speculate that yoongi saw the hidden camera in the hostage room at least. i think jin, yoongi, n RM were still relatively ok. but u can see just how shaken and terrified jungkook and hobi were, especially in their confessionals afterward. At 15:04 it looks as if jungkook was trying to stop himself from crying (likely due to the rush of emotions pouring out after realizing it was a prank because before that he was literally frozen scared). whoever wrote that scene thought it would be 'fun, immersive' experience in their head but probably has NEVER experienced a real kidnapping and NEVER imagined how one might feel being that young and not knowing how to speak the language to call for help while being held hostage in a foreign country. it's just not the 'immersion' they imagined it to be. it's a lack of empathy and one of the cruelest pranks. whoever thought of and approved of that idea should feel ashamed. obviously i know this happened long ago and it's prolly just a distant memory to them now but i just feel so terrible for how they felt in that moment.

I watched this show as it was coming out and then again a few years after that but I haven't watched it since so it's nice to watch it again with you! Obviously, there's definitely some cringe parts in this but like,,, what reality show isn't at least a little cringe, ya know? BTS learned so much while they did this show, they made connections, they got to meet & learn from some real legends and it really solidified their love & desire of music imo. Its such an important show in the Bangtan Lore so I'm really glad to see you watching it!! Your reaction seriously made it so much more enjoyable too!! Thanks for all the content & for spoiling us with such long vids!!

Poor V went through so much shit in this, it's kinda sad. Good for him that he didn't mind though because he's been mad funny. Just let the kid have fun, there was no need to be so mean. At least Coolio tried to cheer him up a bit afterward every time.
Also, that prank was just unnecessary af. Most of them were downright terrified. Jungkook and Hobi were obviously uncomfortable, but Tae looked ready to piss himself. Jin and Jimin looked worried as well, and Jin even got scared the next morning, trying to shield himself with his blanket. RM dealt with the situation very well, trying to diffuse the tension and playing the interpreter to avoid trouble. Suga was definitely not the guy to mess with, he looked so annoyed.
That whole thing with Dante was so frustrating as well. Jimin, Jungkook, and Hobi had so much fun with Tony. RM and V also had a great day. And Suga and Jin spent their day being disrespected by a man-child. Great thing that they got rid of him because Jin was too polite to do anything and Suga was too outraged to even comply with his shit.
Tony was the best though. He really tried to get invested in their culture and vice-versa. The fact that he gave Jimin a nickname was adorable!

Haha i love that u just reacted to JK's Seven MV and the Summer Mix in between! A great breather between the AHL episodes! 😁😆 kinda feels nostalgic like some of ur earlier bts videos 😄 Also, the people that did those official Visualizer videos are soooo good!!!!! They just released 4 more mixes! I really like the Island Mix the best out of all the mixes! The Band version is dope too!

I was new ARMY right before this show came out. I think this was one of the better reality shows, besides their own, that they have been on. I honestly think this show really showed them how to be humble and hone their talents.
How you going to go from baby AHL BTS and jump into Grown I’ll be loving you right JK😭😭

I like AHL. Yes there was some cringe moments but overall it educated bts on hip hop and the culture of hip hop. Most idol groups never educate themselves on that and dont appreciate it as much as bts does.

  • @bbvistas7596
    @bbvistas7596 ปีที่แล้ว +1

27:15 "Who is sitting in between them?" The legend of legendary managers, Sejin. ARMY approved. He is the most trusted and closest to the BTS members. He is also the most well-known to BTSARMY until they went public. His position switched to head of managers or something. He was in charge of training all the managers for HYBE. Managing the managers. You can search him. He was more visible than BTS head of security is now.

@ 27:15 The guy sitting between Jin and Taehyung on the plane is Sejin manager. He was with BTS since pre-debut until a few years ago when he was switched to another group. He's probably ARMYs favorite manager lol. We accidentally got him trending on twitter a few times lol. Also Tony and Nate are sometimes on twitter and interact with ARMYs.

The kidnapping prank was un suuuch bad taste snd incredibly racist to boot. Aside from that red flag and some cringe moments it’s got some great moments amd they learned a lot from the experience. The first episode is rough but it only gets better.
