As a man I have bumps in the back my from letting africans braid my hair so tightly and i have razor bump from my last haircut six months ago should i cut my hair to start over or should i keep my hair but give braids a break til i can find something to heal these bumps
Actually i disagree. As a stylist who grew many clients from nape to waist. I must say that's not true. But i will say you must find a stylist who knows how to braid with proper tension. And be very vocal about when someone is braiding too hard. Remember she cannot feel your scalp. Protective styles are great if done right. But done right, is key! And she gave the best tips in this video😘 especially about giving scalp a break between braided styles.
I got my first set and let me tell you. I felt this is destructive. I felt it very aggressive, the process and the after math I felt my scalp is very damaged
Thank you for this video! Had braids in for the first time and noticed some bumps in my nape area around a couple braids. It got worse and since I have thin hair I got nervous and took them out. I think it was the right choice now after watching a video. Very informative! Thank you so much I will be careful with tension around the edges next time!!!
Very informative this video should be an example for others to follow it’s very important that stylist should inform their clients about the pro vs cons of tight hairstyles
I am about to take out my braids and I was considering doing another immediately so from what you’ve said, I’m definitely going to give it a few months. Thank you🥰
For me I didn’t even put my hair put my hair up or do any hair style I just have the braids down and it’s lil bumps on my hairline but in my hair their is pus and red bumps so thank for this video I will definitely try and find a dermatologist but dose any one have any recommendations of products that can help it go down please whether it’s oil or any thing that’s good for it
I’m a guy and I just got cornrows and whenever I do I always get braid bumps at the back of my head around the neck area, is there a way to relieve the pain after loosening the braids at the back?
Yep my stylist was my mother. I just recently braided my moms hair for her latch hook and I popped her with comb and braided her hair tight so she could see how I felt 😂
Inmn struggling right now Went back for second crochet install. But this time not then real bad at base of beak and one braid row above for some reason. Even have then in sporadic areas In head. Strange because it felt the same braid tension from before but not bad . Of course once I got home next day I can feel the tightness but within a day it’s gone. This time it’s been a week and the bumps and irritation getting worse . We also used wild growth which I could be allergic too…😢 I refuse to take this out so I’m treating and want to heal the best I can. And will stop using my rosemary and castor oil
When I protective style, I just get cornrows with my natural hair, no added hair. Should I still take a break? I only get one bump in the same corner of my nape. I love my cornrows.

We need to know that tight hairstyles are not protective they are destructive. Hair doesn’t grow by force
Preach!

Came here to see how I can ease the pain… sis said “ don’t do them too tight” 💀
😂😂😂😂😂

And for stylists to not do such tight hairstyles as well unless individually requested

You’re welcome sisterrrr!
If you keep your braids in how long does it take for the tension bumps to leave ? If you treat it
If treated, a couple weeks.

So the hair is pulled out from the follicle is what causes it to swell?
That is correct!
Edit: it might also be the weight of the braid what causes pulling, it depends of how much hair extensions where used
I know I had a lot of braid bumps as a child. The stylists never had mercy on my baby hair 😭
😭😭 they showed absolutely no mercy

What do you do to make the EXTREME itching go away? This itching is INSANEEE!!
Oh dear, then you may be allergic to the braid extensions. If that's the case, I suggest you take the braids out immediately.

I’m late but in the future Apple cider vinegar mixed with water will help!

Hi Naya, that’s okay. Just try to make that particular area a bit loose so it doesn’t put so much pressure on your hair follicle.
