Funny seeing how gyarados dominates this, despite the fact that gen 2 gyarados was the worst iteration of gyarados. Bad special attack and no intimidate yet it’s still OP
Eh "worst iteration" is debatable. This is a gyara in a generation with stat exp not evs so it gets massive buffs due to every stat being good already. Stat exp works better for bulkier mons and mixed attackers which gyara is both. Also youre able to guarantee a good iv guara at lake of rage. Ivs go to 15 and a shiny is guaranteed to have 10 in 3 stats. I think gyara is an s tier encounter every game and its more broken in the early gens due to stats, movepool, and typing. You say it has a low special but its good when paired with the fact that most things it wants to hit with special moves have a low special defense/are 4x weak to said moves, and it has a really good attack stat too

Just finished a run like this a few months ago! Ended the run with Crobat, Togetic, Dragonite, and….the Red Gyrados 😅 my Pidgeot fainted during my battle with Blue
Finally someone doing the Lake of Rage and Mahogany’s rocket plot before Chuck! Makes so much more sense, considering you gotta grind anyway and the rocket’s levels are quite low
Not surprised at all this goes well. Gen 2 is like, the land of flying types. You've even got Natu, Mantine, Gligar and Skarm. I *am* surprised I haven't seen anyone do it either, but I'd be surprised if SilphSpecter hasn't. That guy does freaking everything.
During your Rival fight in Burned Tower you mentioned trying Sweet Kiss to put Magnemite to sleep. Sweet Kiss is a CONFUSION move. LOVELY Kiss is the one that causes sleep.
Great memories with this game and first time I ever saw a togetic (which became my favourite Pokémon :3) I remember being amazed at how strong togetic was too 😆 love your vids. Can’t wait for more 😁
I liked the video but I have a few things im gonna nitpick at. 1)You should have saved the spearow encounter for when you get it later in the run as a gift pokemon. 2)If you set the time for the morning 1130am-12pm to begin with you still would have gotten all of your encounters. 3) The pigeotto Falkner has isnt illegal since you can get a lvl 7 in Virdian forest in first gen. 4) You also would have had 3-4 berries as well so their was no need for the time dilation thingy you did. You get one on the starter pokemon, one from the tree, another from another tree, and one from the guy in the house. 5) I dont know why you skipped Butterfree it has a great movepool for gen 2 that makes it a literal wall if you set it up enough. Toxic, Sunny Day, Solar Beam, and either Psychic or Giga Drain.
We were actually gonna have a small video about it over on Beastcoast Pokemon, but it hasn't been released yet, hence why I have the thumbnail in this vid and that uh, hasn't been used yet lol. It's fun though, I've never played with the card myself since I was a literal newborn when it was in standard, hoping that I get to have some good games with it in History of PTCG.
Let me point out that it’s sooo stupid that gligar being a ground type can’t learn earthquake in gen 2 it doesn’t make sense, also gyarados and dragonite for whatever reason can’t learn earthquake either but aerodactyl can, also Crobat not being able to learn sludge bomb in gen 2 either, game freak really messed up here
When he said butterfree outlived it’s usefulness I cried, I solo’d the game with nothing but butterfree, my starter Typhlosion, and my Vaporeon for water moves. And my psybeam spammer got me through Bruno and Koga in a sweep
Agreed. I've taken Butterfree and Beedrill to Elite Four battles. The whole "early game usefulness and nothing more" trope regarding Butterfree is subjective at best
I think it’s down to how you use it, if you do it right your golden, do it wrong then yeah it’ll be bad after early game, because it has a trainer bad a using butterfree which is fair but they should really use it in higher level battles to see how good it is
@gabrieldevoogel6225 True. I would say that using these kind of pokemon requires alot of extra strategy and moveset creativity. I currently have Crystal on my phone emulator, and I have an all-bug team that's about to face the Elite 4 lol
Had a very similar lineup going into the E4, but Natu learns Psychic at lvl 50, so I had it hold EXP Share going in at the edge of Lvl 48. He hit 50 after Bruno, definitely helped to get it like 15 levels earlier than Xatu! Nice run!
This just in: Settup Moves and overleveling is kind of overpowered lol. (Up to everyone how they want to play it, but my personal preference is setting the League Level Cap to the E4 Ace rather than the Champion) There's also some merit to restricting Set Up to a single use or two stages, but that is getting a little strict 😋
Yeah, my cap was the Elite Four ace, it's just that using Scyther and no EXP Share throughout the entire League made it gain like 6 levels throughout. Swords Dance literally OP.
There's probably enough encounters to get away with the "second team for Kanto" rules from the Ground run, but yeah the amended rules with the sole level cap for Kanto make far more sense. OT question: Did the Platinum POC get murked during the channel compromise issue?
You inspired a bed idea for me. "Fewest pokemon seen" basically resetting everytime I see a mon that's not owned by a mandatory trainer. (Imagine a salty gen 2 fan playing gen 3 but obstinately refusing to see more than they have to) I Beat all of ruby only seeing 72 mons(i was shocked that you didnt HAVE to see a wurmple). "Illegal Pidgeotto" how many times do we have to tell you this old man!?!? (jokes) Pidgeotto was achievable from Viridian Forest at lvl 9 in Pokemon Yellow. If we assume Falkner's father to be from the Kanto region it would make sense that he has a lvl 9 Pidgeotto to give to his son.
Hold on.. Is Crystal that easy??? When I was child and Crystal was my first Pokemon game, I remember well how hard it was beat Morty, Claire and full League. Of course I was starter Pokemon fan when I was little kid, but still ^^' (EDIT) Love to see how Scyther can win full League own itself :D

Actually I'm sure you can get Sludge Bomb's TM in the gate leading to Lake of Rage after getting Team Rocket out of the way.
Crobat's not compatible with Sludge Bomb in gen II.
Crobat is unfortunately unable to learn ANY Poison type move by level up or TM in Gen 2. Literally dumb bat lol
Nice run but setup moves make most of these runs very lackluster once you get acces to them, might be a good additional restriction to add

Should do a run where you can use only lvl up moves no use of tm/hm’s
Theres barely any pokemon that learn hms through lvl up and in the other games sm/usum, they get good movesets

try doing a run using the anime rule (you can only use the same amount of pokemon as the opponent)
"Illegal Pidgeotto" how many times do we have to tell you this old man!?!? (jokes) Pidgeotto was achievable from Viridian Forest at lvl 9 in Pokemon Yellow. If we assume Falkner's father to be from the Kanto region it would make sense that he has a lvl 9 Pidgeotto to give to his son.
Hold on.. Is Crystal that easy??? When I was child and Crystal was my first Pokemon game, I remember well how hard it was beat Morty, Claire and full League. Of course I was starter Pokemon fan when I was little kid, but still ^^'
